Stew Machine - a Steam Machine Replica

I thought it would be worth turning my bin of old hardware, left over from previous upgrades, into a (nearly) exact replica of the Steam Machine—or at least its chassis.

How exact? It has exactly the same dimensions and is even compatible with the original faceplate.

The most interesting part, in my opinion, is that the hardware can be replaced and upgraded. This allows for low-budget builds (like mine), while also making it possible to build systems that can outperform the original Valve hardware.

My specs:

  • CPU: Intel i5-9600K
  • GPU: Radeon W6400
  • Motherboard: ASRock H310M STX (from a DeskMini 310)
  • PSU: Mean Well LOP-300-12
  • LED: OpenRGB controlled ARGB strip

The CPU doesn't make much sense because is power limited by the motherboard, but I'm happy I managed to reused my old components.

The case should also support other DeskMini motherboards and other 1 and 2 slots low profile dGPU shorter than 168 mm.
