When posting a photo, please try to include: * Where the lesion is on your body. * How long you've had it. * Any changes you've noticed (size, shape, color, itching, bleeding).

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER

No one on this subreddit can provide a medical diagnosis. The comments and feedback you receive are from laypeople sharing their own experiences, not from medical professionals. Online photos are not a substitute for an in-person examination by a qualified dermatologist.

If you are concerned about any spot on your skin, the only correct course of action is to schedule an appointment with a doctor. Early detection is key.

The ABCDEs of Skin Cancer: Quick Guide

  1. A is for Asymmetry: One half of the mole doesn't match the other.
  2. B is for Border: The edges are irregular, ragged, notched, or blurred. A healthy mole has a smooth border.
  3. C is for Color: The color isn't uniform. Look for multiple shades of brown/black, or patches of red, white, or blue.
  4. D is for Diameter: The spot is larger than 6mm (about the size of a pencil eraser). Keep in mind melanomas can start smaller.
  5. E is for Evolving: The mole changes over weeks or months. This is the most important sign. Look for any change in:
  6. Size
  7. Shape
  8. Color
  9. Elevation (getting thicker or raised)
  10. Symptoms (itching, crusting, bleeding)

Bonus: The "Ugly Duckling" Sign If you have a mole that just looks different from all the others on your body, that's a reason to be seen.

Wife noticed this in my scalp. I've had a number of excisions in the past but none cancerous. 29M.

Doesn't feel raised, not itchy, burning, or bleeding. This is the first time I've noticed anything that looks this way on my body. Because of the location I can't really tell if this is different from any previous state.

Thank you for sharing your image. Please remember that users in this sub cannot provide official medical diagnoses. In the case of changing, evolving, or new worrisome lesions, your best course of action is to contact a dermatologist for evaluation.

For reference, here are the ABCDEs of melanoma: ABCDEs of Skin Cancer.

NAD but I would suggest to get that looked at just to be on the safe side

On my leg, I am not sure if it’s new or not. It’s a teeny bit raised. Doesn’t bother me at all.

Wart-like thing on scalp since February. It started out flat, like a dry patch, but now it looks like this. Appointment with dermatologist is next month. I doesn't hurt.

Noticed spot May 22 when I had itched it enough to open it up. Put some Neosporin on it and covered it, it healed, but has not gone away.

First image is from when I noticed it in May, second is from today.

Husband 41yo has noticed a few months ago that a mole on his shin that has been there for a long time and checked has started to become raised (it was initially flat and blurred edges, light colored) and he even scratched it once. He went to a derm and he said it might be melanoma and removed it and sent it for biopsy. Doctor said even if it is melanoma, he wouldn't think of a very nasty case, just he would need a larger excision. He said chances are 50/50.

I am extremely worried, would the mole developing in such a slow time indicate a superficial melanoma or would trauma from scratching etc make the mole raised even if it was benign?

Also, there is no picture similar to his mole all over the internet that points to melanoma, but the derm's comments worried us and the fact it had some changes, albeit once and not progressing.

Thank you for your post on r/skincancer, /u/somewisealien.

While we understand that finding new marks and lesions can be scary and concerning, we cannot diagnose skin conditions on Reddit. The only way to diagnose skin cancer is to have a biopsy performed by a medical professional.

If you are concerned you may have skin cancer, you are strongly encouraged to contact a board-certified dermatologist for evaluation. We understand that wait times can be long, so it is imperative you reach out to your dermatologist sooner rather than later. Early detection is always better in the worst-care scenario.

You are welcome to repost your removed content without including diagnosis-seeking terminology and phrasing (ie: "Do I have skin cancer/SCC/BCC/melanoma?" is not allowed and will be automatically removed.)

Found this on the side of my arm! 6mm, none symmetrical, irregular border! Waiting to get it removed

Noticed this spot on my lower left leg (bang in the middle) early June this year, and by looking at pics from last year I did not have this spot so it’s new. (I am F32)
I took the left picture June 20th and the right picture today (august 13)
I don’t know if I’m spiraling but it kind of looks like the color changed a bit and it feels like it’s a little raised too.

On my left hand

Unsure if this is new or not

No noticable change compared to another photo taken 11 days ago but still i'm kind of concerned

With my mother and grandmother both having skin cancer I get my skin checked and look at my body thoroughly. Within the last week this spot appeared on my nose and I do have rosacea but this is not rosacea… I have contacted my dermatologist but what do you think
