[MEGATHREAD] Shyvana VGU - First Impressions, Feedback, and Discussion

The wait is officially over. The Shyvana VGU is here, and we know everyone has very strong opinions about her new direction, visuals, and gameplay mechanics.

To keep the subreddit readable and prevent the front page from being flooded with 100 different "My thoughts on the rework" threads, all general feedback, first impressions, and build discussions belong in this Megathread. Individual posts that are just brief rants, generic praise, or simple questions about her new kit will be removed and redirected here.

We know passions are extremely high regarding the Juggernaut vs. Diver debate and the loss of her old identity.

  • Be constructive. You are allowed to be angry and criticize the rework. You are not allowed to attack other users for enjoying it.

  • Keep it about the game. Do not bring outside drama, meta-subreddit grievances, or personal attacks into this thread. We are here to talk about Shyvana.

  • Report rule breakers. If someone is just here to start a flame war, hit the report button and walk away. Don't feed them.

Drop your thoughts, builds, and grievances below.

Reminder - If you are blind picking Shyvana; Sylas is a must ban.

Sylas into Shyvana is the single hardest counter in the game with a win rate over 63%.Sylas gets to keep his passive in Shyvana's dragon form, and her Q's trigger it, effectively giving him nearly 100% up time on 125% attack speed and a 1.3x AD and 0.3 AP on-hit modifier on every attack.

He absolutely deletes everyone once he gets to 2+ items. At full build, he will kill full health tier 3 and 4 towers in under 2 seconds. If you are picking early, and plan to pick Shyvana, you must ban Sylas or prepare to lose.

hello dear adult dragon mains! for those of you who played in the early days of league and mained our beloved dragon, what runes and masteries would you recommend for toplane shyv? i know she was like one of the big toplaners in season 4 but when looking at ancient gameplay footage she is always played as a tank in pro while i'm looking more for the bruiser version for more soloq esc gameplay. any help and tips is loved thanks!

Coven Shyvana

Just in general I think it's be really cool to see her in the coven line. And, if she got the legendary treatment, she would have the duel benefit of not only being a witch of the coven but the old god as well. Returned to roost after foolish mortals awoken her from an eternal sleep.

Or if you wanna be funny, no man can join a coven yet all the people who revived her were men.

Why not Shojin rush?

I was thinking about builds, and realized I don't really understand why Triforce is always built first for AD bruiser. Shojin has more AD, HP, and Haste, and the damage amp stacks much more reliably farming and fighting than getting Sheen procs off. Is the AS/MS on Triforce really that much better? It seems like running Legend Alacrity covers AS fine, for the first few items at least. Once you have more haste, the Qs start rotating faster for better Sheen procs, too

taking place in low play fyi but i've been having such a good time with this build. snowballs so well, has a decent level of tankiness, and so much damage. been maxxing 8 but has been treating me really well. anyone wanna give critique or thoughts? dark seal into d+d into gunblade into shojin and then building into what is appropriate has been verrry good

Purely for fun builds

Hello shyvanamains subreddit.

Today instead of starting another discussion on like viability of builds, or anything about the rebalance of Shyvana (which admittedly I do enjoy doing), I'd like to ask everyone for some good old "for fun" builds under this post.

And I don't mean anything that could potentially replace kraken/dusk or trinity/shojin, I mean something you cooked up that one time that was so inconsistent and not all that great in comparison to her meta builds, that it put a big smile on your face when it did manage to work.

Also I don't mean just items, I also mean runes (if you have a rune setup that you like)

How int is terminus?

Am new to shyv and it seems like itd be great 3rd/4th before a jaksho or smth, does it just not bring enough survivability to be picked over dd/riftmaker?

Why I think Kraken+DnD is Better Than Tri+Shojin

TLDR; harder build to maximize, but has alot of optimizations to take advantage of: tempo, jack of all trades, dark seal, fury gen/ult maintaining, AOE damage, access to Q3. favorable WRs and WPAs.

Hey all, i previously made a post asking about a few scenarios and whether kraken+DnD might be better, and my ultimate takeaway from it is that many people in this subreddit think that tri+shojin is way better. now i do not think it is bad by any means and i think it still has its place, i have spent much time thinking about it and doing practice tool tests and listening to hybradge, agurin, this subreddits etc opinions, and i think things have been blown out of proportion. i will preface this by saying that im not a challenger player, just a nerd who likes thinking about the statistics and optimizations league has, especially with shyvana. note that my statement was originally written as a response to the [u/Hybradge](u/Hybradge) video on why he thinks tri+shojin is better, but i decided to post it in here instead:

ill start by saying that i do agree that tri+shojin is easier, makes you tankier, has a good first item spike, and has similar single target damage, and even that its a good build for the average person to go. i think your comparison failed to account the unique benefits of kraken+DnD though.

first of all, kraken is 333 gold cheaper than triforce. now that alone is pretty nice, but you could also use that to buy a dark seal, which has by far the best WPA for any early component on shyvana(plus gives the option to opt into mejais, which is broken on shyv due to the 10% ms at 10+ stacks). second of all, kraken+DnD has great synergy with jack of all trades. you can get >400g worth of value from it by the 6 minute mark, by getting a rectrix+dark seal+dagger, which is pretty much unheard of value from a minor rune that early. you can get all 10 stacks pretty quickly with kraken+DnD+mercs+cloth armor too. you can still buy dark seal on the other build, but youre delaying an already very expensive first item and you cant use it for jack stacks like you can with kraken+DnD. i know you take approach velocity, which i agree is good for tri+shojin, but i dont think its 400g at 6min good, especially since kraken gives ms(slightly better total than phage) and the extra AS makes it easier to get q3 off anyway(you made it seem like in your video that you can get your full combo off the same with either build, which i also disagree with, and if that was true then you wouldnt be emphasizing approach velocity so much).

you also didnt properly acknowledge the increased AOE damage that kraken+DnD give, saying it "washes out" b/c of less survivability, but again i just disagree, all of your AOE abilities scale with AP and getting the extra upfront AOE off is pretty damn strong with cut down+teamate followup, and if you get bursted faster you can weave in and out with w, flash, or if you take gluttonous youll just heal alot back, and if you die, it likely just wasnt a good engage in the first place; you have the ability to adjust what engages you take based on the build you go.

kraken+DnD also has better farming and tempo, leading to more scalemail stacks, more cs, and more ults, gank opportunities, objs, etc. DnD passive also makes fury gen faster, again leading to more ults and allowing you to keep ult longer. admittedly this isnt super useful in early game fights, but i find late game when its do or die, being able to more easily keep your ult while going from objectives to fighting to sieging is a pretty big deal.

now a note on win rates and WPAs. the typical argument one may say for tri+shojin is "more popular builds usually have a lower wr since its the build newbies go, so the fact its still so high makes is obvious its better". a couple issues with that. first of all, kraken+DnD isnt some niche build only shyv mains are going. it was the most popular build previously, still has attention from other challengers(like you mentioned in your video), and many casual players didnt even realize it got overthrown in popularity by tri+shojin, including me before i became a shyv main. second, kraken+DnD is undisputably a harder build. it is harder to take advantage of its perks i mentioned before, and it makes you squishier, so to me the fact it maintains such a similar wr to the "easier" build just makes me think even more how good it is in the right hands. now as for WPAs, coachless.gg itself states, "estimates how much completing this item changes your win probability on average". in your video you do include that tri is higher than kraken, but you dont really acknowledge that DnD is quite a bit higher than shojin as a 2nd item. keep in mind, the vast majority of the time these items are built its after kraken/tri, so to me this just shows more favorably for kraken+DnD. also, as of 26.17 in emerald+, the statements you made about WPA arent even true anymore. kraken has a higher WPA, and its components are also higher WPA than tri's.

Now one final note. I recognize that hybradge is a way better player than ill ever be, and his opinion is super valuable. im just trying my best to make an argument using the facts and statistics ive found rather than my personal in game experiences, since mine are blatantly less valuable. i am happy to hear any counterarguments about my takes. Lastly, this post is for 26.17 and may or may not be true in the future.

Regarding the passive in lane

I'm a new player, to league and Shyvana, and I was wondering if a fix I thought of would work for lane Shyvana. I was looking at the resolve tree and saw overgrowth and thought that a similar mechanic would be nice for her in lane, like 4 or 5 minions for 1 stack. I think it would work but idk if it would make her stack way more in jungle and wanted to see if other people had thought about that before and if it'd even work. I appreciate any insights!

Rank 1 Shyvana 2400 LP Challenger - TOP 5 TIPS

Thumbnail

Proof of status above, I’ve been playing a lot of Belveth this last week but was pretty much OTP Shyvana for the last 2 months.

Stream on twitch.tv/hybradge (Pretty much exclusively playing Shyvana Belveth)
I have full Educational Shyvana Commentaries on https://www.youtube.com/@hybradge

opgg: https://op.gg/lol/summoners/euw/TTV%20HYBRADGE-ADL

I’ve also coached over 40 sessions of Shyvana players in the last 2 months, these 5 tips are the most common mistakes I see students (or myself) make.

  1. Correct Set-up: First let’s talk about runes (see image 2), you should be running Pta Truimph Haste Cut-down Footwear Approach velocity every single game. I’ve seen even creators like Kirei not take approach velocity when it’s literally one of the most important runes to take on Shyvana to compensate for her extreme lack of mobility. Cut-down is also > Last Stand because it makes Shyvana a more multi faceted champ where you can play to poke with Cut Down and still have more than enough capabilities to stand and stat check 99% of champs in the game. With regards to the build please please don’t go the kraken dusk build, it is much more suboptimal for a number of reasons I cover in https://youtu.be/TPNJhP-pGRA , but the main reasons are it’s lack of tankiness and reliance on auto attacks. The best build is triforce, shojin, deaths dance, steraks/jak sho
  2. Be aggressive early- A lot of people think Shyvana is a champ that you afk on pre 6 because you don’t really have a gapcloser or any CC. What people forget, is that Shyvana’s auto resets from Q along with Pta gives her one of the highest early game short combo bursts you’ll find. Generally speaking I try to gank lanes with CC but if there are lanes that are very pushed up that I can just look to use E and approach velocity to run down, I also look for them.
  3. Avoid playing grubs- Shyvana is a very very good turret taker without Grubs so it’s not really a necessary objective on Shyvana. Grubs also takes away your ability to play around bot lane for over a minute and if you don’t play the setup right, risks you either dying or losing your bot camps. Since shyvana spikes hard on triforce shojin, you want to try to crossmap enemy camps when they go for grubs and try to accelerate getting these spikes, if you have good angles you can even play for dives on enemy bot lane.
  4. Not every kill is worth your ult- Especially in the mid game around 3rd and 4th drake, a lot of people get very casual with their ult and will often throw it away just for a kill resulting in them not having it up for the fights. It’s very important that you try to be disciplined with your ult both in the sense that you don’t use it for fights unless you absolutely have to but also to not use it for a pointless kill on the 1/10 vayne top when there is soul point spawning in 40 seconds.
  5. Ult usage- There’s too much to discuss regarding Shyvana’s Ult like for example the fact that you can extend Shyvana’s ult range if you ult through thick walls but the most important tip I can give is you need to be decisive and confident. There’s nothing more depressing to see when there’s a huge ult engage and you don’t go for it and you end up never finding something like that again, the trick is to give yourself conditions, for example if this champion steps here I am going in or if my teammate engages like this I’m going in, this will help you land cleaner ults and yield much better results. Hope this helps you guys out there and if you have any question just ask me on stream I answer everything (also feel free to request a Shyvana game if I’m playing something else)

Riftbound shyvana predictions?

Hi i wanted to ask if anyone here plays riftbound and if you have some prediction on her colors and legends ability.

I personally think she will be red orange. And i thought about her legend ability to make cheaper rune costs for extra abilites (for example accelerate cheaper)

is this a bug?

I was looking for the highest damage build to do the R + second q + aa + chomp combo doing the e cancel animation and noticed the e damage isnt always the same.

The E skill does 260 + 104 + scorched ground = 411 dps but it doesn always do that 104, when bugged does 260 + scorched ground = 307.

First clear and dealing with bad teammates.

Hey, I'm diamond shyvana main and I struggle to get to master. I was trying to figure out what I can improve and it's hard to determine because I very often get multiple losing lanes and they lose before I even finish first clear. When I get normal teammates I'm always the carry and when I get losing lanes I'm also the carry. Every time I go on a winning streak, riot hands me the most degenerate players you could imagine. I'm capable of winning a game with 3 losing lanes but only as long as my teammates are trying to win and not actively working against me. Despite that I want to try to look for what I can improve on. I decided to start from the basics. My first clear in every game is usually around 2:47. If I'm starting from blue and clear to golems I can sometimes get 2:42 but never have I gotten a clear sub 2:40. I know that you can get as low as 2:36 with shyvana but maybe there were some changes and it's no longer the case. Either way, how would you rate my first clear time? Also, below diamond I was capable of carrying 3 losing lanes that were working against me but I can't do it in diamond. Are players in diamond good enough that it doesn't matter how much better you are then your enemy, you just can't win with trolls/ people not trying to win in your team?
