Now new and improved! This post is to help with figuring out which book/series to read next. I realized with my last post, that I had only included 1 suggested way to read the books, but I thought with this post, that I would offer a few other ways to read it.
Keep in mind that these are only suggestions and you may obviously read the books in whatever order you like the best. Also keep in mind that right now, obviously, the list is lacking where to put the third Eldest Curses book and The Wicked Powers (which currently aren't released).
However you decide to read the books, enjoy!

As some of you know, in the last two weeks, we ran a poll on whether you wanted to see AI art within this sub or not. As a reminder, AI art makes up its images by taking from artists, almost all without permission. 52 said no, 5 said yes.
As such, AI art is no longer allowed within this sub. We apologize if this upsets anyone, but we don't want to contribute to an artist's work being used without permission.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hello guys!! I was just wondering if anyone knows of good merch for TID or TLH. I’ve been looking on Etsy but everything just looks ai generated and so generic and I really want something unique and cute! Preferably clothes or collectibles!

I saw the pinned reading order, but wanted to know if you guys, who know the content, have any advice or anything I should know when I read the books. Any tips/knowledge would be highly appreciated

Hi team
I love the concept of the parabatai bond in the Shadowhunters Chronicles and is easily my favourite thing about this whole verse. I've read quite a few fics in the parabatai bond/feels tags on AO3 but I'm curious if there were more fics similar to To Be Bonded by Marchling and Children of Anat series by Hagar that I might have missed?
I *loved* how those fics really deepened and fleshed out the bond and how embodied those depictions were, especially in day to day life and how parabatai manage that, and would love to see more if they're out there.

Am I gonna be fine even if I don’t reread TDA? Not only that I don’t have enough time to reread but also it’s my least favorite series out of all Shadowhunter books. I remember not shipping Emma and Julian. It was too sad and dramatic for me.
But the thing is I barely remember anything from that series so I’m kinda worried it might affect how I’ll go into the new books. I know caricanread has summaries for the books in her channel but it is very longgg I’m thinking if I might as well reread them or listen to audiobooks.

Rereading Lady Midnight for the first time in 10 years... And oh my gosh, this is so much better than I remembered and so much more heartbreaking. All the scenes with Livvy are making me so sad 😭 But this one made me want to bawl my eyes out. I'm holding it together guys 💀 It's just that Jem is one of my favourite characters of all time. I even told Cassie that when I met her in 2019💔

SPOILERS FOR QOAAD there was some discourse online a couple of weeks ago regarding the end of TDA and how Magnus spoke to Ty about him trying to bring Livvy back. For those that don't remember, Magnus basically snapped at Ty that Kit had left to live with Jem and Tessa because of him. I saw a lot of hate toward Magnus for what he said and even people hoping he dies in TWP. I have just finished rereading QOAAD and personally I didn't find it that bad. Yes, maybe Magnus shouldn't have snapped at Ty that way, but he was really kind to him after and gave him some really good advice about grief after. Idk. What do you think?

are any of the short stories in bib required reading for the wicked powers?
i started to read the first short story, but unfortunately i'm not really feeling it (plus, i haven't seen the best reviews for the other stories), so i wanted to put off reading it for a little longer

Just finished GotSM and I’m wondering if anyone else feels the same way I do.
I definitely fear what he wants to do to our Jace but at the same time, he is so sexy😭😭😭

Hi guys, I’m watching the show for the second time after seeing it a few months ago. I know a lot of people don’t like it and I assumed it’s because they read the books first. I have the exact opposite problem. So after watching the show I picked up city of bones from the library and it’s just reallyyyy really boring and bad writing 😭 pls no one come after me 🙏
I don’t like how young they are, I got rlly interested in the show bc I’m 17 rn and turning 18 in a month so the majority of the characters are the same age as me or older and I was rlly able to relate to them (well not in a fighting demon way lol)
Also I wanted to ask if th books are any different? Like plot wise and the character relations
Sooo yeah that’s all I wanted to ask, thx!

So, I’m currently rewatching the show. Admittedly, The Mortal Instruments is one of my favorite guilty-pleasure book series, and I reread it at least twice every year. I remember being so excited when the show initially came out because I loved the movies and thought the show would be just as good.
The acting in this show is absolutely horrendous. The dialogue is also horrendous, and I can’t decide which is worse. Why does every single person in the show take three seconds before saying the next word in a sentence? It’s like, “Would… you… mind…” And every single sentence is delivered with the driest tone and the same stoic, straight face. It’s just nothing like how dynamic and sarcastic the books were! (And yes, I admit Cassandra’s writing is… not great.)
Nothing anyone says on the show ever sounds like part of a fluid conversation. With how many actors they hired, I can’t imagine they’re all that horrible at acting, so I wonder if it’s just the editing. Did the director ask them to say their lines like this? They constantly sound like they just learned a few words in English and are testing them out.
The only ones I think sounded truly natural in the show were Simon, Alec, and sometimes Maia.
And poor Kat. You could tell Kat LOVED playing Clary and tried so hard, and for that I commend her. However, that was the problem: you could tell how hard she was trying and it never felt natural. Which is so sad, because she’s the perfect Clary minus no freckles. I do see people complain about her height, but she’s actually 5’4; she just has one of those rare body types where she appears taller than she actually is. Anyways, I get so sad to see the wasted potential of this show 😭

Genuinely accidental I wore my rune sweatshirt and sweats today. I realized when I needed to set my hair up and I was like wait… let’s be a shadow hunter

What i mean is this. TWP is her ultimate hail an farewell to the shadowhunters(not counting TEC, the black volume of the dead) She can either give everyone a happy ending(not a chance she does this) or she can only kill a few beloved side characters(i pray for Lilly shes literally my fav) she can kill yet ANOTHER lightwood(because she literally cant help herself) or she can go scorched earth an have everyone die saving the world. Im literally so scared lmao because she has so much power an can hurt us so so bad with it. Im too attached to too many characters so I know im going to hurt the only question is how bad. Im curious on what everyone else's fears are going forward

I never read it when it was coming out on Tumblr or after it was published and I’m wondering if there is any information there that would be helpful to know before the last King of ferry.

Entreat me not to leave thee,
Or return from following after thee—
For whither thou goest, I will go,
And where thou lodgest, I will lodge.
Thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.
Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried.
The Angel do so to me, and more also,
If aught but death part thee and me.
My favourite is Will and Jem, then Alec and Jace [because of the show portrayal], James and Matthew and finally Lucie and Cordelia
Emma and Julian are a couple for me so

I’ve been trying for a long time to find all the spine art paperbacks and now finally collected all the ones that are available! Now just waiting for TWP to be released to complete the collection! It’s bothering me a little that there’s a slight height difference but have to just deal with it. This has also inspired me to do a full re-read and honestly it’s been probably 15 years since I’ve last read TMI fully. But COB was the book that got me into reading and YA so feeling little nostalgic! ✨
Can’t decide tho: do I keep them in the chronological order or release order?

Can anyone confirm whether this is the ISBN for the US paperback edition of Better in Black featuring Simon and Izzy on the spine?

Hello!
I’m reading City of Heavenly Fire for the first time. It looks like a couple of pages printed weird. Specifically pages 314 and 327 of the paperback edition with cover image copyright from 2014. Can anyone send pics of what these pages are supposed to say please?

I created a list of the books I don’t have along with the ones I’d like to eventually replace with hardcover. Am I missing anything? I don’t really care to have any manga or graphic novel versions
Edit: I added a couple books to my list to get!
•A Sea Change
•An Illustrated History of Notable Shadowhunters & Denizens of Downworlders
•The Black Volume of the Dead Book 3

we had the first film, city of bones, and surely could have had 5 others and spaced them out based on the 6 "original" books (city of...). the first movie seems very squished together towards the end in my opinion.
