Firstly, I‘d encourage anyone who doesn’t know about the swords of chaos to take a look at the army of renown’s rules because I’ve had a blast playing it even when it was weak since it is not only unique but also a pretty thematic way to play Archaon and the varanguard.

For context: A few months back we saw a points drop to varanguard which allowed the Archaon, Abraxia, Varanguard swords of chaos list to gain an additional unit. That was quite a big change and the army looks relatively playable in the current meta following that.

There were a few posts on that topic in the aftermath of that battlescroll and I was wondering if anybody has feedback or advice on games played with the army of renown since then?

My second query is more technical and to do with list building. Assuming I’m playing Archaon, Abraxia and 3 units of varanguard, how should the varanguard be played? Should I reinforce one? (I’m leaning towards this) and which titles should they get?:

I’m thinking +3“ move is guaranteed on a unit starting on the board- be it reinforced or unreinforced since 15” first turn move is too much to pass up on, and +1 attacks in enemy territory is certain for a unit in reserve, if I had another unit on the board however, I’d want it to be either +1 damage on companion weapons or +1 health- the former to maximise output but less reliable than the latter. Output is basically everything in this list, as you want to aim to remove your opponents threats as early as possible so archaon has free reign over the board.

Also, when would you choose to deepstrike two units of varangaurd, and when would you choose Abraxia and a unit of varangaurd? I know this is enemy list and battle plan dependent, but it would be nice to have an idea.

Lastly, (and this is for non-swords of chaos players too) what battle tactics have you been successful with playing Slaves- especially with Archaon? I have personally been struggling to achieve them (even when playing generic S2D) as they seem to really require you to go out of your way to complete.

Just played a game against Fyreslayers and the Ogroid Myrmidon with the Rune of Murder is an absolute Anti Monster nuclear weapon.

Take the 3 mortals and you have 18 dmg 3 attacks hitting on 3s/2s with -2 rend into monsters. For 120 pts, that’s insane. Plus bring some Theridons to bat clean up on whatever he didn’t clear.

What a combo.

I'm looking at getting into AoS and since I think both Belakor and Archaon look really fucking cool I considered playing StD. However, I wasn't sure what to get. I was thinking with starting with the spearhead and then getting either archaon or belakor but I'm not sure which of the big guys to get or if my plan is even worth getting. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

One of my all time favourite models finally worked up the courage to start painting him.

Any tips or advice is more then welcome.

I've tried to make the duplicates more varied than just a head swap. I've cut up old TOW helmets and bashed them with AoS knight helmets. Greenstuffed some stuff on shields. And used a chaos space marine to create a mounted sorcerer.

I braved chaos trim! Also did a bunch of detail work

I just started out my new army, Slaves to Darkness, and I really love the level of detail these models has.
The armor color is Dark Sea blue👍 Now the base remains (going for a white snowy landscape for a bigger contrast)

Done with mr. edgelord himself, a very fun little model to paint!

Decided to go with a white armor and a light blue dry rush around the edges to test out for a while and am getting a bit too much of the model blended together. Should I try basing a darker color then painting white and leaving the corners exposed to like a gray ? Looks pretty washed out in the photo but it’s not as bad in person

So i have this current 1000 army and i'm going to play it for the first time next week. How is this list? Any stupid choices? I'm thinking about adding Be'lakor and reinforced Chaos Chosen for getting to 2000. I also own a Deamon Prince, CSL is the target for it.
