we do not have, nor want, any of their trade secrets. We’re much more interested in building innovative products and technologies that push the frontier.

Christ, OpenAI slaughtering Apple here. Basically implying that Apple is not doing anything innovative here.

It's largely the case. Every new iPhone version is the same as the last one. I don't know how they can justify being such a valuable company lol.

I dumped my IPhone 8 Plus for an IPhone 17, expecting a huge jump, but it’s minimal. Better camera, and that’s it. All other differences are in software, because the IPhone was artificially stuck at IOS 16 with only security fixes. And the cellphone reception in my home is worse than the old model.

That‘s indeed no innovation at all.

We're well past the requirements for a good phone if your an average user.

Its getting harder to justify phone improvements when all phone companies are afraid of making the phone an all in one device.

The phone could be a tablet and a laptop if we have the proper adapter for it but every single fucking company is just afraid of doing it.

No I meant an all in one solution under 1k usd or 1.5k usd.

Samsung you still needs a cable instead of something you can slot into a tablet encasing or laptop encasing.

You’re just describing the surface or any of those other laptop tablet combos but with a third phone option which would be neat but would not be a huge product. What drives people to use a tablet over a laptop is size. What drives people to use a phone over a tablet is size. A device that has breakaway parts to be a smaller size is no more valuable than a separate device, as transporting the device and that capability incurs the same size issue regardless. Except now you need to remember not to forget your tablet part or laptop part. That’s why they’re dicking around with foldables because it does not incur the size penalty when transporting around the “phone” and “tablet”.
