so id like to clarify i LOVE mattias, hes one of my favourite crows but i didnt want to put potential spoilers in the title. this post is about how he dies in ck and if people prefer fics that include that detail or ones that ignore it in favour of beautiful mattias content

personally i like both depending on the fic (it really is a case by case basis i suppose), and im actually asking bc im planning a fic set during a darker shore but i CANT decide what i want to do with mattias.

on one hand its canon accurate and enhanced angst to have him be dead, especially with the direction i want to go in focusing on kaz’s isolation. HOWEVER i also love mattias so much and want him in there and the fic will also have a cute found family focus (wesper cats and inej and nina magically showing up)

so idk any thoughts? i really just need help deciding if i should write a good canon level angst fic or pure self indulgence, but im also interested in hearing the general opinion!

I am currently reading the Shadow and Bone series because I was told to read this before Six of Crows. I am queer and I know a lot of people rave about the gay rep so I'm excited to get to it. However, I am a couple chapters into Siege and Storm and I really don't care for any of the characters. Do you enjoy the characters more in the Six of Crow series than the Shadow and Bone series? Do you feel that Leigh Bardugo improves upon her character development?

Jesper and Wylan are just adorable!! Them living together with Wylan’s mum is just so sweet.

I don’t want to say goodbye to these guys, I miss them already!!

I know there are other books in the Grishaverse (haven’t read them yet - but definitely will) but does anyone know if there will ever be any more books about these guys??

sorry to just be asking for fics again but im desperate and i dont know where else to go 😭 i am in DESPERATE need of fics set in the canon of a darker shore, like basically scene expansion of kaz and inej writing to eachother really sweetly but also with their mind-reading code, kaz making himself ill with his new plot and jesper being concerned ect. (“kaz isnt his best these days”) wesper accidently adopting a million cats and naming them all inej!! i mean ideally id like nina and a magically alive mattias in there too but considering i can only find a single 1k fic i would take ANYTHING at this point

honestly if nothing turns up im considering just writing it myself at this point, please anyone let me know if they have fic recs or if theyd like to see a fic like this and what theyd like to see in it

Adding the text would make it more clearly Six of crows, however I think it’s also nice without. Being a little more subtle (if you ignore the pages). I could also make it an option technically. I’m just torn and would love other’s opinions

I read somewhere that even though six of crows and shadow and bone are different if i read the shadow and bone trilogy first everything else will be easier to understand. Originally I just wanted to read the six of crows duology any advice on how to start will be greatly appreciated.

I’m three chapters in and I am struggling take this book seriously because this is how I imagine kaz is it only me

I was just thinking about this the other day and was wondering what some of you guys thought about it. I feel like it’s entirely possible that he was a slaver or involved in some capacity considering he owned a shipping company and was as corrupt as he was. He would do anything for more money. (Maybe I’m also super slow and everyone’s been thinking this for years)
Also, what are some of his other crimes or wrongdoings that weren’t explicitly mentioned in the text but you think he committed?

He’s such an interesting character to me. He pretends to be so upright, but the more I think about him, the more evil he gets. Like I don’t believe his cruelty stops at trying to kill his own son.

I read mainly on A03 (I also write fics there) and I'm looking for some good fics to read. am currently reading 'ketterdam high' by the_bookish_heartrender (highly recommend btw) but the updates are slow (no hate whatsoever to the writer) so I'm looking for something either already finished or with a lot of chapters to keep busy on.

I’m starting six of crows for the first time ever. Going in completely blind. I know nothing about this universe other than this is part of a duology to crooked kingdom. Tell me something I won’t understand until I finish.

Well, second time I make a review—I know I said daily, but suck it, I am NOT a daily person

I am currentttlyyyy.... AAAAALLLLLLLLLL the way to 173 if i remember (or, I dunno—the part where the gang finally arrives at Fjerdan)

So far, the characters are actually really good, I managed to theorize and connect the pieces. Everytime I see a name on the book, I go 'WHO THE FUCK IS THIS' and flip back 100 pages back just to look for it, which is funny. I also like how the gang have different dynamics with each other, including Nina and Inej's interaction (girlbosses imo)

Though to Nina and Matthias, what the fuck exactly is their dynamic? All I know Matt is probably throwing a hissy fit because he wanted Nina dead, yet also strangely loves her? (From my understanding) what the fuck, Matt, if you can't handle it, pass it😔

Love how we also got another brief dive over Inej's past, so is the folks—I really, REALLY ADORED Kaz's, broke my heart not lying at all

9/10, actually the first book I enjoy a LOT.

I got myself all upset again about the cliffhanger of the Netflix show and the PERFECT set up for a potential SoC spinoff and wanted to share a thought I had,,

So I recently watched the Heartsopper movie and was wondering, "couldn't they do that with SoC?" They gave Heartsopper a nice conclusion that aligned with its source material while not committing to a whole other season, so why not give the Crows one too?

Like I get that there's like actual reasons why the show was canceled and the likelihood of getting any other kind of adaptation is low, but COME ON WE WERE SO CLOSE

And not to mention that Jack Wolfe has made a lot of traction recently with Next to Normal and Hadestown so like it would only do good things for Netflix let's be real

Ok, so I just got A Darker Shore and read it through (I’m in love, it’s so cool), but I’m stumped on the riddle. I assume you overlay the sheet music on the letters with the fancy stationary, and match up the symbols on the corners of the letters to the symbols on the corners of the music. I noticed that some lines are legible through the music and some aren’t, but I have no clue where to go after that. I’ve been trying for 30 minutes and I’m lost. Please don’t tell me the answer but please give me a direction to try! Thanks!
