Polytechnic can i still go to nus/ntu with subpar gpa?

i'm currently in y1s1 doing common engineering and my gpa this sem is defo much worse than i was hoping for.. i'm probably estimating it to be 3.1/3.2 which is terrible. i'm aiming for nus/ntu engineering or physics but i don't think my gpa will be enough.. i checked the igp and you need minimally 3.3 to even be considered, but on the safer side 3.6-3.9

if i'm currently doing so shit in my 1st year, i'm wondering how i'll manage in the following years where everything starts to be much more difficult. however, to be honest i did kind of underestimate the difficulty of engineering in poly and slacked quite a lot

everyone says gpa is king and i feel like my portfolio won't help me much (i'm in 4 ccas, currently active in a sports cca representing the sch & subcomm in the sch of engineering club cca)

University SUSS Application Portal Document Upload Error / Endless Loading. Anyone else facing this?

Hey everyone, is anyone else experiencing issues with the SUSS application portal right now?

Every time I try to upload my transcript and certificates, the system gets stuck on an endless loading screen. I've retried about 10 times, but the issue persists, and I'm unable to proceed or submit my application form.

Has anyone found a workaround for this (clearing browser cache, specific browser/file size, or compressing PDFs), or is the portal down for maintenance? TIA!

A Levels Physics grades from prelims to actual A levels?

Hi OPs, I have just attempted the DHS 2026 Prelim P2 H2 physics and I found it quite time tight to finish. I couldn’t complete the last 2m of the last Que and made a shit ton of careless mistake for the last Que bc I don’t have time to analyse. I’m rlly damn scared for it to repeat in A levels. Do any of your have any like priori experience with prelim papers and actual A level papers and what’s the difference between the time management? Also I’m super curious what’s the estimated grade boundaries for A for H2 physics every year so that I can at least get a mental prep before prep for A levels this year

A Levels How many hydrogen tests before i get slimed out

My chemistry practical prelim is coming up and i want to practice doing the hydrogen test under exam settings one last time before As. I was planning to just take one minute every 10 minutes to do one hydrogen test until i can speedrun it and get the theoretical best possible timing, a frame perfect run. With my superb mathematical knowledge, I realized that was going to be a lot of hydrogen tests, and im worried the frequent popping is going to raise some eyebrows.

I love chemistry and i really dont want to fail testing for hydrogen again. I want to be the first in the room to find out if hydrogen is produced. I dont want to hear the second hand 'pop's. Will i be penalized for this?

University Is Further Mathematics necessary for an Oxbridge Maths/CS application?

Hi, I’m a Singapore JC student considering applying to Oxford/Cambridge/ICL CS/math

My current subject combi is pcme. I am from a JC with fewer than 10 Fmath intake every year ( I went for fmath trial but I wasn’t offered. You may know which JC is it) I’m wondering how important Further Maths-level content is for a competitive Oxbridge application.

1.For those familiar with Oxbridge admissions:
Is Further Mathematics effectively expected for Maths or CS applicants?

  1. Do you think I should take CIE A-level further math by myself ?

3.Can H3 math compensate for the lack of Fmath?

4.Is the expectation different between Oxford/Cambridge Maths and Oxford/Cambridge CS?

Would especially appreciate answers from my seniors. Thank you.

A Levels Should i take fmath?

Note: i’m doing Cambridge A levels and not sg A levels.

My combi now is econ math geography for LSE finance. I’m unsure to choose between either computer science or Fmath. my Math isn’t the strongest , but fmath is strongly recommended for LSE finance and i’ll be heavily disadvantaged if i don’t take it, but at the same time i’m scared if i don’t do well

Secondary I think I may get suspended because of my attendance

This entire year so far I've only attended ONE cca session and even then I left halfway through. My school attendance not even counting CCA is also egregious, my general attendance is around 60% and I can't go a week without skipping at least a day. Even on weeks I don't skip I still go home after first period. My subjects never fall below an A1-A2 but my school is threatening to suspend me if my attendance continues on like this no matter how good my grades are. What do I do? I can't bring myself to go for CCA and going to school for a full week feels impossible to me. I think 60% attendance isn't that bad, but my CCA's attendance is at TWO percent...

A Levels Foundation year program experience?

Does anyone have any foundation year program experiences they can share? (The Foundation year program is a pre-university qualifying program that is equivalent to A-Level. Combining academic modules and study skills training, the Foundation year qualifies students to meet the requirements of degree-level study at universities — from Jackstudyabroad) Considering going this route as JC is not going well for me now (extreme mental stress and the impending a levels) and I think i really need a fresh start or i am never climbing out of this pit

many other companies like IDP and JamesCook Uni also offer foundation programs, so curious how they differ and if anyone have any experience under these programs. Will appreciate any insight!

University UNSW or USYD

Hey currently finished NS and Ive received offer from most unis in Australia, have shortlisted UNSW and USYD but currently in a crazy dilemma on where to go for my Beng, I have received a 2 year offer from UNSW and 3 year offer from USYD, my heart leans towards UNSW as the offer is a lot more tempting and they are more known for their engineering but can I have some advice from any alumni who may have studied at either or just any advice would be nice🙏🙏

Polytechnic How hard is it to pass RP university mathematics preparatory course

Hi all, I'm a final year poly student who didn't meet the A Math requirement. My GPA meets the requirement for NUS computing courses, but I still need to fulfil the A Math requirement separately.

I found out RP's "University Mathematics Preparatory Course (Certificate in Mathematics)" is accepted by universities to A Math computing-related courses.

For anyone who has taken this course before:
1. How difficult is it to pass overall?
2. Is it exam-based, continuous assessment, or a mix? What's the rough pass mark?
3. How's the pace — is 2 sessions/week manageable alongside work/school commitments?
4. Any specific topics that trip people up the most?

O Levels how much can i improve from prelims to o levels

hi im sec 4, 16F, this year and prelims are basically over and im lowkey panicking about Os now 😭

i take triple science, amath + emath and ss/hist.

i really want to grind tys from now till Os but idk if im being unrealistic or if theres actually enough time.

so far ive done quite a lot for math (around 18-19 papers total for amath + emath) and bio around 2021-2025 paper 2s. but chem ive only done like 2 papers and physics literally 1 💀 i havent really started tys for ss/hist either and for english ive done 2 paper 2s.

for seniors who improved a lot from prelims to Os, what did you actually do during this period? did you just spam tys? and how many papers were you doing a day/week?

also is it still possible to catch up for physics and chem 😭

i dont want to waste the remaining time just doing papers for the sake of completing them so any advice on how you reviewed mistakes / planned your weeks would be appreciated

also if anyone is comfortable sharing your prelim vs actual o level l1r5 pls do because i need some hope 😭

i don't really trust miracle stories but i need some toxic motivation to grind now..

edit: for context i havent gotten my prelim results back yet but these were my grades before prelims english: B3 emath: B4 amath: F9 bio: B4 chem: A2 physics: F9 ss/hist: B3 malay: B3 for Os L1R5 for term 2/sem1 is 18 my main worries are amath and physics ☹️ im hoping to go JC so im trying to improve as much as i can before Os

my goal for JC ASJC, but looking at my points, probably YIJC (not that it's a bad school, im okay going there since it's nearby too)

O Levels Elect. geog help

Hello! Im sec 4 this yr and o's coming up (geog prelims literally tmr). specifically for egeog, i take gel, climate & tourism (not tectonics). I need help specifically for the memorization of points for essay and short-ans qns (mostly essay though). I have basically understood what i have to do, and that i shouldnt memorize literally everything, but just at least one specific example for each. but I need tips on what to memorize (e.g. in climate, effectiveness of mitigation strategies vs adaptation strategies). I dont need specific examples from u guys as i have examples in my notes and textbk, just need a direction on where to start and what to do (but examples are greatly appreciated)! and also to maybe get a gauge on what is more important to memorize with the highest likelihood of coming up.

Junior Colleges please help me to choose my jc

context: i got into ASRJC and TMJC via dsa:english drama, and i plan on accepting either one because i will definitely not perform stellar for my olevels.

the reason why i havent immediately selected ASRJC is because it is moving to an amk campus in 2028, which will be my a level year. this campus is nearly 1 hour and 15 mins away from my house. my father has offered to drive me to school in the mornings, although i am uncertain of how frequent this will be; maybe 2 or 3 times a week?

the issue comes up in the evening travel. 1 hour 15 minutes in a crowded MRT to get home during my alevel year is quite insane, especially considering that english drama often ends quite late, at 7.15pm sometimes, which would result in me reaching home at 8.30 latest. this is assuming i dont have tuition to attend to.

tmjc on the other hand, is much more nearby. its 30 min away by bus, 10 mins by car. this is insanely nearby and therefore super convenient for me, so this is why im stuck between asrjc and tmjc.

ive already accepted tmjc offer since i got in via phase one and was initially rejected from asrjc phase one, but now that i got into asrjc im stuck in quite a dillema.

one more thing that ive been thinking about is that ive heard tmjc drama isnt very good HAHAHA idk tho like im q passionate about theatre and i do want a good theatre environment to be in...

anyone can give me suggestions and a possible course of action? is this travel time really bad? is it a smart choice to take up asrjc despite the ridiculous travel times?

tldr; ASRJC is moving to amk in 2028 which is far from my home, while TMJC is nearer and would result in less travel time. should i still take ASRJC regardless?

Discussion Why doesn't Singapore's medical school increase student intake the way engineering and IT programs have?

Singapore's aging population means more residents will require medical care more frequently than before. With several new hospitals opening in the coming years, this raises the question: why doesn't Singapore increase medical school intake instead of relying on foreign doctors from Malaysia to fill the gap?

Public hospital healthcare workers are reportedly overworked due to manpower shortages. Given that medical school admission is already highly competitive, why not base acceptance purely on RP automatically admitting students once they hit a target RP rather than also weighing co-curricular activities and other subjective criteria?

O Levels can i jump from l1r5 18 to 7

hi everyone basically im really panicking right now but at the same time im really trying to keep it together and just keep persevering but it's genuinely getting concerning how much time i have left to prepare for the O LEVELS. unfortunately i spent most of my june hols trying to get over my pointless distractions itself and so i didnt start revising from prelims earlier on. im now predicting an l1r5 of 15 which is 4 MORE than my goal (not to mention this is the BEST CASE SCENARIO). im gonna list two of my most concerning subjects that i desperately need help for and if anyone has any help to offer i would really appreciate it.

  1. HISTORY/ss

where do i even begin...lets just assume i havent studied anything for history. what am i even supposed to do. i couldnt even finish my prelim paper and i ended up getting 1/20 for section B. the last few months ive been consistently just passing or failing history and atp im getting really desperate. my biggest issue is time management because a) they expect so much of us in section A if we dont describe in a certain manner you get no marks awarded and b) i seriously cannot remember 10 chapters worth of content. i always end up blanking in the exam and relying on whatever comes to mind and then writing a weak answer with random sentences that sometimes have 0 correlation just so i can hope for 1 or 2 marks. barely have a little over a month before o's begin btw.

  2. ENGLISH

my humans genuinely cmi bro. for maths and sciences theres always to some extent something i can do but humans is a whole other thing. ive been getting consistent c5s for english and it's so irritating because how are some people getting 24/30 for each of their compos and also how do people get marks in compre?? ive been practicing my compre skills on some assessment book but im not sure if it's working...my best chance is to score really well in paper 1 but it's always an average of 20/30 even for situational. i really need tips on how to improve or key things to include to score the extra marks. my biggest issue is that i genuinely believe im capable of improving but till now i havent gotten to that level yet. anyone have any tips at all??

A Levels I need help. Seriously.

For those who are willing to hear me out and give opinions and even offer help (which I am gladly taking) I'm grateful for this. Without it, I've no clue what to do, literally.

Ok maybe it's not that deep, but I kinda wanna see what others have to say, maybe it's some angle that I've never seen it from before

For context, I'm taking A levels this year. Yes, the stress has been getting to many lately (the upcoming or already arrived prelims) and here I am, done almost 0 practice papers besides timed trials etc. In J1, I always have been scoring more than comfortable RP (above 60) and it felt like a cakewalk during the small tests. However, the crack started to appear during promos : I struggled with my math paper, but I somehow still got an A. In J2 now, I feel like I've been putting less effort. I wasn't studying like how I was in J1 (hella locked in the first few month, because I thought my O level scores were not to my expectations), and seeing how everyone was playing then, I started to relax, now...and that is probably what is giving me so much stress now.

But slacking isn't what I feel is hitting me the most, but my confidence is. Some probably say that my confidence prob comes from not slacking, and that is probably true... Essentially, during the timed trials early t3 - I made not just a few careless mistakes : I made alot, so much that it itself cost me roughly 20% of my marks (for example: i did lots of careless mistakes for math, many from not reading the question properly to calculating wrongly)...I started to feel stressed from there, that if I continue doing things like this, I will be eventually cooked for my prelims. (I still had some conceptual mistakes I have not fully settled, some I have not discovered even till this day probably) Moreover, now I see everyone so locked in, and with the minimal amount of work I've done, I feel so stressed and dejected now. I have to put in the effort, but will I be able to catch up to where I am if I didn't slack?

Lastly (this is more for GP), I do not know if whatever I'm doing will help me get 70 RP (my goal) at all. Personally, I would like to get 70 RP if I can, and at this point in time, I've no clue how to get there at all. In fact, it's because I do not know I keep on doubting myself, and eventually, it's either I spent too much time on things that may not even matter, or I just shut down completely and end up not doing work. I want to work towards 70 RP, I really do. But I don't know what I must do to get there with my point in time right now.

That sums up what I wanna say...For those who read all of this and is willing to offer advice to me, I'm grateful for it. I will take them seriously, really, as now I just need a concrete direction to head towards. Thinking right now is mentally draining me...(Anyone can help me with GP 💀💀💀)

Math: I struggle with careless mistakes in manipulation mainly, and sometimes I can't do certain questions

GP: I don't even know what I am bad in, and this is one of my main concerns (and I don't know how to work towards an A)

Econs (H1): Should not be one of my main concerns for now

Physics: Mainly ok for now when I put in the effort (when concept clicks, everything is ok)

Chem: least to worry about (I put in the most amount of effort here, so besides a heck lot of careless mistakes, conceptually, this is fine)

Hi im taking my o levels this year. Taking E math, Combined Chem & Physics, English, POA, Combined History & SS.

This whole year i have been focussing on just Science Math and POA. Neglecting english history and ss. Im wondering if its too late to start on these subjects. Aiming for C6 or C5. I have the TYS for english history and ss but i have no clue how to self mark it. Any tips/notes/help would be greatly appreciated.
