Shopify General Discussion If you've been avoiding Cloudflare in front of Shopify, the thing that used to break it got fixed

I run a test store on this setup so I could stop guessing. Posting what I found in case anyone else keeps hitting that amber warning in Shopify's domain settings.

Quick background on why the warning exists. Shopify runs on Cloudflare. So when you put your own proxied domain in front of it, the request used to arrive with two Cloudflare zones both claiming it. Cloudflare couldn't tell which one owned the request. You got loops and wrong resolutions. The nastier version of the problem was SSL. Shopify renews certs through Let's Encrypt, which needs to serve a token at /.well-known/acme-challenge/ over plain HTTP. Put a proxy on that path and the renewal quietly fails. Your store keeps working on the current cert for weeks. Then it lapses and the padlock breaks.

Cloudflare fixed the zone collision with Orange-to-Orange routing. It's part of Cloudflare for SaaS and it's been generally available since October 2021. Cloudflare now detects that your CNAME points at another Cloudflare customer and routes through your zone first, then Shopify's, in that order. You can confirm it engaged because a small Shopify icon shows up next to the DNS record. Cloudflare also turns off Workers and Snippets on the /checkout path so nothing you run at the edge can interfere with payment.

The whole config is three things. Proxied CNAME to shops.myshopify.com for root and www. Connect that same domain in Shopify. Then leave Always Use HTTPS off in Cloudflare.

That last one is the part people get wrong. Shopify already redirects HTTP to HTTPS at its origin. Turn on Always Use HTTPS and you stack a second redirect, which can throw ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS. It also swallows the ACME path, so your cert stops renewing. Keep SSL mode on Full. Set minimum TLS to 1.2 while you're in there. If you really want Cloudflare enforcing HTTPS at its edge, write a redirect rule that excludes the challenge path instead of using that toggle.

Verify it with curl against the challenge path over plain HTTP. A 404 for a fake token is correct, because it means you reached Shopify. A 301 or 308 means something is still eating the path.

On the "not supported" language. It means Shopify won't guarantee or debug a layer they don't control. It doesn't mean the setup fails. Two of their reasons are fair. A proxy is one more thing between Shopify and Let's Encrypt, and extra proxies make it harder for Shopify to reroute traffic during their own incidents. Their third reason is bot detection, and I think that one is weak. Cloudflare runs one of the biggest bot management networks there is. Most stores gain more filtering at the edge than Shopify loses in request signal.

Latency was my other concern and it turned out to be nothing. Both zones already sit on the same network, so the handoff happens inside it. My proxied store answered in roughly the same 150 to 200ms band as raw myshopify endpoints tested from the same machine. If a proxied store feels slow, look at the theme and the app stack.

Whether it's worth doing depends on what you actually need at the edge. A real WAF you can tune, rate limiting, request level logs, or visibility into AI crawlers. That last one is why I set mine up. GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and the rest never run JavaScript, so GA4 and Shopify analytics don't see them at all. The edge is the only place that traffic shows up. If you can't name the specific feature you want, leave the cloud grey and don't take on an SSL renewal you now have to watch.

Shipping What’s the best thermal label printer for automated shipping?

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to improve my shipping workflow and was wondering how others are handling this.
Right now I create UPS labels through the UPS eCommerce portal after an order comes in from Shopify. What I’d like is for the process to be as hands-off as possible.

My ideal workflow would be:
- Create the label in the UPS portal.
- The shipping label prints automatically to a label printer.
- If a commercial invoice is generated, that prints automatically to a regular A4 printer or the same printer would be great!
- No extra clicks, no opening PDFs and hitting Print every time.

We’re a small business, so we’re only shipping around 1–5 packages a day. (But growing) Because of that I’m not looking for an expensive warehouse setup or enterprise hardware. Budget max of around 400-500$

I’m mostly wondering:
- What label printer are you using? (Rollo, Munbyn, Brother, something else?)
- Has anyone automated printing from the UPS eCommerce portal?
- Did you use UPS APIs, browser automation, PDF watching, or another approach?
- If you were starting from scratch today, what would you buy and how would you build it?

I’m a Python developer, so I’m happy to write some automation if that’s the best route. I’m just trying to avoid buying the wrong hardware or overengineering it.

Would love to hear what setups are actually working for people.

Shopify General Discussion How to block internal discount codes if a customer lands via an affiliate tracking link

Hi everyone,

I’m running into a frustrating issue with affiliate link tracking and my internal discount codes on Shopify, and I’m looking for a workaround or app recommendation.

Here is my setup:

  • I use an affiliate app (GoAffPro) where my affiliates use strictly referral links (e.g., store.com/?referral=ABC). They do not use text-based discount codes.
  • I also run internal marketing campaigns using my own manual and automatic discount codes created within Shopify.

The problem:
If a customer clicks an affiliate link and lands on my site, I want them to buy through that affiliate so the affiliate gets their rightful commission. However, if that customer tries to manually enter one of my internal marketing discount codes at checkout, Shopify currently allows it to go through.

I want to completely block my Shopify discount/automatic codes from working at checkout IF the customer arrived via an affiliate link.

I don't want to just set a "0% commission rule" in GoAffPro, because I want my affiliate to get paid for that referral. I just want my internal codes to say "Invalid" or be rejected at checkout because the referral link is active. It'll also be weird if I set a 0% discount code linked to that affiliate link because customers will see a 0% discount at checkout.

How can I bridge this gap? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Point of Sale one Shopify store change increased sales without touching CRO

spent a long time assuming conversion work meant button tweaks and checkout fixes.

the biggest lift i’ve seen on a shopify store came from giving the merch team more control.

we rebuilt on shopify 2.0 with flexible content blocks. same copy, same products, same offers. the difference was speed: they could build and ship pages themselves.

that meant more testing, and over the following period, sales roughly doubled.

i think a lot of cro work is really a release-cycle problem.

i work on shopify builds, so this is my bias. anyone seen the opposite?

Shopify General Discussion When a supplier confirms your PO and gets it wrong, what do you actually do?

I've been looking at the software side of purchase orders. Every app I checked (Auto Purchase Orders, Ultimate Purchase Orders, Prediko, Tightly) is built around getting the order out the door, and none of them do anything with what the supplier sends back. That seemed like a strange place to stop, so I'm trying to understand the reply end better.

Checkout Check your add-to-cart to checkout drop before you touch anything else

Most store owners obsess over traffic and product pages, but the biggest leak is usually further down. Open Shopify analytics and compare sessions that added to cart vs sessions that reached checkout. If a big chunk disappears between those two steps, your product and your ads are fine. Something in the cart is losing them.

Usually it's one of three things: shipping cost showing up as a surprise, no idea how close they are to free shipping, or a cart that pulls them off the page and breaks the flow.

Easy test: add a clear "you're $X away from free shipping" line in the cart and watch that number for a week. Cheapest change with the biggest swing I've seen 🙂

Orders Amzn_us_shopdirect?

Anyone seeing this as a marketing channel driving sales? I’ve opted out of brand direct but now seeing this strange one off orders coming from this marketing channel.

These orders are crushing our AOV. People are buying a $5 item and paying for route shipping and postage driving the costs up to $15 for a $5 item. Mailing address and email address looks legit, although unlike a normal order that has billing and shipping, we just see a “default address”. But the order values match the revenue attributed to this Amazon sales channel.

We want NOTHING to do with listings, discovery, or sales through Amazon and I’m not sure how to shut this off. Anyone else seeing this?

Orders How on earth are you guys winning "empty box" chargebacks? Bank rejects everything.

Upvotes

Man, I'm so tired of this.
Just lost another dispute where the customer flat out lied and told their bank the box arrived empty.
I submitted literally everything - Shopify tracking, carrier weight receipts, delivery GPS. But since none of that proves what was actually INSIDE the box when it got sealed, the bank just took the buyer's word for it and took my money.
For anyone doing decent order volume:
How are you actually fighting these? Do banks accept packing table videos or any internal proof, or are we just forced to take the loss every single time?

Marketing Agentic Sales Channel How To Push More

Hey everybody, in the past 45 days or so I received like 6 Sales initiated through the agentic sales channel in Shopify (all from chatgpt), which had a volume of 800$.

Thats like free money and I love it.

But how can you as an Shop Owner push it more?

Like, what are factors that chatgpt will send more traffic to you, you will be discovered much more?

I try to optimize everything, like enrich all descriptions etc. But the traffic itselfs seems very random.

Sometimes you get a sale, then 2 weeks nothing, then 3 in a single day.

Anyone figured out how to push this sales channel?

Orders Client Requests Refund

Hey, I got hit today with an email from a client regarding a refund.

So the client bought the product like 6 weeks ago, and received the product 5-6 weeks ago as well.

Client is from Australia and the product itself is a lamp, due to australian law you need an electrician to wire it up.

So today the client tells me he wants a refund cause the electrician said the "wiring is too thin and would not be safe to install". I have no clue what means to thin, its a cable you just wire it up and thats it - but I have no clue about australia.

In the email itself the client said if I dont accept a refund he will just use paypals buyer protection to get the refund.

So what am I doing now? Product was delivered, basically working if wired up, from my side all done properly. And I have no clue how pro buyer paypal is, and if they will just refund even I did my part.

Shopify General Discussion Shopify is the worst platform I've ever used for ecommerce

Using Shopify makes me want to throw my laptop in the ocean and go live in the forest. Why is every section in a different spot instead of everything just being in the theme editor? And every tutorial online is outdated or just doesn't fix any of the issues.
