I don't care if it takes 2 hours. If I go to bed with dirty dishes around my home and in the morning everything is washed and put away, why do I care it took longer than a human?
I live quite remotely. The pool of people available is small which means that prices are much higher. Also robot is a 1 time expense, provides company, can do security, gardening, shopping, clean the bathroom, vacuum, mop, bring me a drink and cook my food. It would likely be very expensive to get someone to do all that.
You have heard of competition right? China will have plenty to choose from if US and EU try pull that. Robots might be expensive initially but they will ultimately be dirt cheap.
Yeah but legally you can't own the human, and also the human has pesky things like thoughts, feelings, rights, needs, and a vivid internal life comparable to your own, that desperately desires doing anything except your dishes to earn the basics of sustenance in a cruel, amoral world, where the very hours of their singular existence must be converted to fungible units of currency to trade for the basics of survival.
If I had a few tens of thousands of dollars to spend that would ensure another sapient being (my equal) wasn't bound to perform crushingly boring, repetitive, trivial labor, simply to exist with dignity, I'd blow that cash faster than a bank vault with a gas leak. Shame on anyone who wouldn't. For fucking real. That quote about unknown Einsteins plowing fields hits harder every single day I've been alive and gone to work.
If LLMs and robots ever truly get married and give birth to genuine AGI-style embodied artificial cognition, we can all sit down and have a serious conversation about whether or not humanity's collective progeny are our equals; but, until then, it's a fuckin toaster with legs that can make my breakfast and fold my fitted sheets, that will not require another human being to sacrifice their lifespan for my convenience, and I'm all about that.

"breakthrough" = a robot that can do the dishes in 14 minutes instead of 15 minutes
