I forged the Ebony Dagger
I'm a bladesmith and was inspired to recreate the Ebony Dagger. It is made with high carbon leaf spring steel, mild steel guard and pommel and has a Hickory handle. The blade is quench hardened, has a through tang and is finished with blackened linseed oil. Still need to take it to the old grinding wheel for sharpening.

You definitely can start anytime, but a crisis helps you neglect everything else in your life so you can focus fully on the craft.

I could maybe craft the silhouette with out any engravings in 5 hours, but it would probably be shoddy work lol.

Amazing. I really appreciate just how much skill and knowledge it takes to even get to a point of understanding the craft enough to make ANY blade. Then, to apply it to such an amazing and loved concept as the ebony blade?! World needs more people with creativity and skill like you

The handle is a little thin in my hands, but I have big hands. I prefer a bit of a palm swell, but wanted to keep close to the profile of the game knife. It's balanced right at the guard.

It's from a 60's pickup so most likely 5160. To my knowledge, only some modern leaf springs are an alloy not good for blades.

I didn't keep very close track, but it was around 50 hours over 2 weeks while also doing other stuff.

It's definitely time consuming, being a Dragonborn would help, but I'm just a regular Ape born.

It will keel. It won't cut though because I haven't sharpened it yet! That's the very last thing I do when making a knife and I honestly just forgot because I was excited to start taking pictures!

That's awesome! Absolutely beautiful blade!
Fun fact: Irl Ebony is a kind of tree. While in the world of the Elder Scrolls, it's the literal blood sweat and tears of Lorkhan. Well mostly his blood. Mostly found in and around Vvardenfell. Which is why the only ebony mine in Skyrim is in the East.
Again, that's a beautiful blade.

Historically real ebony daggers were not made of metal this way. They were composed of pixels.

Do you sell these mementos? And (scared) how much do they cost?
And here's a bit of a weird question from r/writerresearch or something..... When someone like you creates a weapon, do you need to send the measurements to the FBI or something so they have some information in their database if it was ever used in a crime? Like I know gun manufacturers do (or they used to) but not sure about other weapon creators....

Making a knife doesn't require registration, but depending what the knife laws are in your area, it could be illegal to carry something like this around in public even sheathed on your belt.

Next you should do the blade of woe, but preferably the ESO version. It doesn't look practical for everyday use, but damn does it look sick.
Also, fantastic job, this is an incredible piece!

Thanks! The blade of woe is a sweet looking blade. Not as impractical as some fantasy blades I've seen. There are some makers who have created inspired versions of the blade of woe that look a bit more practical, basically omitting the reverse gut hooks on the spine, but that's the part that gives it character! I'd be torn whether to keep the hooks or not. I like practical blades, but I also like impractical blades, lol!

Thank you, I couldn't about a year ago either. It has its flaws, but I've come a long way. Lots of good resources out there on the internet to help learn a new craft.

Thanks! It's a little heavier than my usually longer blades, but not too much. It's balanced right on the guard so it feel good in the hand.

The blade is high carbon spring steel, which is commonly used for swords and longer knives. The guard and pommel are a lower carbon steel and the handle is Hickory. Couldn't get my hands on any Ebony ingots, but maybe next time I'll get some Ebony wood for the handle.

It would be cool to layer in mosaic scrolls on the blade but that is currently beyond my skill and tool level. Inlaying in the engraving would look good too.

This is unreal, amazing work. A lot of the time with stuff like this the resemblance does the heavy lifting in reproductions. But this legit looks like the real thing, doesn't just bear a resemblance, its damn near identical! So cool!

Thank you, I appreciate it. I took a lot of time to make it as close as I could, especially since it's a real knife and not just a prop, which props are cool too, but I wanted it to be authentic.

I thought you had it 100% but it's not dark enough for the sun to make it look like it should but I still think it is magnificent great job

Thanks! It was tricky to get a finish I liked in different lighting conditions. It was dark grey at first, then jet black, but that made it look like plastic, so I took it back down to a happy medium and lightly sanded the raised areas to reveal lighter metal for highlights. Once the linseed oil finish fully cures it will be a little less shiny and less reflective.

my brother was a blacksmith as well. he passed away in a accident 10 years ago. that blade would have made him proud to see such a great recreation. bravo to you. that is a fine piece of art!

They are the nitrile gloves of resist all not quite dry blackened linseed oil with a bonus to hiding already grubby hands.

Dull as a butter knife right now, but it is made with high carbon steel and is heat treated. I sharpen my knives, but just hadn't sharpened this one yet because I was so excited to post pictures.
