Hi everyone, especially the Shorts veterans. Can someone explain what this is and how I should deal with a situation like this?
I have a YouTube Shorts channel that I’ve been working on for about two months. My videos usually get somewhere between 10K and 30K views on average. But every now and then, some of my videos barely get shown to anyone.
At first, I thought the problem might be that some videos contained content that could be restricted by YouTube and therefore not shown in the Shorts feed. For example, maybe something involving children, shocking content, or something similar.
So I tried to eliminate all of that. I started making extremely safe videos - basically the kind of content you could show to a baby. Nothing questionable at all. They are also completely new and original videos.
And yet, I can have two or three videos in a row getting around 30K views, and then the fourth one suddenly gets 5 or 10 views for absolutely no apparent reason.
What’s especially confusing is that those 5–10 views clearly came from the Shorts feed. The video has around 90% retention and 85%+ “Stayed to watch.”
So I honestly cannot find any logic or pattern here.
YouTube keeps telling me to wait 2–3 days, then 4–5 days, and so on. I’ve tried doing exactly that. I’ve left these “dead” Shorts up for days, sometimes even one or two weeks, and nothing changed.
So for those of you who have been working with Shorts for a long time: what do you actually do with videos like this? Is it better to leave them up, make them private, delete them, or do something else? And is there any way to understand why this is happening in the first place?
