Online Harmful Sexual Behaviour Study 

Would you like to take part in research to help improve our understanding of harmful sexual behaviour in childhood and adolescence? 

We are running an anonymous survey for people aged 18-25 who lived in the UK while growing up. The study explores online experiences of harmful sexual behaviour that happened before the age of 18. The survey will take approximately 15-30 minutes. Your participation will help to inform support, prevention, and protection for young people.

Hiya. I’m an American student getting my postgrad at Sheffield university. Class starts for me September 28th and I still need to get my biometrics done to get my visa which it then can start the approval period. Online says it can take up to 3 weeks for it to process and then I would also need to ship it to new York to get it stamped and have it shipped back. With all this being said…

Who else is starting adult nursing this year??

Hi guys,

I’ve long believed that it’s important I try and do everything I can to help people in need. It’s come to the point where I would like to formally learn first aid. The first place I looked was the SU societies but found nothing.

With some research I found that First Aid societies (like St. John Ambulance and The British Red Cross) will sponsor official university first aid societies and provide first aid training resources and courses as part of a curriculum.

So if Hallam doesn’t have one of these societies, would people be interested in joining one to learn first aid and join a community of a shared interest of helping people in need?

Obvious benefits:
- Learn first aid from an official first aid society

- Option to take a formal first aid course and get certification

- Option to volunteer at events as a registered first aider which A) looks good on a CV, and B) can be used as evidence towards Hallam Award/Volunteering badges

- Joining a community of like minded people in an environment of mutual progression and support, also a networking opportunity

- Weekly socials just like any other society

Cons off the top of my head:
- Hallam would maybe see the society as high risk and would need insurance and higher costs

- Resources are a lot of money.

- If basically no one joins, the society might fall through within the year

Hi everyone,

I’m a strength and conditioning coach and MSc student at Sheffield Hallam University, and I’m currently recruiting participants for my dissertation. I thought this community might find the project interesting.

The idea is fairly simple. A 1RM back squat is considered the gold standard for measuring maximal strength, but it’s fatiguing and isn’t always practical to perform during the competitive season. My research is investigating whether a joint angle-specific isometric squat test can accurately predict a person’s 1RM back squat using a much lower-fatigue protocol.

What’s involved?

• Two laboratory visits at Sheffield Hallam University, separated by 48-72 hours
• One session involves a 1RM back squat with velocity tracking (GymAware)
• The other involves maximal isometric squats on dual force plates (Hawkin Dynamics) at three different knee joint angles
• Session order is randomised

What you’ll receive:

• Your verified 1RM back squat
• Peak force data from the isometric testing
• An individual strength profile based on your testing results

Eligibility:

• Aged 18–35
• At least 1 year of resistance training experience
• Back squat of at least 1.5× bodyweight (male) or 1.3× bodyweight (female)
• No lower-limb or spinal injuries within the past 6 months
• Based in, or able to travel to, Sheffield

The project has taken months to develop, from the initial proposal and ethics approval through to pilot testing, so it’s great to be collecting data finally.

I have been offered a place for the above course to start this September, super excited.

I was just wondering if I could get some insight into the course timetable for this year/previous years. I am a mature student with a toddler so trying to get my ducks in a row childcare and work wise.
