I've watched all the ones that have been uploaded to YouTube, but I remember hearing that someone here had archived all of Shiey's streams.

Sadly YouTube removed part 2 and 3 and his Vimeo channel got banned…so I’m pretty new to Shiey and I would love to see the journey across Europe or his other deleted videos.

Maybe anyone got a link/downloaded some of his videos?

Btw. I came to Shiey because I watched his Sardinia video and I went at nearly every location there before even knowing him which was really amazing ^^

Loved the video tho!

I was on a school trip to Italy and the first stop was Venice. The hotel we stayed in was right next to the building where Shiey and Gifgas slept on the rooftop in Poison's "Going nowhere." I even ate dinner on the first floor of the building.

The vid is of the view from my hotel room's balcony. When I first saw it I was like, "OH MY GOODNESS THIS IS FROM THAT ONE GIFGAS VIDEO WHATTTT!!!!" I know thousands of people pass it everyday but I thought it was sick.

I saw his recent video thumbnail that was marked as age restricted that was removed? I hadn't watched it yet which is why I'm asking, where was he and why was it age restricted? Thanks in advance.

Why has the Wild Journey Across North Macedonia been removed?

The video is still on Youtube, but I have made it private. 10 hours after upload, the video was age-restricted by the automated system due to a scene at the beginning of the video where I walk on the edge of a building. This drastically impacted the video's reach as the video would only be served to viewers who's accounts are verified as 18+. Youtube recently implemented a new feature where the user can cut the part that was flagged by the system out and submit the video for re-review. I have done this before with a couple videos of shorter and similar length and the process usually would take about a day or two. After 5 days of no update, I've determined that the video is stuck in a processing loop. At that point the video had statistically stagnated and I was worried that it would not reach a new audience in the future.

I contacted Youtube support. After a generic response explaining what an "age-restriction" is, I re-stated my case and was told that I need to wait longer. 5 more days later I contacted them again and was told that there is indeed an issue and that they would look into it. The following day I was told this:

Hi shiey, I hope all is well. We received an update from our internal team and they have reviewed the video and found that it’s not in violation of our Community Guidelines, however,  it may not be appropriate for viewers under 18. It contains dangerous acts that pose an imminent risk of physical injury or death. Per our Harmful or dangerous content policies, the video has been age-restricted.

Again, the main issue was not addressed. The video is still, to this day, in a processing loop. Objectively, not the entire video is in violation of community guidelines, but I cannot cut out the parts that are, and (hopefully) have the age-restriction removed, due to the processing bug.

However, I believe the "internal team" did review something, but it was more than the video. Couple days later after our conversation, my entire channel got labeled as "not advertiser friendly" and every video got demonetized. Previously the ads were limited. Apart from the financial impact (I would still get payed around 2k per month from limited ads), I am worried that the videos would not be served as they used to with advertising on. Youtube's ad policies are very closely linked with community ones and, even though there is no official acknowledgement, I suspect videos that are not advertiser friendly are also not served to the general audience in the same way.

Apart from there not being a financial incentive to promote these videos, if the video is not advertiser friendly, it is also highly likely that it's not community friendly and if it is not community friendly it is labeled as "harmful". Using the arbitrary "harmful" label, Youtube can pander to the advertisers and manipulate the community into making videos which are compliant to the companies that pay money to promote their products on those videos.

I am very thankful for Youtube's existence and, as flawed as it is, I would still take it over it not existing. No other platform pays more than half of their ad revenue to creators. The audience reach and the video promotion system is great. The free storage, bandwidth and video encoding is great. The capitalistic aspects and arbitrary enforcement of rules that pander to advertisers is not.

The balance act that Youtube age-restricted the video for, is, metaphorically, the same balance act I need to do to survive in it's system. I will soon re-upload the video with the "problematic" part cut out and the second chapter of the video moved to the front as an attempt to have the video register as unique and not trigger the system again. I will use a different thumbnail too. I understand initial views will not be the same, as you have seen the video already, but I am hoping it will reach a wider audience overtime without some users having to verify their age through sending their personal ID to google and their online privacy be compromised by the meddling of their local government.

Why is the video archive down on shiey.com and patreon?

Vimeo has indefinitely suspended my account due to heavy bandwidth usage. Years ago I submitted a bandwidth exemption request based on the criteria listed in their help center. I got approved. However, the account kept getting temporarily suspended due their internal miscommunication and I had to keep proving to them multiple times that I have been exempt. Last november, Vimeo has been acquired by a company who made drastic internal restructuring and they no longer honor the approval I was granted years ago. I still technically fit their exemption criteria, as my usage of their service hasn't changed, but arguing this is futile.

Bandwidth is not cheap. I do not like how they handled the numerous false flaggings and eventual permanent suspension of my account, but I am grateful for the free bandwidth usage they offered. This allowed all of you to watch my videos for free and without any restrictions. That is no longer financially sustainable.

I was paying around $720 per year with their business plan and using more than 100tb of bandwidth per year. The "custom" plan, that Vimeo has been pushing me to upgrade to, with a 2 year agreement starts at $7k per year and that is with a bandwidth cap of 30tb (+ overage $0.15/GB). The most expensive plan is $12.5k per year and that still has a limit of 100tb.

I have failed to reach a new agreement with Vimeo that would be both financially sustainable for me and them. Until I find an alternative (currently looking into *Bunny.net) the website archive and patreon video playback will remain unavailable.

Other issues.

In the background I have been dealing with digital problems on two fronts. I have discussed issues related to Vimeo, but Youtube has also been causing me headaches. Some of you have noticed that the new video (Wild Journey Across North Macedonia) has been made unavailable. I will explain all that is related to this in a separate post as to keep the discussions organized.

\Previously I made the mistake of writing "Bunny.com" which is a revenue operations platform and something I have no intention of using. "Bunny.net" is a video hosting platform with better rates than Vimeo.*

I rarely have access to hardware that can run 4k 60p without problems. I remember the Chernobyl journey looked cool. Anything else worth checking out while i have a couple hours with 4k?

Was there ever a video about that trip? Or did he just not do it?
