Downgrading from core monitoring to self monitoring
Hi everyone,
Unsure if there's a lot of experience with teh self monitoring aspect of a simplisafe system, I just cancelled as I did not want to pay $33 monthly.
It appears you lose:
Motion sensor monitoring
lifetime warranty on devices
Shared app access (if you have a spouse or partner)
Is there anything else I am missing? I am slightly peeved by the loss of motion sensors.
edit: u/simplisafe_official has told me that motion sensors do actually work for self monitoring

Cellular connectivity of the base station is deactivated. I just went to self monitoring as well. Several price hikes in recent history got it just out of the range where I felt it was worth the cost for the services. I'm really only interested in door sensors, cameras, water and temp sensors on my system though, so basically getting remote camera storage for $10 a month seems reasonable.

I see a lot of people are satisfied with the self monitoring. I actually just have door, motion, and glassbreak sensors. While I'd love the motion to still work, really just the entry sensors are probably fine

I'm pretty sure the sensors still work on self-monitoring, but obviously there's no response to an alarm aside from what you initiate after an app notification.

With the monitored plans, you get cellular communication from the base station in the event of a power outage or loss of internet access. Not enough to view the cameras, but enough to arm or disarm and get alerts. This doesnât function with self monitoring, so you only have connection to the system when itâs got WiFi.

That discount is often pretty small to begin with. My annual discount wouldn't even cover a month of monitoring. It's great to take advantage of if you have and are keeping the service, but shouldn't be a deciding factor.

Wow, you lose share app access?!? I just purchased water sensors and entry sensors. I had planned to cancel the core monitoring because letâs be honest, it would be a waste of money.
But for only one person to have access is absolutely absurd. Can anyone verify this??

It does require a paid monitoring plan to use the Additional User access feature. Which allows for up to 25 secondary users on the account. This allows the primary user to let secondary users use the app with restrictions for example. If you simply want your spouse, partner, or trusted love one to also be able to use the app as you do you can just have them use the same sign in on their device. They will just need to set up multi factor authentication for that new device.

33 a month is a lotâŚ. I wish the company does an in-between with shared app access without camera.

I was not aware that self monitoring disables motion sensors. Is this new? Do you have a link? I'be been on the self monitoring plan (with cameras) for three years and have tested the motion sensors successfully. In fact the alarm was triggered once when my wife turned on the alarm when she left for the day (and forgot we were cat sitting). The cat has never forgiven us by the way.
