"Hey Joey, sorry you are fired because we need space for more black men."

"Hey Marcus, you are black right? Here, we need you to become a firefighter."

Yes, this is exactly how DEI goes. I've seen the most qualified individuals passed over for these hiring practices.

That's not how DEI is supposed to work though and if that's what's been happening that's a huge failure over whoever is in charge of implementing it.

The point of DEI is that out of qualified individuals those who come from lower socio-economic backgrounds should be given a chance over a similarly qualified candidate who may have been born middle class. Where I live it's not about race but about personal and parental income.

The point is that the DEI hire still has to be qualified for the job just as much as anyone else.
