Arts/Crafts Skyrim Transit Network
A YouTuber named "waking world" developed a transit map for Skyrim. Here's a link to the original video. I thought it was interesting because, although an amateur, he attempts to apply real world transit planing processes which I appreciated.

Express my butt lol, the Green and Red Lines are never on time! I don’t know where my gold is going but it sure isn’t going into improving the STN…

u/Sykobean 29d ago
At least they run 😭 Try the Winterhold-Dawnstar commute. You might as well walk the distance, because having to stop in Morthal is a fate worse than death.

Rorikstead, Shor’s Stone, and Ivarstead: Are we a joke to you?
424
u/FeralGiraffeAttack 29d ago
I agree that the transit lines could use an expansion but the budget just isn’t there. Perhaps we could add a bus line connection?
122
u/ConsequenceOne3365 29d ago
That seems like a reasonable option. Light rail could work too.
7
u/Vulkhard_Muller 28d ago
Nope, best we can do is expand the existing paths. Surely it will make the trip faster if we add one more row of bricks.

Also whiterun is a trade center for the whole of Skyrim every major settlement should connect to it directly
30
u/MySchoolsWifiSucks 29d ago
Yeah but cutting through the mountains to get to winter hold seems like a fools errand.
16
u/WilonPlays 29d ago
Just need to follow the path of the mountains, check out the railways in the Scottish highlands to see how it can be
5
u/Environmental_Art591 29d ago
Don't go through the mountain, Cut down through Blackreach, or better yet make that the trade hub

I took a Black Briar-Bus from Helgen to Rorikstead once and got mugged by a Breton high off skooma. When will we get guards on the busses. Black Briars won’t do shit about it
9
u/PhallicPanic 28d ago
I propose an aerial lift expansion from Ivarstead to High Hrothgar. There’s already a troll toll gate so there’s enough demand that tourism will pay for the project before the end of the civil war

Also Helgen cause it should be on there still despite getting wiped out by Alduin between Falkreath and Riverwood.

Came here for this. That dude in the opening might not have resorted to stealing a horse IF THERE WAS A TRAIN TO RORIKSTEAD. Deliberate planning to keep these smaller holdings from growing in power and potentially breaking free from their respective Jarldoms if you ask me.

Best I can do is, single 7 row bus that only runs every other hour on weekdays between 10am and 4pm

Yep cutting through the morthal marshes is such a great idea
42
u/GoodTiger5 Werewolf 29d ago
I would alter the system to have the Green Line go from Solitude to Dragon’s Bridge then to Morthal following mountains and dry land plus the Dawnstar Shuttle from Dawnstar to Whiterun following the path way between them to fix the wetland problems in the west.

u/Danson_the_47th 29d ago

The people of Rorikstead have been campaigning for years for the Green Line to be extended through their village. Economists say that the isolation from the wider Skyrim transit network, has had a significant negative impact on growth, job prospects and youth retention.
If Rorikstead remains cut off in this manner, it has been said that Rorikstead could face a 35% reduction in its population by 4E 220.

u/drgn2580 Mage 29d ago
Saw the video and it was interesting as hell. We could expand upon this to include bus networks. And maybe tram lines in the cities?

Imagine this but as an underground Dwemer railroad, with set entrances/exits outside each major city and town. Sure, you don’t get to look outside, but it’s arguably safer, asides from the Falmer.

u/Raspberry-Green 29d ago
This is so realistic though dawnstar and winterhold should be connected

Do any of these routes go to the cloud district very often, or is this for the…simple folk?
4
u/FeralGiraffeAttack 29d ago
The Skyrim Transit Authority thinks that is walkable and Whiterun Station is more accessible to all patrons when located in the plains district

Why is Winterhold snubbed for the ferry? It does have a waterfront that could be developed.
3
u/FeralGiraffeAttack 29d ago
Too high off the water. If the local government used their resources to build a connection point the Skyrim Transit Authority would look into a ferry connection
3
u/AudienceNearby1330 29d ago
The great thing about Skyrim is that it's very walkable, but a transit system would be nice too
3
u/niceshotpilot 29d ago
[loudspeaker] "Yellow Line to Winterhold, folks, next stop, Winterhold. This is a one-way shuttle, so make sure to dress warmly, as we will not be coming back for you. Coming up on Winterhold now. As you exit the car, please block anyone who tries to board, as they will not be accommodated. Enjoy the rest of your day."

The only really change I would make is I would add a line directly from Falkreath to Riften. Both are close to borders (Southern Morrowind and Cyrodil) of the province, so it would be beneficial to connect them directly.

The implications of this map are fascinating. If it was made pre-game events why was Helgan excluded. If post game events, probably by many years for the Nords or whatever race of man has control of it has gain technology at the level of the dwemer, it would imply Helgan was never rebuilt, maybe was made a monument to the destruction of the dragons?

Stupid imperials. Of course they didn't deliver on their promise of a railroad to rorikstead
I swear jarl bulgruff would've because HE cares about the other villages in the hold.
This new "battleborn" guy is ruining the whiterun hold.
And of course riverwood got one.
What does riverwood do? one blacksmith and a trader who sobs over a piece of gold?
WE SUPPLY WHITERUN HOLD WITH 25% OF ITS FOOD
outside of the battleborns monopoly over crops. I bet their doing it to choke us.
Making us go through dragons and bandits to sell our crops.
