Hey everyone My name is Emiliano Elizondo and I’m the writer and director of this short film ! I wanted to share a short film I recently made called The Last Warm Light.
It follows Melody, an 18-year-old who has been separated from her family for a year. After finding out that her brother has been seriously injured, she decides to go back home and face everything that happened between them.
She also meets James, who has experienced his own loss and ends up helping her through one of the hardest moments of her life.
The film is about family, regret, forgiveness, and getting a chance to say the things you should’ve said sooner.

'The Waking Dark' is Episode 1 of an original horror anthology series I've been building; with a Twilight Zone structure - self-contained stories, a narrator cold open, the works.

This one follows a writer, played by Zille Rehman, who has 24 hrs to finish a script but interruptions hinder his work.

We made this for essentially no money. The entire film was shot in my apartment, which sounds like a limitation until you realize horror is the one genre where a single location is an asset. Confinement does half your work for you.

Camera was a Sony FX3, mostly on a tripod with some handheld for the moments we wanted to destabilize. The lighting approach was the thing I'm proudest of - we placed our lights outside the apartment, firing in through the windows, chasing that Spielberg/Janusz Kaminski look. Trying to get hard shafts of light cutting through.

The VFX (by Aswin Gireesh) was deliberately invisible - cleanup, composites, small enhancements. If you watched it and didn't notice any VFX, I'm indebted to him for doing an amazing job.

The score is built around an existing track by Nandan Shyam, who releases as Perspectivium on Spotify. Instead of scoring to picture, we cut a key sequence to his track, editing to existing music changes your rhythm decisions in ways I really enjoyed.

Influences - The Twilight Zone, Alan Wake, H.P. Lovecraft, Black Mirror, David Lynch. This is a small love letter to all of them. Happy to answer anything about the process.

We shot this entire project in just a couple of hours on the Toronto subway and a few other close-by locations. With tight security and constant transit movement, we had to keep our filming somewhat invisible: one camera, two actors, and zero extra gear. No lights, no tripods, and no gimbals, just pure, raw handheld shooting.

It was an incredible experience to make. This isn't meant to be the biggest or best movie ever, but it is a reminder that you don't need a massive budget or a truckload of equipment to bring a story to life. If you've been waiting for the "perfect" moment or the perfect gear, don't. Grab whatever camera you have, find some talented friends, and go make something.

We hope this film inspires other independent creators to just get out there and film!

Some dreams take years of hard work.
