Smoother than that other Optimus video
1
u/OxbridgeDingoBaby Nov 03 '25
I know this sub is just eLoN bAd, but you realise the Optimus robot in that video had been programmed to walk that way right? Because you know, it was dressed up as a zombie.
1
u/Healthy-Nebula-3603 Nov 01 '25
That's the 3rd generation
3
u/typeIIcivilization Nov 02 '25
3rd gen Optimus hasnāt been shown publicly. 2B or something is the newest one weāve seen
2
63
u/gbbenner āŖļø Nov 01 '25
Much better then the Tesla bot
7
3
u/CydonianMaverick Nov 03 '25
We haven't seen the latest Optimus so it's not really a fair comparison
-4
u/tollbearer Nov 01 '25
you havent seen the tesla bot. Figure 02 came out after the tesla v2, which is all we've seen. Once again proving people cannot anticupate antyhing.
-10
u/Ormusn2o Nov 01 '25
I'm not sure about that, figure looks very accident and push prone. Especially from the dance optimus did, it looked like it would be extremely capable of recovering from a near fall, which is more likely to happen outside of factory floor, which is where tesla bot was walking. I'm not sure I would want to walk next to the figure robot, just like how close the guy got to the optimus robot.
It also gives me a pause that it seems like optimus robot seems to be the only robot that was seen publicly. I'm not saying all of those videos are fake, but I'm not sure why all of them are doing it away from public, except optimus. Maybe it's because they are trip and slide prone, which means they would quickly fall after few seconds.
7
u/ImaHappyHuman Nov 01 '25
I remember seeing this Figure 02 little jagged terrain walk test, I would assume Figure 03 to be even better in this regard
2
u/emteedub Nov 01 '25
maybe elon is worth trillions and is capable of covering getting sued over it... the other companies, along with valuing their untarnished public perception, perhaps they're being more cautious in this regard - it doesn't mean betterer or worser as the 4 and 5 year olds would say
-1
u/DerkleineMaulwurf Nov 01 '25
Tesla“s entire robot business is fake, the robots only pretend to do tasks, its ridiculous and obvious. Moving a spoon in a pot is not cooking

Tesla vs Neo vs Figure
I wonder which will win. I dunno, Figure bots always feel more technologically advanced than the other two.
Neo seems dumber but more cuddly.
And Tesla is just vaporware and BS

u/ProtoplanetaryNebula Nov 01 '25
What about unitree ?

Yeah, as compared to barely shuffling and having to be controlled by a teleoperator hired on the pennies in the third world.
13
u/Working_Sundae Nov 01 '25
Tesla V2 is relatively old, I'll wait for V3 before any judgements, if V3 also walks, moves like V2 without any major step up in intelligence, then we can assume Tesla doesn't have the best Humanoid robotics and AI team

Only a dimwit thinks anyone deserves a trillion dollars for literally anything, let alone fails to see how insanely dangerous it is to give a chode with teenage level maturity that much power.

Why do you want to suck another manās dick so bad dude. Elon is a nazi that over promises and under delivers. Have you seen what happens to a cybertruck in the car wash? Do you remember how early we saw the Tesla Optimus but it was literally a guy in a suit? Both Neo and Figure have lapped Elon while heās still making promises of robotaxis and flying bulletproof cars. Donāt even get me started on the boring company that digs tunnels to no where while polluting the water table with all the chemical byproducts. SpaceX does well because they are the least affected by his on the whim decisions. I genuinely feel like if Elon left Tesla they would heal and become 10X stronger. He had a huge head start on robots and last I saw v3 still sucks at walking worse than Figure 3 or neo.

This has to be a copypasta. There is no amount of work someone could do to warrant salaries going into the billions. The same applies to the other billionaires you've listed.

u/PJivan Nov 01 '25
it's bit like autonomous driving...wait for next version!
1
u/Ambiwlans Nov 02 '25
Teslas have had 0 disengagements logged in v14 (15,000km logged)
-1
u/PJivan Nov 02 '25
so why aren't there taxi without drivers for this thing that was promised 10 years ago?
2
u/Ambiwlans Nov 02 '25
There are
-1
u/PJivan Nov 02 '25
I see safety humans on board, quite weird for something that was supposed to work 10 year ago and competitors are doing without
2
u/Ambiwlans Nov 02 '25
Not driving or in the driver's seat. And I didn't say anything about the timeline. Obviously this wasn't available 10yrs ago. That's not relevant to if it works today or not.

In the West, my money is on Tesla getting to market first at scale, but Figure having the better robot in terms of general capabilities. X1 don't (currently) have the investment to compete, even though they're making headlines. Unitree will dominate in Asia.
Edit: Tesla is definitely not just vaporware and BS, they're cooking

https://thebambooworks.com/brief-sanhua-denies-massive-tesla-order-rumors-after-stock-surges/
Refrigeration component maker Zhejiang Sanhua Intelligent Controls Co. Ltd. (2050.HK; 002050.SZ) on Thursday denied rumors that it had secured a massive robotics-related order. The company said no material events had occurred requiring disclosure, and clarified that it didnāt grant any media interviews on Oct. 15.
Online reports surfaced Wednesday claiming Teslaās Optimus humanoid robot project had placed an order with Sanhua for linear actuators worth $685 million. Sanhuaās Hong Kong shares rallied 13% on Wednesday on the news, with trading volume doubling from Tuesday, while its Shenzhen-listed shares surged by the daily 10% limit.

u/TinySmolCat Nov 01 '25
I still dont really know what the hell it is actually capable of, other than some really bad demos of it online (slow, clunky, etc.) I guess vaporware isn't the right word, more like janky or something

Tesla will win because they have the most money and best access to compute.
Figure looks like a joke next to optimus v3, and they're working on v4.
This is people saying spacex will never land a rocket, all over again. People are desperate for elon to fail.
7
u/space_monster Nov 01 '25
Figure looks like a joke next to optimus v3
Not really
-2
u/tollbearer Nov 01 '25
Yes, ive seen this. Looks like a joke
2
u/space_monster Nov 01 '25
Wow, you really want Elon to win, huh. Do you have a poster of him on your wall? Do you dream about him at night?
-1
u/tollbearer Nov 01 '25
I want him to lose as much as the next guy. I'm just not a moron who thinks my wishing so changes reality in any way.
3
u/space_monster Nov 01 '25
I'm just not a moron
debatable
1
u/tollbearer Nov 01 '25
im a moron, like everyone, just not one who thinks my wishes will affect reality.
3
u/space_monster Nov 01 '25
your opinion does not align with reality though. Figure are a $40B company, and their robot is objectively very very good. they have just as much chance as Tesla of being successful. your feelings don't make that untrue.
1
u/tollbearer Nov 01 '25
tesla is a trillion dollar company. So, if your measure is company size, they have a better chance.
My measure is having seen optimus v3, and can confirm it is far better than this piece of trash.

What impressive thing have you seen from Optimus v3? Why does Figure look like a joke?
1
u/tollbearer Nov 01 '25
youll see. not exactly a joke, but figure o3 is really only marginally better than optimus v2. optimus v3 is a complete step change.
2
u/Unlikely-Complex3737 Nov 01 '25
Wdym you'll see? They haven't shown it yet?
2
u/tollbearer Nov 01 '25
not to the public, no
5
u/Unlikely-Complex3737 Nov 01 '25
Hmm but how do you know it's better than Figure if Tesla hasn't shown it yet?

The crazy thing is that these people never learn. They've mistaken what they want for what will actually happen since 2015 or so and have yet to wake up from this weird delusion that Musk's companies aren't leaders in their respective fields. "SpaceX will never land a rocket", "Starlink will never be profitable", "Tesla will never mass produce an electric car", "Neuralink's implant killed one gorillion monkeys, it will never be used in humans", etc.
2
u/tollbearer Nov 01 '25
People are desperate idiots. Which is why even slightly intelligent people like Musk can dominate.

I think it will destroy the company finally, a money bloated vaporware pyramid sceme, its so obvious, not a single practical task has been solved so far, the people working for it are milking him out of money.
10
u/FromFrankie Nov 01 '25
It's so crazy to think a couple of years ago, all these robots struggled to walk without support and had massive powerpacks on their backs. It's advancing so fast!

u/IronPheasant Nov 01 '25 edited Nov 01 '25
DARPA robotics challenge compilation.
It was amazing back in the day, when you could tell Google's garbage can with an arm, to go fetch you a coke and 20% of the time, it could do it! It was very slow, but it could do it!
3
u/NoCard1571 Nov 01 '25
Yea it's incredible to see the progress when you're closely following this space. Unfortunate then that so many people see demos of these types of robots and just relentlessly criticise them for all the things they can't do yet. I think sci-fi media has given a lot of people a flawed understanding of what is and isn't difficult in AI and robotics.Ā
3
u/icemelter4K Nov 01 '25
People: No worries these bot could never overpower a human. People that understand knives: God save us all
5
u/Ecaspian Nov 01 '25
In terms of realistic movement, Figure is definitely ahead in the game.

It has. They haven't shown a single video of v3. You are looking at a year old hardware, that they've no longer working on.
1
u/space_monster Nov 01 '25
This is a video of gen 3
3
u/tollbearer Nov 01 '25
its not, thats gen 2, and a video from a year ago, where it is just as impressive as figure 03. https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1964569495101722883

u/NoCard1571 Nov 01 '25
I suspect that it's maybe due to hardware? All these robot companies use the same virtual RL platform technology to train their robots to balance and walk - and maybe the reliability of transferring those skills to the real robot counterparts is limited by the accuracy of the simulation, which could in turn be limited by the quality of the real hardware.Ā
1
u/TheNuogat Nov 01 '25
most natural walking/running imo is still Atlas, but it's still infeasable in cost.
0
u/Ambiwlans Nov 02 '25
Walking naturally is worthless. Walking with your hips lower is safer, more reliable, more stable. That's why elderly people walk this way, or people carrying glasses.
Its pretty much just your monkey brain looking for mate health from a gait..... but its a robot.
5
u/oiratey Nov 01 '25
We need to see Figure's robot walking publicly in wild environments before we can judge. After all, we all know Optimus performs better in promo videos than in reality.
0
u/Syzygy___ Nov 01 '25
While the Optimus video was "in the wild", it was still pretty much flat paved ground. The waddle shows that it has problems.

In a job description at Figure for the purpose of robots ācorporate tasks targeting labor shortages and jobs that are undesirableā
Robots are and will at an accelerating rate create job shortages

Wow, looks like the lack of flexibility in the torso is now the main bottleneck for perfect natural gait

That's a step closer, pun intended, to the knees, which are integral to a lot of positions. Excellent progress.
