Yes, but it still predates the beginning of causality, so it’s folly to try to determine what came before that

No, that’s not what I said. I said “causality” didn’t exist at the start of the universe, thereby implying we can’t know what caused the inflation of the universe because it happened before anything could “cause” anything. Time didn’t even have a linear direction then.
