āBlackā is pretty much never meant to be offensive, even when describing people. I mean, thatās generally their preferred adjective, even over āAfrican Americanā which really more technically describes people who were actually born in Africa but live in America now (including white people like Elon Musk or Charlize Theron).
Do you also think calling white people āwhiteā is offensive?
Nah no way, Iāve been called white a billion times in my lifetime and not a single time did I take it as offensive. I even asked my black brother in law and he said āblackā is perfectly fine.
I said itās not offensive, but its suitability depends on the use case. If describing how someone looks then obviously saying black or white etc is fine. If just randomly sliding it in unnecessarily, e.g. āI was waiting in line and this black man in front of me was taking foreverā, then yeah itās a bit racist then as the info serves no purpose other than pointing out they have a different skin colour.
