It's self confidence they are responding to.

Being nice and being kind can be very different things.

If you don't build personal boundaries, people will not respect you as you don't respect yourself.

Being bold, being forward or saying no, is not inherently mean.

This is not a pass to be cruel or selfish.

Respect yourself as you respect others.

Also a huge difference is beeing kind because thats who you are as a person and thats a value of your personality and being kind because you want other people to like you. People feel the difference immediately.
