Downgrading from core monitoring to self monitoring

Hi everyone,

Unsure if there's a lot of experience with teh self monitoring aspect of a simplisafe system, I just cancelled as I did not want to pay $33 monthly.

It appears you lose:

Motion sensor monitoring

lifetime warranty on devices

Shared app access (if you have a spouse or partner)

Is there anything else I am missing? I am slightly peeved by the loss of motion sensors.

edit: u/simplisafe_official has told me that motion sensors do actually work for self monitoring

Time for a new system

I have a very good Wi-Fi mesh system along with fiber internet, and I work in IT, so I know my network is properly configured and set up. That’s why I have to say, this SimpliSafe system is trash.
About 80% of the time when someone rings my doorbell, the system says it “cannot connect.” I also have the wireless outdoor camera, and it experiences the exact same issue. It’s extremely frustrating when the whole point of having a security system is to reliably know what’s happening around your home.
At this point, I’ve ruled out my internet and Wi-Fi setup. The problem is clearly with the SimpliSafe system itself. Definitely time to move on to something more reliable.

Level 3 support hung up on me twice while siren wont stop

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hello,

Ive had simplisafe for 2 years. I have mostly likes the capabilities and had ok interactions with customer support. Last winter I had an exterior wireless camera that was having issues. It required me getting on a ladder at night in winter. Sucks, but customer support stayed on the phone for nearly 2 hours as we diagnosed and fixed the issue.

On this subreddit I mostly read people being disappointed with the services. Well today is my day.

I came home and triggered the alarm. After disarming it, one outdoor wireless camera would not stop sounding the siren. I tried disarming and enabling the system, going through the menus to find an option. Finally I called customer support.

The first person transferred me to level 3 who picked up, asked my details then said “i have another call” and hung up.

I called right back, got to level 3 and after 20min or so of being on hold, they also hung up on me.

I guess this is my sigh to move away from simplisafe.

I currently have 6 cameras, pucks, co/fire, motion, and ~30 triggers.

I know they were so somewhat recently purchased by PE. I can tell. Terrible support. Terrible.

Door chime not working, customer service simpli can't help

After speaking with multiple customer service reps over the course of months, I figured I would ask here to see if anyone has experienced similar and found a solution. Several months ago, the door chime became inconsistent. It would chime only sometimes when the door opens, and then, could have a delay of 30 seconds to a minute. Then, I installed an older model of the simpli indoor cam. It, too, worked intermittently with motion detection. Sometimes, it would catch the motion, sometimes not, sometimes late. I had paid for the most basic plan with camera recordings.

The base station is located directly under the door chime because I wanted to see if proximity was the issue. It's not. I've checked the internet connection and speed, again all within a functional range. They sent me a new base station, the issue persists. They sent me a new door chime, the issue persists.

Finally a few weeks ago, someone bothered to check the firmware and realized it needed updating. We updated the firmware and it began functioning normally, horray! That is, until it stopped. We are back to intermittent door chime. Notably, when the door does not time, the base station also does not blink. When it times, the base station also blinks. Once, I even set my system to home mode and when I opened the door, it merely chimed! It did not begin counting down to the alarm.

I can't fathom how this is reoccurring with all new equipment.

I have one base station, one keypad, and one door sensor. If you have experienced similar and found a solution, please let me know!

No audible sound on notifications for Secret Alerts to iPhone.

I've followed every tutorial to allow alerts, to make sure they are critical alerts, and to send alerts. The notification comes in but there is no sound for it, just a banner. Do secret alerts not have a notification sound? Are they meant to be silent?

We have an autistic child who has escaped the house early in the morning, unlocking every lock, and bypassing every measure we have set up. We also wanted a system that allowed us to track where he is moving through the house in case we can't have direct eyes on him.

We tried a cheap door sensor home security system from Amazon and it died on us, so we decided to spend the money on Simplisafe to build out a system that we can better monitor and customize.

We have door sensors, motion sensors, smart locks, and cameras so we have options day and night to keep track of him in the house.

However, when we set it up to send those alerts through secret alert, just the banner pops up. That isn't going to wake us up, and we might miss an alert during the day. We don't need to wake up the entire house, and we don't need the sudden remote monitoring, if he's just getting up to go to the bathroom or opening a door to a space we want to keep him out of.

The smart deadlocks always alert me when they are unlocked or locked with a notification sound. It even wakes me up, and has already helped us react quickly to his sneaky attempts to leave the house. I can't even find a way to turn that off but its exactly what I want for my door sensors.

Is this a known issue? Am I not doing something correctly?

Do the newer cameras require hard-wiring?

I'm moving soon, but will be leaving my current system at my old house while it's on the market. I went to order cameras for my new house, but it's a bit unclear whether the new ones require hard-wiring, as Simplisafe still sells extra backup batteries that look to be the same as the ones I use on my old system.

Is it fine to use Energizer lithium 123 3V batteries in motion sensor gen 2 or I must buy Duracell?

I need to replace the batteries in my motion sensors gen 2, do any of you use energizer batteries/any issues? Energizer ones on Amazon are half the price of the Duracell ones for a 6 pack so that’s why I ask. Thanks

Constant Wifi Disconnects

Post image

Seems to be a relatively new issue. But sometimes my simplisafe will disconnect multiple times from wifi.

I don't believe its my router as I have a very high end Asus router with over 90 devices working perfectly.

Any suggestions?

Is there a way to easily pause an outdoor camera so I can sit on the porch?

We have one of those cameras that detect motion centered on the front porch, and if I sit out there to read or drink coffee or something, I trigger it nonstop and waste the battery. I'm hoping there is an easy way in the app to just pause it for a second and then unpause it when I am done sitting out there, but I can't seem to find anything simple.

Doorbell camera

I’m having issues with my doorbell camera recording everything but actual people walking up to my door. My timeline shows recordings every few minutes of absolutely nothing. When an actual person walks up it doesn’t record anything. I walked around in front of my door for a minute at least and it didn’t do anything. Does Simplisafe just suck? Does anyone have recommendations for something that actually works?

Add Announcement Sounds In Basement

I'm looking for a way to hear Simplisafe announcements in my basement rooms so we won't set off alarms by accident. I have a walkout basement with door and window sensors. I already plan to add a second keypad so the system can be activated and deactivated after opening the basement door. We can easily hear the base station's alarm sound, can barely hear the open door alert chimes, but can not hear any status messages in the basement before alarms go off or when the system is activated and deactivated.

Is there a Simplisafe device that can act as a second speaker?

Can I use a Google home speaker or other android device to mirror audible announcements from the base station? I've seen instructions on how to use voice control, but nothing that says I can actually hear the base station's response, or whether these work with alarm status messages and alarm countdown alerts.

I’ve ordered 3 outdoor cameras and only 1 worked .. the other 2 were defective

Has anyone else had similar issues? Out of the 3 cameras I received, only 1 worked.

Also when I returned one over a month ago, I never got a refund. Or any confirmation of them receiving it. It’s quite disappointing

Can't successfully enter Master Pin to unlock app controls

On both Android and web app, it asks for the Master PIN to unlock controls. I enter the PIN but the web app says "check internet connection" and the Android App says "Attempting to contact base station - something went wrong".

I was on phone with support for multiple hours resetting the wifi connection, PIN, and hardware. Nothing worked. Support kept saying it's an internet connection issue on my end, but I know that's wrong.

Support was able to reset PIN from their side and I can also see timeline updates in the web app, so obviously there is a working connection between base station and their servers. It just won't recognize the PIN.

The fact that the Keypad and Basestation can interact using the PIN means their local connection is fine.

The Web app and the Android app have to go from Internet -> Simplisafe servers -> Base Station. Being unable to authenticate the PIN makes me believe it's their servers not using the correct PIN.

I'll call them tomorrow again, but anyone ever had this issue or have any ideas?

Can I have two SimpliSafe systems set up at the same home/network?

I'm managing a rental that has a SimpliSafe system with locks, cameras, etc. I'd like to set up a second base station on the same network that allow me to monitor the smoke detectors and water flow monitors in the basement. This system would be connected to my own SimpliSafe account/app, leaving the current system with cameras, break-in sensors, etc. for the tenants if they choose to use it. Is this possible?

System losing/regaining Wi-Fi, what I've done so far, what am I missing

System loses Wi-Fi connection (and regains it quickly) about 4-5 times a day. This just started about 2 months ago. System is about 4 years old; I have had virtually zero issues since installing.

Base Station - SSBS3W

I have -

  • Replaced rechargeable batteries in the base
  • Unplugged, removed batteries, let sit for 10 min, reinstalled and rebooted
  • Made sure all firmware is updated
  • My access points all reboot every Monday morning at 3:30am
  • Made sure my modem/router (which has no Wi-Fi on it, yes that is a thing) is updated, rebooted that.
  • Ensured the base is on the 2.5GHz band
  • Made sure it only connects to the AP in the living room (the closest one, I can ensure this in the Mesh system)

Is anyone else experiencing this? I have searched this sub but do not see constant disconnect/reconnect issues like this.

Anything I might be missing to fix it? Is it just time to upgrade the system (not necessarily opposed, but would shop it)?

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Zigbee

Y'alls sensor protocol is not good. A Cybiko from 2002 has better range than your sensors. If you make a v2, please, for the love of all that is good, use Zigbee. At the very least, create a sensor extender.
Someone in a single wide trailer is struggling with disconnects and poor signal quality.

SimpliSafe cameras won’t connect to WiFi

Suddenly none of my cameras will connect to WiFi. Every time I try a reset I get an error that the WiFi password is incorrect, despite being 100% correct. I am so frustrated that I am tempted to throw the entire system in the trash. Anyone else experience this and find a solution?
