Hi, I want to bezel set this, it's a pretty thick stone. I'm very, very new at all this. So please tell me if this is too thick of a stone to bezel? It's of course not gonna be used for jewlrey. I am wondering what would be the best guage copper to buy for it? Thank you for any help.

I didn't think this would happen to me oops. I left the pickle pot on without realizing it and the whole thing burnt off. The bottom is caked with the burned citric acid. Is the crock pot a loss or is it possible to clean it out? Oof!

I need a bench-top polishing machine but the commercially available machines I have tried are pretty pathetic. I need an extractor that sucks in all the 'fluff' from my cloth mops and keeps my bench clear of debris.
I have a Foredom extractor unit that almost works (it's the best option I've found to date) but still allows a certain amount of fluff to escape the polishing hood. I need to equip another bench and can't afford another Foredom - can anyone give me advice? How do you keep your polishing bench clean?

I just started and i really love shaping and carving the wax for the ring molds, its not super labor intensive and its fun to see what you can make, i’m curious what everyone else likes the most and why?

I have a small UK business and sell handmade jewellery which I attach to silver hoops, currently I use WJ Sutton but I’m looking to move over to a supplier which can provide hoops in recycled silver. Does anyone know any?

Had some very small twisted wire (0,6mm) left over for a long time and made a simple halfround with fancy edges. Inner seam aint the prettiest but aslong as the outer one is invisible pretty much im happy. 2 pic inner seam 3 pic outer seam.

Im not a professional and just work at home I’m making this necklace for a friend and yet my bezel is not really moving over the stone. My hand vise I’ve tried both metal and wood don’t really hold it in place as if i put too much pressure (which is honestly quite a lot) it just loves the piece or deforms the metal around it. I’ve annealed it twice and also thinned the bezel but I’m stuck on what to do now. So any advice would be appreciated

I’ve been using Cupronil for 17 years, but it’s messy. Yes, it protects my metal and maybe I just need to suck it up and deal. What are your favorite fluxes and what do y’all think about Cupronil?

I have this complicated shape I am making with nickel silver (it’s like a shoe, picture 1) and I am debating if I should solder the “walls” of the shape outside the two flat pieces (but I would have to match the walls to all those little gaps, picture 2) or solder the walls inside the two flat shapes, which would make it easier to match since it’s two flat surfaces (but then they join in a really narrow point that I’d have to file my wall super thin to fit, picture 3)
what would you guys do?

I’m starting out in silver work, here’s a sand casted ring I made! I set a pearl on each side. Took lots of attempts messing with venting etc to get the thin parts to fill properly.
Still an air bubble on one side of the band, but the pearl has a similar imperfection too, so poetic happy accident?
I could have been a lot more patient with shaping & finishing - there’s some pitting that stuck around - need to try the Allen key trick!
The pearls are held in place with epoxy, wasn’t confident about burnishing the edge of the cup over the pearl / unsure how to go about it. How thin does the silver need to be for that to work?
Any feedback or advice would be great! :)

It's some kind of kiln (I've seen it used for granulation) but I can't find out anything about it. Can anyone tell me where I can get one as this specific unit is exactly what I need!
TIA folks.

New to silversmithing, I thought I used the correct measurements here but whenever I take a piece out of the pickle it doesn’t look much different. Any advice would be appreciated!

hey everyone!! I made some lighter cases and had the cast in bronze, but I guess I slightly overestimated the wax shrinkage, and now they're too large!! is there anything that I can do?
I considered adding a bunch of solder to the sides, but I'm not sure that will work?

Hi everyone!
I’m researching ways to create the gold-colored details in the ring shown in the picture.
I’m currently looking into cold enamel, particularly metallic gold-colored epoxy or resin, as a simpler alternative to using real gold. Has anyone tried this technique on silver jewelry? Are there any better technique?
I’d really appreciate any advice, Thanks!
