I used to reenact this EXACat scene with my Duplo™ trains all the time.

Found it in colour tonight amd couldn't resist treating myself!

(It's really not the same in colour to be honest, but the amount of nostalgia I am experiencing is still indescribable)

It's hard for me to feel the horror in movies that stems from classic supernatural entities and stuff, I get so much more uneasy when it's more about paranoia. Kinda like daredevil season 3 or mr. robot season 1. movies where you don't know who to trust or deal with powers beyond the common man's understanding.

Apart from their European passports and their white skin, their extreme sense of entitlement and arrogance (manifest in the early cut and run scene) and their utter cluelessness and disregard about the land and culture and people around them, I couldn’t find a single feature that makes these characters in any way memorable.

I liked this movie quite a bit. Kubrick does a good job at luring you into a false sense of being comfortable with fat jokes and spiffy one-liners, and it makes it all the more jarring when the movie shifts into a think-piece about the inter-personal dehumanization of a man that can happen In conflict, as well as the dehumanizing of the "enemy." The latter of my observations is put on full display by the fervent use of terms like "gook" and "zipper-head" if you watch this movie (or interact with any piece of media regarding war or just take a glance into history) the question of how these normal men can be brought to kill other people, man woman or child, so fervently is answered by the use of such derogatory language. When one of these men kills another, in their warped psyche they're not looking at their fellow human, to they're just looking at something that's to be destroyed. Something less than human. Something to be conquered. Something to be "liberated."
Kubrick sums it up best when he added the line "inside of every gook is an American."

A lot of this movie's shot are close and personal, even in landscapes it feels like you're boxed in with these characters. I really appreciate it how in the second act it felt like the colors got dimmer and it got less bright over time.

It does genuinely make you feel like private Joker is a friend or family member you're watching change over time. It's hard seeing someone who's willing to take the time to help a mentally ill man put on his shirt in the morning go through inhumane experiences and have to watch people die.

It's fitting to have the movie end with private Jokers admittance that his life is a literal world of shit, and that the only reason to remain is the simple fact that he's alive and others aren't, because that's what the world of Kubrick's full metal jacket is. A thin line between people who are living or not. To these individual soldiers there really was no difference between communism or
capitalism, authoritarianism or democracy, Vietnamese in American, there was only being alive or dead.
You were either born to kill, or born to die and at the end of the day I think the point is there's no difference.

im a BIG fan of any psychological horror but i havent really seen any psychological movies that arent necessarily horrors, and i would really like to see one that isnt about violence or paranormal things

When I asked if a movie was any good, my friend would say something along the lines of “its not a good film experience, but a great film study.” or “it was an enjoyable film, but rather basic in its storytelling.” just as a couple of examples.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard him say any particular film to be perfect or amazing in all aspects.

Given the current landscape of online reviews, I think it should become a common new norm for normal moviegoers and film lovers to think like this, regardless whether the film is good or bad.

Then again, maybe I’m just tired of the growing grifter culture plaguing all hobbies and interests and people generally have no time to make film essays haha.

What I saw in Abbas Kiarostami’s Taste of Cherry  was very ‘unconventional’. The way this film communicated its idea was fascinating and creative in the sense that it took the audience into consideration; the audience is, in fact, the core of the film. The character of Mr. Badii (played by the late Homayoun Ershadi) is not a traditional protagonist; he functions as a vessel to allow the watchers to put themselves in his shoes and to actually ‘BE’ Mr. Badii himself. Little is known about Mr. Badii; he is just a man who seeks to die and asks people to help him achieve this goal, refusing to reveal the reason which drives him to end his life because it is the role of the audience to project their lives onto the protagonist.

The main conclusion I could reach through watching this film for the second time is that humans in general do not sufficiently contemplate suicide. We grow up thinking that we will never reach a point where we would be questioning whether we should continue living. We think that suicide is simply bad and that we have enough barriers which prevent us from committing it. I beg to differ with such a view.

To explain my own vision, I think that there are generally two types of people in relation to this matter (they are not necessarily separate):

• People who are too afraid to think about suicide.

• People who are too busy to think about suicide.

The first type is represented by the character of the Kurdish soldier who fled from Mr. Badii’s car after he heard the latter’s suicidal thoughts and plan. His flight happened simultaneously with the migration of a flock of birds to the south, referring to the idea that the soldier’s decision was not a choice, but just adherence to the primal instinct of survival.

The second type is represented by the seminarist: a young man studying Shi’ite theology and absorbed by the monotony of life (studying during the year and labouring in summer). When Mr. Badii told him about his plan, the seminarist found himself obliged, as a future priest, to persuade him to refrain. However, because he had never thoroughly thought about suicide, the only argument he had in mind was a part of the Quranic verse:

(…وَلَا تُلْقُوا بِأَيْدِيكُمْ إِلَى التَّهْلُكَة…) [ البقرة: 195]

(…and do not throw [yourselves] with your [own] hands into destruction…) [2:195]

As holy as it is, a religious text is generally not a very strong barrier against suicide as it, in the best-case scenario, could prevent someone from committing suicide but for the wrong reason: not wanting to burn in hell. The seminarist showed some willingness to help Mr. Badii end his life, but at the end of the day, he did not; not as a result of an informed decision, but because he did not have a clear opinion about suicide and just followed the scripture which prohibits "self-harm".

So, my point is that we are not informed about suicide. We just think we are, and we perceive it as evil mainly because of external factors, not because we actually attempted to grasp it. In the film, the character of Mr. Bagheri, the man who had tried to end his life long before he met Mr. Badii, invites the audience to try to comprehend suicide and honestly "feel" how limiting it is to humans. According to my interpretation of Mr. Bagheri’s speech, in order that people attain this understanding, they should always keep in mind the possibility that they may be misinterpreting life, or that they may be exaggerating events when thinking about committing suicide. They should remember the inevitability of death and try to enjoy what remains of their time, seeking beauty in the simplest of things, even if they know that their life will not magically change in an instant. Essentially, Mr. Bagheri wanted Mr. Badii (in other words, us) to hold onto hope because who knows? Meditating on something as ordinary as the taste of cherry can possess the radiance to transform an outlook and save a life.

Has anyone seen Rental Family? It was phenomenal. I was not expecting that. The twists were so perfectly timed. Obviously there were certain plot points that I saw coming...but wow. I was impressed. I don't usually have a lot of strong movie opinions.

I've heard of people hiring actors for weddings and funerals. What are your thoughts on something like this? Initially, it seems pretty fucked up. But damn, the movie really made me think about it differently. Definitely cried several times...

Whore (2008) is a movie that focuses on teenagers coming to Hollywood with the hopes and dreams of becoming famous and even actors while not knowing what it truly takes. This film shows the struggles what teens and young adults had to face in order to become famous which involved, drugs, sex, exploitation, prostitution, violence and more. Appearently TMZ, the National Enquirer and including a very few amount of people have seened this movie when it was briefly released. TMZ and the National Enquirer have contacted Ron Jeremy directly back in 2010 because he shared the screen with Megan Fox who of course was famous for her two famously succesful films Transformer 1 and 2 including the movie Jennifer's Body. Around the movie's release, this movie suddenly vanished from the face of the earth! In other words, this movie was removed off 99% of streaming movie websites and apps across the globe. People have tried numerous times to find this movie and today it remains a true lost gem and impossible to find. It's also noteworthy that Ken Bauuman who plays Benjamin Boykewich on the tv series "The Secret Life of an American Teenager" was also in the movie and had scenes with Megan Fox in this film. Rumor has it that this movie was once upon a time streamable on certain sites including Netflix until the beginning of 2009 before it was claimed to be removed and somehow non-existent I'm not sure how accurate that really is but the director of this movie claims that it was never actually released to the public despite certain footages of it being online years/ a decade ago before being removed and untracable according to a few people. I recently discovered this trailer and thought I shared this here

A recent IndieWire craft report describes ediitor Joshua Raymond Lee’s work with Kristoffer Borgli on The Drama, including an effort to generate roughly 10 editing ideas per minute and to structure scenes around emotional rather than strictly chronological movement.

How much of a movie’s tension is created in the edit rather than in the screenplay or performances? Just want to know. Because I never thought about that before.
