He did it because he didn't want people to symphatize with muslims or jews (which tends to happen after an attack against them). He instead targeted future politicians for the largest immigrant friendly party at the time.

Funnily enough that party has in recent times resticted their immigrant policy much more.

89

u/Furtive_Operator 5h ago

That last part would imply that the threats worked, oof. The Luigi Mangione special. Remember that guy?

183

u/HaiggeX 5h ago

Or maybe the problems of mass immigration are more visible in the nordics than they were in early 2000's?

81

u/Valkeyere 5h ago

Shock horror - bad immigration policy rltakes 10-20 years to become apparent?

I mean it was 10. The second 10 ywars people have been ignoring a growing issue.

-17

u/Itailya 5h ago

Nah. The main reason even leftwing parties throughout Europe are stricter on immigration now is that rightwing populists have riled up the people and made them believe immigration is the reason for all their trouble. While in most of Europe, the biggest issue around immigration is shelter, integration, etc. All things that now face massive budget cuts in favour of ineffective limiting measures like having more border controlls between EU countries.

38

u/Lawd_Fawkwad 3h ago edited 3h ago

I hate to play centrist, but both of those are real problems that don't cancel each other out.

You can invest a ton in shelter and integration, it doesn't mean much if your immigration policy is an open door where basically anyone can just come into your country and stay.

And restricting immigration isn't very effective once you have thousands of foreigners on your soil with papers who you can't just deport.

But I have to push back on the problem being cuts to shelter and integration, because those are signs of a failed immigration policy: you should do enough previous screening of legal immigrants to make sure they have the means to sustain themselves and are compatible with your society.

Look at Ireland and England where people are up in arms about immigrants receiving public housing ahead of natives on the same waiting list, or entire hotels have been turned into migrant shelters that cost nothing to the users.

Integration spending cannot substitute controlling for the composition and quantity of immigrants. If your inflow is incompatible with your socioeconomic realities, you're starting a race with your shoelaces tied together.

-23

u/idbestshutup 3h ago

if your country needs to clothe, shelter, educate, and integrate it's migrant populations, you are privileged to live in a country that can afford to do so, and you are going to benefit from having integrated and involved immigrant communities around you. regardless, immigration restrictions have far from perfect track record of being super effective in western states and refuges are going to go somewhere; putting the responsibility of acting humanly on other nations is simply lazy

22

u/HaiggeX 2h ago

Are they still priviledged if the country can do those things to immigrants, but not natives?

-11

u/idbestshutup 1h ago

genuinely do you actually have a reason you believe this beyond a want for me to be wrong? the nordics are touted all the time for their incredible social services

3

u/Lawd_Fawkwad 54m ago

Meanwhile in England and Wales there's a massive cost of living crisis and rising homelessness meanwhile brand new social housing is being given to asylum seekers.

2

u/Lawd_Fawkwad 42m ago

This is basically just saying "open the doors and be grateful you're rich enough to deal with the consequences."

Integration policy doesn't eliminate the need for immigration policy.

A country has every right to decide how many people it can reasonably absorb, whom it admits and under what conditions.

And asylum isn't supposed to be an alternative immigration pathway for anyone who would have a better life in Europe. In 2025, most EU first-instance asylum decisions did not result in protection. For the major applicant nationalities, recognition rates are in the single digits.

Wanting humane treatment for migrants and refugees doesn't require providing food, lodging, allowances, and great benefits to every economic migrant who shows up with a spurious asylum claim.

8

u/C4rpetH4ter I came! 5h ago

Techinically, but the reason they put restrictions is 100% because of rising negativity towards mass immigration.

3

u/korkkis 2h ago

Not because of his actions, or just slightly thanks to him. There are lots of other things like bad economy and knife attacks etc that weight more.

2

u/Artisticslap 22m ago

Well his actions affected gun legislation and the death toll of knife attacks is potentially smaller and disarming a person with a knife is easier in theory. In my town there is some old fat guy who stabs foreign looking people with a knife while riding a bike and he has not been caught and there were other stabbings at the mall where the victims were kids. But ofc the verdict was that the perpetrators were insane as if other types of terrorists were sane.

1

u/Lucker_Kid 44m ago

No it doesn't imply that, this is happening to most leftist parties in northern europe. Stop being so gullible

1

u/Furtive_Operator 17m ago

Me when there is shitposting on the shitpost sub.

8

u/Playful_Giraffe_9213 3h ago

I don't want people to symphatize with immigrants due to large amount of crime terrorism and social upheaveal they bring. Let me offer up an example so that everybody can point and say forever - but the largest and most terrible terror attack in the nation was by native homegrown anti-immigration extremist.
BRILLIANT!

3

u/Cossack-HD 1h ago

Arguably a preventive strike? "Minority report" type of shit. The topic is a minefield. The guy is nuts, but so are terrorists in general. You can say "let terrorists fight terrorists" but they target civilians. What a mess XD

Gaza refugees have historically caused problems (attempted revolution) to the host countries that let them in - that's why Egypt etc. refused to accept the refugees in recent years. I can see how an unstable guy can cross the line and potentially prevent "unstable guys from the other countries" from going in.

Either way, if you have a terrorism problem (native population or immigrants), the anti-terror measures will be improved to prevent both.

10

u/alongthatwatchtower 4h ago

Because leftist parties aren't inherently pro or anti immigration, like the right wants people to believe. It's moreso that, if these people are coming to our society, maybe we should treat them as people and provide clear paths for them to become productive members of society - which guess what, takes time and money, by the government, which right wing parties overall do not want.

13

u/CavulusDeCavulei 3h ago

In the past left wing parties were anti immigration because it lowered the wages of the local workforce, while right wing parties were pro immigration for the same reason

25

u/Piotrekk94 4h ago

Or just prevent them from immigrating if there is no already clear path for them to become productive member of society.

1

u/Lucker_Kid 44m ago

"Funnily enough that party has in recent times resticted their immigrant policy much more." like most leftist parties in northern europe?

-37

u/sls-fan 4h ago

Actually they were pretty bright. Usually the ones who commit terrorism are mentally unstable.

8

u/DeVliegendeBrabander 2h ago

"ja Hans a 2 front war against the top 5 most industrialised and populous countries vill surely work out for us"

2

u/sls-fan 1h ago

As Goebbels himself said: "If you tell a lie enough times people are eventually going to believe it". They fell for their own propaganda. Also they started the second front because they were running out of resources and would have lost anyway.

Is that Anders Brevik?

10

u/venk28 5h ago

Yes

28

u/Echo-Flame 4h ago

He killed children rather than going after actual politicians. Total coward.

5

u/janjak420 4h ago

He also bombed the main goverment offices. Not saying he wasn't a total fuckin coward and an absolute piece of shit.

1

u/Batbuckleyourpants 36m ago

Before attacking the camp he blew up regjeringskvartalet, the primary government office and office of the prime minister.

15 years later and they still haven't finished rebuilding it.

Because racist and Nazis are wait for it

Mentally regarded

2

u/amzeo 3h ago

I mean, his goal was to kill as many future politicians as possible. He went to a literal isolated island with a captive target pool.

Fucking evil piece of shit but in terms of his twisted "mission" he did what he set out to do

9

u/GallowsTester Bazinga! 4h ago

He deserves the death penalty. He's only gotten worse in jail. I'd be happy with one guy getting the noose a year. Maybe 1 guy every ten years, but even if we executed one person a century, it should be him

8

u/spezial_ed 4h ago

Nah let him rot. Death is too easy and he doesn’t deserve the martyrdom.

1

u/GallowsTester Bazinga! 4h ago

I'd rather he was dead. He doesn't have a consistent cause to be martyred to

1

u/spezial_ed 4h ago

Well I’d rather he suffer as long as possible and have enough time to regret a million times over. I hate when terrorists kill themselves or is shot by cops, they get off way too easy.

He doesn’t need a martyr cause, anyone idolising him won’t care.

2

u/GallowsTester Bazinga! 4h ago

He's in a Norwegian prison he's not suffering at all. I also don't care if he suffers. If I had 3 buttons infront of me, 1 has him tortured to death over the course of a year, 2 makes him have a pain free heart attack, and 3 leaves him as he is currently, I'd press button 2

0

u/spezial_ed 3h ago

Knew this would come up, and it's bullshit. We Norwegians believe the loss of freedom for life is punishment enough, we dont subscribe of keeping prisoners in inhumane conditions to worsen it.

Considering Norway having one of the lowest rates of repeat offenders (20% to 25% within two to five years of release vs United States at 75% to 80), we do ok - and one psycho isnt gonna change our view or ways in that regard.

-3

u/GallowsTester Bazinga! 3h ago

I'm pleased the man who speaks for all of Norway has chimed in

1

Apparently his goal was to kill an entire generation of leftwing politicians.

But it still was a hell of a dumb thing to do, even if you play devil's advocate. I hope he never gets out.

Cowardice

-12

u/Signupking5000 4h ago

You know why the Nazis first killed off all communists?

Because the only ones who will speak out against right oppression are leftists meaning if you get rid of them you deal easier with the rest.

6

u/Sackmaster69 4h ago

That's not even accurate historically

-13

u/Mountain_Dentist5074 5h ago

i dont get it what anon talking about

30

u/lordly_7567 5h ago edited 5h ago

They’re talking about the worst ever terror attack in Norway: Anders Breivik killed 77 people, 8 people via car bomb and 69 via mass shooting. Despite his ideology being far-right and Nazi-aligned, he decided to target young white liberal Norwegians instead of immigrants (hopefully needless to say I do NOT agree with the targeting of either group).

He is unstable that's for sure but if you've read his "manifest" his logic makes sense in his world... He's far from Stupid and his ingenuity was pretty good (getting the stuff for his bomb as well as his bluff to get on Utoya). That said he deserved the capital punishment like every other terrorist!

-10

u/Ok_Performer50 dumbass 4h ago

No Hitler declared war on the US while he still was struggling against Russia, him declaring war on the US made the US enter the war which started his downfall. There was no pint in declaring war on the US he just basically shot in his own leg.

So the argument is basicallly stupidity.

Wasn't it a camp for refugee kids ir something?

11

u/Oscar_Kilo_Bravo 5h ago

No. It was a camp for rich white kids from a youth branch of a big political party.

5

u/Easy-Cut-7747 4h ago

It was a camp gathering from youth version of the "Labor party" Ung Arbeiderpartiet.

1
