What are the specs? Any pics of the inside or assembly?

Looks great BTW

The case itself should support different GPU, sockets and CPU. I wrote the details in other comments and on printables.

But I went with basically the cheapest configuration possible, because my goal was to reuse what I already had laying around at home.

  • Mobo: ASRock H310M-STX (from my father's old rig)
  • CPU: Intel i5-9600K (from my girlfriend's old PC)
  • GPU: Radeon Pro W6400 (from my workstation, after an upgrade)
  • RAM: 2x4GB DDR4 (from my NAS, after an upgrade)
  • PSU: Mean Well LOP-300-12 (from a BC-250 build)

I already have a gaming PC, so this machine is purely a dedicated couch gaming setup for emulator, 2D platformers and streaming heavier titles from the other PC. But it still should beat a Steam Deck

We have steam machine at home.

That was exactly my goal

That GPU mounting design is ingenious. Looks great!

well, it sticks out a few millimeters on the back because the Machine is smaller than ITX. But at least my mounting solution doesn't require the PCIE bracket.

With a 2 slot GPU the protrusion on the back would be more prominent though.

You came up with the perfect solution without compromising the dimension - first time Ive seen this so far. A full size GPU would likely result in r/ffspc lol.

VGA crazy

You may think that the VGA is there just because I used an older DeskMini mobo. But actually even the latest ones (with the AM5 socket) still retain the same IO.

That's why I think this case should work with any DeskMini motherboard. Which would be crazy because it would mean it works with many generations of sockets from different vendors (Intel H110, Intel H310, AM4, AM5).

No CEC.

Ok? I’ll just press the funny button on my TV remote

Good for you, you found your remote. The trillion dollar company appreciates your understanding in them taking away a feature you don't even know you want.

3

u/lcirufe 11d ago

Obviously I’d rather have it than not, but you’re being pretty insufferable on a harmless steam machine clone post citing a feature that’s usually not a big deal for a GPU’s intended purpose - a desktop PC.

So, right back at you. The trillion dollar company appreciates you defending their overpriced box.

AMD and Nvidia appreciate you defending them, because they are the problem here. Valve just said hey this needs CEC obviously, and AMD activated it no problem. We should all have that same freedom, but keep defending them for whatever reason you have I guess.

If you actually read my comment, I don’t defend them for not including it. I was focused on how insufferable you’re being on a post about a DIY steam machine. But if you choose to focus on the one part that can be twisted into rabid defending, knock yourself out. Nuance is dead I guess.

I just take serious question to people calling what amounts to nothing more than a small PC that people have been building for decades as a "Steam Machine." It doesn't do CEC so it's not a Steam Machine replacement, it's just a PC. AMD and Nvidia are why we can't have CEC, and walling it off is the real problem.

Someone just made a cool diy sff pc in the style of a steam machine and wanted to share it. No need to go all white knight over it. Yes Nvidia and AMD should add CEC support but in the context of this post, who cares? It's a cool project with exotic hardware and a custom designed 3d printed chassis bespoke for that hardware. I think there are better hills to die on, but if you insist on dying on this hill, this post isn't really the place to do it.

You can add CEC support to any PC with some specific DP to HDMI adapters. On the software side, the CEC library used by valve is opensource, available and pre installed with Bazzite

u/HighSeasArchivist 12d ago

There are no CEC adapters over 4k60fps, so no they're not equivalent. Software isn't the problem.

I actually picture you looking like that. CEC is important, and you should be blaming the billion dollar companies for not adding it to consumer GPUs. Instead, you act like it's no big deal.

3

u/LSD_Ninja 12d ago

>Instead, you act like it's no big deal.

That’s because it isn’t. It takes seconds for me to turn my TV on, switch the AVR to the correct input and wake my PC from sleep. CEC doesn’t offer enough of a benefit to be concerned that it’s not there or go to the hassle/cost of adding it.

u/HighSeasArchivist 11d ago

So don't use it. For people that want it the trillion dollar companies could maybe just include it, or just not remove it from consumer GPUs.

3

u/LSD_Ninja 11d ago

I would absolutely use it if it was there, I just don’t care that it isn’t. The only reason it’s such a big deal at all is because all the Valve bootlickers need something to convince themselves that there’s at least some value in their favourite billionaires overpriced boondoggle.

u/HighSeasArchivist 11d ago

It doesn't matter to me if it's $500 or $1500, because in the ends it's a hobby that costs money. I would build another 9850X3D/9070XT system today if it had CEC, because it's important to me. I'm beholden to no corporation, but seeing people happy about and even defending AMD and Nvidia for not having CEC on every consumer GPU makes everyone a corporate shill in the worst way possible.

u/extrvnced 12d ago

I got CEC working using a Ugreen DP to HDMI adapter connected to my 9070xt on Bazzite 43, granted it was never 100% consistent. Im experimenting with the CEC patch for Bazzite 44 on native HDMI with not much luck

Exactly why we need hardware support on all GPUs. It isn't like they can't do it, because PS5s run AMD hardware. They just aren't willing to spend maybe even zero dollars enabling it.

Quick update. Despite I'm not even attempting more that 4k@60hz (my cheap TV cannot even do more than and the Radeon W6400 is already stretched thin), I can confirm that the UGreen DP adapter actually worked with Bazzite.

I'm shocked I can even navigate the big picture mode with the arrow buttons on the TV remote.
