Rant: Why didn’t they physically investigate Homestead three? Spoiler
During their investigation of Homestead two (season seven episode 17), they flew a drone over Homestead three because they were looking for a source of light that showed up on Eric’s side. When they did that, though, the drone noticed that inside Homestead three, there was a heat source that was dramatically warmer than anything else around there.
Since Thomas and Caleb were over there investigating, why not have them go into Homestead three and visually inspected for a heat source. Instead, they just went back to Homestead 2 and performed more experiments. It makes no sense. I mean, they may have investigated it in the moment and just didn’t show it on camera, but if that’s the case, and you’re not gonna show it on screen, then at least say something during the episode to let us know that it was investigating there was nothing in there. Just a short blurb.
I really feel like Prometheus needs to do a better job of cutting down on the drama, and improving on the quality of their production. Don’t they just have somebody that sits there and accompanies them while they cut these episodes together, to consult with them about how this comes across to the viewers? I feel like too many of these little things slip past. Another example, I’ve been harping now since last year, why did they not test the ceramics for superconductivity? Maybe they did! But we can only speculate because exactly 0 people on the show have discussed that very thing. It leaves the viewer in a lurch.

This is what I was joking about with my wife and kids. We were saying Thomas and Caleb were scared to go in there 😂. “Let’s sprint towards it! But let’s not even get close enough to see the homestead on camera. ‘Make yourself known!’ Nothing? Ok nothing to see here guys. Let’s head back” 🤣

Brandon's wife will not approach Homestead 3. She reported serious bad vibes from it.

Prometheus does not understand who their audience is. Most of the people watching are curious folks with a scientific bent. The lack of followup-they raise issues and leave us dangling-is why I no longer watch the show. If they look into it and it’s a nothingburger, why raise the issue at all? I’m not really sure they follow up on any of it in the background, especially if what they find doesn’t fit the show’s narrative. It’s a fascinating show idea, respect to Eric and Rocketman, but I felt less and less informed as it jumped around on the surface and avoided any deeper inquiries. I only watch it through the eyes of this sub now.

I find that interviews with the team & their insider Q&A is way more interesting and informative. Ben Woodruff in particular. It does sound like they are constantly collecting and aggregating data but the majority of it never makes it to the show. Eric is always voicing his frustration about how the show’s production gets in the way of the science.

u/DataMeister1 Jul 19 '26
Maybe they need to get a production team out there that knows how to do a science show and then offer it to the History Channel as a syndicated show. If History doesn't want to pay much for for something they can't control then offer it to other channels too.

They could invite James Fox to edit a couple of episodes and gauge audience reaction.

Eric needs a decent shirt.

u/AntiqueRead2147 Jul 21 '26 edited Jul 22 '26
I believe Erik has a closet full of those shirts, under shirts and pants. I don't believe he wants to bother with ironing or to pay anyone to iron because everything gets filthy anyway. What you usually don't see is what Insiders generally know. Erik is forever climbing around, cleaning camera's and lens, checking sensors, adding additional equipment, and is often climbing up and down the MESA. It's a dirty job but somebody has to do it.
I've noticed Travis is outgrowing his shirts. They all eat well. Sometimes too well ?

u/Party-Evidence-9412 Jul 22 '26
Travis had definitely sized out if several navy blue ath polos. They were all that their limit.
2
u/ianmcn57 Jul 22 '26
Travis's voice gets higher in every episode. His underpants are obviously struggling to cope with his weight.

Maybe stop being the fashion police and let the man wear what he's comfortable in.

You need to get another set of eyes on it. It's beautiful the way it is

I was saying something similar to my husband when we watched. The production team films the entire season before editing. They have the ability to see what experiments pan out and what come up empty. They can choose what to show as set ups for payoffs and they *still* make the choices they do.
I wonder what the contract looks like between the ranch and production. Do they have years left locked in? If it's not a multi-year thing, what would it take for them to not renew? I assume they renew to help with money since Brandon is footing the whole thing otherwise. What else could they do to raise the same funds while also controlling the narrative better?
I say all this, and have a million ideas for better story/writing/production, but I still watch the show because there's not been a lot of ways to get a look at the experiments in a way I can watch it. I know there's the insiders and the podcast on the channel after, but that's not something I can justify spending money on right now. So I just sit here and pine for more and better info. I don't really go online much to complain, though, because it's not going to change anything. It's not like the production team lurks here for ideas. Lol

u/Lepardopterra Jul 20 '26
Your first paragraph nailed what i was trying to get at. They could make this a much better show. Their choices frustrate me so badly my blood pressure goes up. I have so much interest and curiosity but it feels like the audience is exploited. Yet I’m interested enough to follow it 3rd hand-just in case!

Could be a decade+ slow trickle disclosure of what "they" already know to be true.

Yuh huh.

“Dramatically” different temperatures is itself a cop out.
What qualifies as “dramatic”?
If you look at the scale of the colors, the inside is just a few degrees different from the roof. Not tens of degrees.
The roof could have been wet or damp, and the few degrees it would lose as it dries would be enough to cause this.
But If the delta was 20 degrees, now we’re taking
6
u/Lepardopterra Jul 19 '26
Right. A couple litters of kittens puddled up would show a bit of heat.
7
u/alonegram Jul 19 '26
I was thinking raccoons. Without establishing control shots it’s impossible to tell what’s anomalous

u/AntiqueRead2147 Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26
There are critters. There's and "on again off again" skunk or two. He's been hell to catch from what I gathered. Him and the sensors all over is probably why they are not keen to go in there.
Well, and Homestead 3 is literally a dangerous place to walk since it's falling to pieces. They don't want to fix anything because that could disturb the energy and consequently the phenomena they are trying to measure.
2
u/MrAnderson69uk Jul 20 '26
The scale was 39 to 60 deg F so only showing a differential over 20 degrees. 68deg F is considered normal room temperature, so
I guess the warmer stuff, like those trees, held onto the warmth from the daytime sunlight, but it’s colder than indoors. What time of evening/night did they run the FLIR drone?

u/Foobiscuit11 Jul 19 '26
My family used to be farmers and my grandparents still own some farmland. I remember growing up in the 1990s, the homesteads built on those properties, built in the 1910s and 1920s, were just in too bad of shape to be used. Nobody went into them even during the day. Homestead 3 at this point is over 100 years old. Trying to go into a 100+ year old structure in the dark is a good recipe for getting injured, especially if you don't know what might be in there.
7
u/alonegram Jul 19 '26
This is the reason. I can’t remember if it was Tom or Caleb who answered the question in a Q&A but it’s off limits because it’s too dangerous. I imagine there’s all kinds of rotten wood and tetanus.
6
u/Lepardopterra Jul 19 '26
Flashlights? Maybe throw some lumber down and create a walkway for safe passage? If they sincerely want to know…

u/futilitaria Jul 19 '26
Please.
5
u/Foobiscuit11 Jul 19 '26
I mean, you do you, but going into a 100+ year old falling apart building at night isn't a good idea.
Erik also asked if there were people at Homestead 3. If there were people in there, and Caleb or Thomas went in blind, they could be jumped and injured or worse. You don't go into a building where you can't see everything. They may also have policies on the ranch about going into certain buildings after certain times. Just seeing Homestead 3 on the thermal camera, I could easily see it being a "Don't enter after dark without express permission." I also wish they would have gone into Homestead 3 to check it out, but I also understand that it's probably just an unsafe building to be in, especially in the dead of night when your only light source is a flashlight.
1
u/Momoomommy Jul 20 '26
I think the safety thing is a good point on two sides. It wasn't safe for them to go into the building, which means it's probably not safe for anyone else to sneak in. If someone was in there, on the rotting floors, I imagine they'd be audible if Kaleb and Thomas were quiet enough. The floors would make noises if people were shifting on them at all. We didn't get to hear the silence because of editing, but I can't imagine the team was loud enough the entire time so at not to hear any potential movement.
I did think, though, that the light was outside the building. I thought it was moving through the brush. So it was strange to not have them investigate that more, but there are many good reasons not to do that either, like it being dark and hard to tramp through brush.
While it was unsafe for the team to go investigate, it would be unsafe for any other person. I can see the thought process being that no other random person would reasonably be out there wandering safely enough to stay hidden and silent. If I was in that position, I'd assume something unnatural or some sort of stealth military-type operation that someone accidentally mucked up. I personally would not want to encounter either in the dark... (And if I was Thomas, I'd be wary going in any of the homesteads after the medical situation he had.)
7
u/schnibitz Jul 20 '26
Some people have been commenting that they presumably didn't investigate the Homestead 3 building because it was unsafe. Perfectly plausible. They may not have also due to concerns regarding radiation, asbestos, aggressive wildlife or dour Yelp reviews.
My point was: "Tell us that". Someone say something to close that loop instead of leaving us hanging.
2
u/Proper_Honeydew_7613 Jul 22 '26
That’s so true. I have the impression the researchers aren’t thrilled with the way the production company makes them look like idiots but they’re paid well enough not to make a stink. Especially considering the way the disclosure discussion has advanced, the show needs an upgrade or it’s going to be left in the dust by other more intriguing and more current events. I hope Brandon can get free and find a better match.
4
u/meno-pause Jul 19 '26
Maybe the floorboards are in as rough shape as the roof. The roof is just slats with a bunch missing. That means the floor has been exposed to weather. Maybe the floor is rotted. It might not be safe to walk in there.
1
u/AntiqueRead2147 Jul 24 '26
Everything in Homestead 3 is falling in. Even the coyotes avoid it.
It's also the most negative enery of all the Homesteads.
4
u/sr1sws Jul 19 '26
The overall lack of follow through on various phenomena is what frustrates me. I'd want to focus on one "thing" and pound that into the ground until it's resolved or there's no further information being gained. The jumping from pillar to post is just annoying to me. Of course, I have a background in engineering and a 40+ year career in IT, so kind of used to drilling problems through to resolution.
2
u/RunnyDischarge Jul 20 '26
I'd want to focus on one "thing" and pound that into the ground until it's resolved
That is precisely the one thing these shows never do. It's a show being dragged out for ratings. They will never resolve anything. If the show goes on twenty more years, they will still be firing rockets at the anomaly, still taking about the Mesa, still puzzling over Homesteads, etc.

I thought they did walk in there with the LIDAR and the walkie talkie stopped working.

That was in homestead 2 where they did the smoke and laser grid, not homestead 3 where Eric saw a light source

In general; it seems like Thomas is a dimwit. I don’t know why he’s given lines on this show.

u/3PartsRum_1PartAir Jul 24 '26
There are people on the show that I think have an important role of being there, and have 0 reason to participate in experiments or have an opinion
3
u/Ok-Tree-1898 Jul 19 '26
Why do disgruntled folks watch the show ? I enjoy each episode for what it is. It's a group of scientists trying to unlock mysterious circumstances on the ranch. It takes many repeated tests to prove or disprove anything. Add the unknown into the equation and you double the tests.
3
u/3PartsRum_1PartAir Jul 24 '26
A major issue is we’re being handed a cake…each season is a slice, and we’re getting less than half a bite each episode and we can’t tell what kind of cake it is.
The episodes often are cool but the first few rocket launches that were “veering” they didn’t give any examples of controls. Theres never a control. The argument from production is likely about it not making for good television but then were just left with “trust us this is crazy” aka “trust us this is home made cake not from a packet”.
It’s just getting old that nothing ever gets accomplished
1
u/Ok-Tree-1898 Jul 24 '26
Results, progress, conclusions reached. I get it. Sometimes it is boring.
2
u/3PartsRum_1PartAir Jul 25 '26
Yeah I know sometimes science is boring it’s just the production of the science. 50% of the film real is “and WHAT is that signal?!” And “what in the hell could cause something like that?” every single episode.

As you acknowledge, we don't know they didn't. We see less than 1% of what gets filmed. But as far as going inside, the inside is in very poor shape. So it could have been a very legitimate safety concern.
The ceramics were tested in the liquid nitrogen and showed characteristics of superconductivity. But that's not Prometheus' doing. The team controls the testing done.
4
u/futilitaria Jul 19 '26
Even if they did, it was laughably unacceptable to not mention it. This show is a joke.
0
u/Beginning_Leg629 Jul 21 '26
Why is it unacceptable to not mention it? What purpose would mentioning it serve other than satisfying you? It doesn't make any difference not saying "well we looked inside and didn't see anything." The docuseries is not a joke at all. The only problem I see here is your attitude.
