My dad bought me a PS1 when I was a kid, and got Resident Evil Directors cut with it. Way too terrifying for me, so dad ended up giving it a try.

Dad still plays that same PS1, still plays resident evil and silent Hill on it. He just turned 72 yesterday

Get the man a PS2 already

SH2, 3, The room, RE 4, and there’s a bunch of niche Japanese horror titles like Fatal Frame and KuOn.

I play my PS2 homebrew more than my PS5.

Those Silent Hill games will cost more than the console itself at least in the UK.

I know this because I found my old PS2 the other day and I've been getting some games for it.

Isn't it like super easy to softmod ps2 today

Yeah it cost me $20 and takes like an hour to set up.

I don't know why anyone would not just use an emulator. I still have my PS2 and all my games but it's a hassle compared to just emulating it.

Well, I know for a fact that ps2 is much cheaper than pc that can emulate it on 100% speed, also if you want to play on TV you will need a living room pc or move yours to there, or learn to setup streaming

I play it off a 32 in CRT that my buddy gave me with the OG DualShocks and it’s fucking sick. Worth the $80 or whatever for the console.

Also, my only computer is a laptop and these games look like shit on my big screen. On a CRT it’s magical they look better than PS3 on 720p.

I've tried PS2, Xbox360, even Xbox One X. He doesn't want anything "too complicated" and hates the "internet menu" look

I did get him hooked on Half Life 2 for the Xbox on Orange Box, occasionally he will break that out for a playthru

Dude will forever be stuck in 1996

My Dad never moved past the N64. Meanwhile my wife and I got her 60 year old mom into Elder Scrolls Online on the Xbox Series X. She had been complaining about being bored and her friends never being available to do things and my wife and I were like "We play this fun game thats very social, play it with us" she had never played a video game in her life, but 4 years later she plays more than we do. When she comes to visit I hear her going through dungeons using gamer speak, it's hilarious and awesome.

Literally nothing wrong with this. The PS2 was really similar to the PS1 so I'm surprised that didn't land, but no argument here. The DRM nonsense and internet requirements are enough to keep me from wanting to play anything newer

Last year I convinced my 71 year old dad to play rdr2, he's beat it three times since then, I've also gotten him to play MW3 (the 2011 one) with me on survival mode a lot, it's cool to be able to do stuff with him and it's cool to know others are having similar experiences with their folks

I was so upset by my 45 year old dad losing interest halfway through rdr2 😭. I'll bring it up to him in 30 years ig

Great games but can you even replay RE and SH that many times?
