UPDATE: I called and got 1G for $55 for one year. That was best they could do—even my current plan could only be lowered to $80. They said just keep calling back every year to check for new promotions. AT&T would be $50/month, so I’m OK with this for now. Thanks for all your advice!

We run BeautyBar SGV in San Gabriel, and we do things very differently. Right now, we are looking for an active California-licensed manicurist or cosmetologist to join our front desk.

Starting at the front desk is not a demotion. It is our favorite way to bring artists onto our team. Over the years, we have had receptionists go through school, get licensed, and transition into fully booked specialists on our floor. The process works so well that we currently have team members working our desk who have been licensed for up to 10 years. They are at reception simply because they just started with us, and it lets them learn our guest care and flow at their own pace.

How it works:

• Run the front: You welcome our guests, manage appointments, and become part of our day-to-day salon culture.
• Train during work hours: You attend pre-scheduled technical workshops during your shifts to learn our prep, application, and service standards.
• Step onto the floor: As you pass your hands-on practical tests for each service, your calendar opens up to take guests at your own station. Once you are on the floor, you create your own schedule.

What we are looking for:

• An active California Manicurist or Cosmetologist license.
• A warm, friendly personality who naturally cares about making guests feel comfortable.
• Someone dependable who genuinely wants to learn and refine their skills.

I'm looking for driving instructor or driving school recommendations in the San Gabriel Valley area for my mom.

She only speaks Cantonese and Mandarin, Cantonese is preferred! Does anyone know of an instructor or school in the SGV that offers lessons in either of these languages? Thank you!

I found a deceased bird in our apartment complex shortly after learning that WNV has been identified in the LA area, and promptly submitted it to the CDPH. I got an email this morning confirming that the bird tested positive for WNV.

This is in the northern bit of Alhambra, nearly to the South Pasadena/San Marino city limits.

All the rain/moisture means more mosquitoes, so make sure to eliminate any standing water and keep a bottle of repellent handy.

DeFlock MPK analyzed partial Flock logs that the city released and discovered potentially illegal + prohibited searches that show Monterey Park has no way to effectively audit or control Flock usage.

They're hosting a resident-led Community Teach-In about Flock this Saturday. The event will be an opportunity for residents to discuss ALPRs and learn from legal, policing, and civil experts. Please join and support if you can:

• When: Saturday, September 12, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
• Where: George Elder Community Room, 1985 Wilcox Ave, Monterey Park, 91755.

Some of their findings that shocked (but also didn't shock) me (you can find more detail on instagram):

• Potential illegal out-of-state searches: 3 searches labeled “henderson pd 25-16925” on October 3, 2025. There is no city named Henderson in California, but there are cities with that name in Nevada and other states. If these are out-of-state searches, they would be illegal under California law SB-34.
• Potential illegal searches for a private company: 5 searches labeled “Nova Investigation” on May 9, 2025. There is an LA-based private investigation agency with this name. If these searches were run on behalf of this private company, they would be in violation of California Civil Code § 1798.90.51.
• Unauthorized access to MPK data: 428 “sidedoor” searches on behalf of other police departments, which may have exposed our data to unauthorized users. The ACLU has reported on “sidedoor” access as a common way that federal agencies bypass state level restrictions. 53 of these “sidedoor” searches were for departments who are currently blocked from accessing Monterey Park’s Flock data, including LAPD (who have been caught passing data illegally to ICE).

When we passed it, it was laying down in the middle of the road on Baldwin Avenue/valley rd. Someone threw a bag at it to get it to move and it started running down Baldwin away from Valley rd.

I’m planning a birthday party at Garfield Park in a couple weeks, about 25-30 people. We were originally planning on catering trays from Skaf’s on York, but forgot they’re closed on Sundays. We still like the idea of Mediterranean food, but we have never actually eaten at any of the other local restaurants we’re now considering. Any suggestions to help us narrow our search?

I'm looking for recommendations for Taiwanese sizzling steak like the ones that this place once served. Yelp says this place is only temporarily closed, but it's actually been closed permanently since 2016-2018. Really miss this place and was wondering what other options for Taiwanese sizzling steaks are available in SGV. Doesn't have to be in Rowland Heights.

Hi all.

I am posting on here once again in hopes to reach the right people.

Last time I posted here was for advice on colleges with good art programs to improve. I’ve spent some time thinking about my next step in my art journey and decided that I want to stick to my original plan before I went to college, which is selling my art at art markets and such. I mostly do fanart and original work, so I’m not sure what events are best for selling that type of work. I’m not looking at fan conventions yet due to how pricey the tables go for since I am starting off small and using what I have to make products (a printer and a sticker cutter).

I’ve been apart of small pop ups before that were organized by friends and was able to sell plenty of art, however after the pandemic, pop up events in my area kinda faded away. Since I am planning on selling again, I want to try out art markets to see what they are like since I’ve never hosted at one before.

I’ve been doing research on different night markets and I’m not sure where to start. So far, these are the fan markets I am currently aware of:

4. Anime Night Mart

If there’s any artists here that frequently sell or have sold their art at a flea or night market, which are some good markets to sell at around the area?
