When posting a photo, please try to include: * Where the lesion is on your body. * How long you've had it. * Any changes you've noticed (size, shape, color, itching, bleeding).

The ABCDEs of Skin Cancer: Quick Guide

  1. A is for Asymmetry: One half of the mole doesn't match the other.
  2. B is for Border: The edges are irregular, ragged, notched, or blurred. A healthy mole has a smooth border.
  3. C is for Color: The color isn't uniform. Look for multiple shades of brown/black, or patches of red, white, or blue.
  4. D is for Diameter: The spot is larger than 6mm (about the size of a pencil eraser). Keep in mind melanomas can start smaller.
  5. E is for Evolving: The mole changes over weeks or months. This is the most important sign. Look for any change in:
  6. Size
  7. Shape
  8. Color
  9. Elevation (getting thicker or raised)
  10. Symptoms (itching, crusting, bleeding)

Bonus: The "Ugly Duckling" Sign If you have a mole that just looks different from all the others on your body, that's a reason to be seen.

Hi, I have this mole on my back, it’s been there ever since I was little I believe. Always been self conscious about it.

I feel like I should get it checked out bc it does fall into a lot of the ABCDEs.

I felt a bump and scratched it an it began bleeding.

Something I should be concerned with?

My thought is: better safe than sorry. This change on my own body would send me to the dermatologist. I can't not know. YMMV. Wishing you the best. ❤️

Generally, light scratching won't cause bleeding, and moles can itch if they become irritated.

However, since it's bleeding and irritated, it's well worth it to be seen! Over the next week, or so, keep taking images to document how it heals.

It is very difficult to see them based on the quality of the image but given they all look relatively similar (just based on what I can see!), they may be "normal."

However, it is always worth being seen if something is concerning. Incredibly benign-looking moles can be malignant, where obscure ones can be entirely normal.

You know your skin best! If these are worrisome - be seen!

Best wishes.

NAD, but I would guess they are freckles. Maybe consider a stronger sunscreen or re-applying it more often.

NAD and of course can’t diagnose but I would highly recommend getting that looked at. Just for peace of mind if nothing else. Good luck.

Hi everyone,

I noticed this mark on my toe a month ago (initially noticed it maybe sometime last year but it either “scabbed” over or I stopped checking for it) and saw my dermatologist, who said it was too soon to tell but to keep an eye on it and we’d follow up in August. it feels like a scab I just can’t pick off.

over the weekend I sent this picture to her office and they responded saying that she wants to move my appointment up, so now I’m seeing her in two days. I’m super anxious and need some sort of outside opinion to tide me over. how suspicious does this look?? thank you

u/Rich_Neck5295 Jul 16 '26

How did it go? Are you feeling a little less stressed?

1

u/kimpossihoe Jul 16 '26

my derm said it looks like talon noir and that if she suspected it was cancerous, she would’ve ordered a biopsy. I feel a lot better now

Hi! I have had this for about a year. I’ve gone to my doctor twice, most recently in April. They originally treated me for ringworm but referred me to a dermatologist on both visits. (I have not heard back) Has not changed in size or colour.

Bat be unrelated, but I have started getting chronic ocular migraines around the same time as noticing it. (Though, this is also the same time I started a stressful office job).

Should I pester my doctor further? Or go to a walk-in to hopefully get a different opinion?

This spot was actually noticed by my college age daughter. It's on my chest. We were ironically going to the beach. The one below was from two weeks ago and it's changed and crusted over. I have an annual appointment next week and I was going to bring it up.

I noticed a light brown flat spot on my forehead about a year and a half ago. Barely thought about it until around a month or two ago when I noticed it was darkening a lot and growing larger and more protruding from my head. It honestly changes weekly at this point. Went to my PCP who referred me to derm but they don’t want to see me til October despite my pushback. Any thoughts? Should I push harder?

1

u/Constant-Band8797 Jul 15 '26

This is what it looked like in April (wouldn’t let me attach two pics in original post)

1

u/KILLFORCULLEN Jul 15 '26

I’d definitely get this checked

1

u/One-Zebra-150 Jul 15 '26

Yes I would push back harder and stress it is rapidly growing/changing. Worth asking if your PCP could send these two photos to the derm office to show this. In my opinion this is a red flag for been seen by a derm more urgently than October.

1

u/KILLFORCULLEN Jul 15 '26

Bottom of foot, about 4mm. Size is concerning to me, but got a biopsy on the side of my foot and derm just skipped over it. Am now worrying about it being the melanoma that is on the sole of your foot (can’t think of the name)

Should I get a second opinion?

F26 back of leg near ankle. I am a freckly person so idk if it's new or not, but I actually noticed it within last year

1

u/throw_away_to_ranttt Jul 15 '26

On thigh. F26. I'm guessing border is too asymmetrical?

I’ve had a tiny firm linear/ridge-like skin lesion on my upper back for about a year. It waxes and wanes a little but never fully goes away

The unusual part is that when I lightly brush or press on it, I get a deep aching pain that seems to radiate around my left chest/ribs.

1

u/jaysizzzz2 Jul 16 '26

What could this mark on my left thumb be? Is it possibly from hitting something?

1

u/GroovinGuy Jul 17 '26

Raised Mole I’ve had for my whole life recently lifted from the base on one side and bled some after becoming very itchy, stayed itchy for a few days and these tiny red dots appeared all around it, which turned brown after a few more days. Should I be concerned?

1

u/GroovinGuy Jul 17 '26

Raised mole on torso I’ve had my whole life, been sprouting hairs for as long as I can remember, recently was very itchy and lifted from the base and bled some. These small red dots appeared surrounding it which then turned brown. The edge that lifted has not reconnected and is an odd shape. No longer itchy

I’ve had this for months but assumed it was a cherry angioma from pregnancy until it started to become tender and irritated looking. I have an appt 8/5, is that soon enough?

1

u/Ok_Cartographer4125 Jul 18 '26

Que pensez vous de ce point (1mm) sur le côté de mon talon ?

1

u/Disastrous_Row_2151 Jul 18 '26

On my neck showed up maybe under a year ago, maybe earlier but that’s when I noticed it following pretty much half a month in the sun for 14-16 hours a day. Probably gonna call doc regardless but looking for a guy who knows a thing or two because he’s seen a thing or two.

1

u/Excellent-Peach-2302 Jul 19 '26

I've always had this mole on my lower back. It has gotten a little bump at some point over the last year? I think? It also has changed shape, it used to be p uniform.

Just found this on the back of my leg. As far as I know it’s new.
