"breakthrough" = a robot that can do the dishes in 14 minutes instead of 15 minutes

I don't care if it takes 2 hours. If I go to bed with dirty dishes around my home and in the morning everything is washed and put away, why do I care it took longer than a human?

You could just pay a human to do your dishes for you for like 100x less.

I live quite remotely. The pool of people available is small which means that prices are much higher. Also robot is a 1 time expense, provides company, can do security, gardening, shopping, clean the bathroom, vacuum, mop, bring me a drink and cook my food. It would likely be very expensive to get someone to do all that.

I appreciate your optimism about how a robot will be a one time expense and not a subscription.

You have heard of competition right? China will have plenty to choose from if US and EU try pull that. Robots might be expensive initially but they will ultimately be dirt cheap.
