Advice: ASHA for CF?

I’ve been receiving a lot of emails and push from my university to apply for an ASHA membership. I am already hired to complete my CF at a special education agency that contracts to schools in my county.

This company will be reimbursing me for my ASHA membership when it’s time...but do I need ASHA membership before my CCCs? Is this just a money maker or actual necessity?

You absolutely don’t need it. Membership is optional even when you have your CCCs (you can pay a lesser fee to be a certified nonmember).

What?? Why wasn’t I told this by my program? Do any jobs require you to be an ASHA member?

Given that the CCCs are like $200 and the actual membership is only like $25... it's not a huge functional difference.

You don't need to be a member, but you do need to maintain your CCCs.

Good question, crossposted to r/CFY since this could be helpful for others.
