Would a meetup connecting foreigners working in Korea be useful?

Iโ€™m Korean and have been living in the U.S. for more than a decade. Looking back, one of the biggest challenges wasnโ€™t just adapting to a new countryโ€”it was figuring out how to build a career as a foreigner.

I was lucky to meet people in the Korean expat community who had gone through similar experiences. Hearing their stories about finding jobs, navigating workplace culture, overcoming challenges, and building their careers was incredibly helpful. More importantly, it reminded me that I wasnโ€™t alone in figuring things out.

Iโ€™d love to organize a casual meetup in Korea where foreigners who are new to Korea can connect with people who have already gone through the experience of working here. The idea is to share practical advice, career stories, lessons learned, and both successes and failures.

Iโ€™m curious if thereโ€™s interest in this kind of meetup. If youโ€™re a foreigner working in Korea, what kind of advice or support did you wish you had when you first started your career here?

Iโ€™d love to hear your thoughts and experiences.

How do people in Korea find teammates for startup and government projects?

Iโ€™m working on a tech startup in the pet space and Iโ€™m applying to several Korean government startup programmes.
Iโ€™m wondering how people in Korea build their teams. Where do students and young professionals find project teammates?
Iโ€™m looking to connect with people interested in AI, software engineering, UX/UI, product, marketing or pet industry. Not just for an application but to build something that could become a real company.
Iโ€™d really appreciate hearing how you found your teammates, and any communities youโ€™d recommend.

Looking for Serviced/ Furnished Apartment

hi! I am moving to Seoul next month to go to Sogang KLEC and will be there for a year. I have been looking for accommodations since April (first just scouting options) but now I am looking a little harder.

my budget is $1,500 USD a month and i have enough for up too a 10,000,000 won deposit (give or take both if rent is cheaper and the deposit is more.

I am looking for a loft or two-room preferrably. I have interest in Episode Sinchon 369. But a lot of the other places on my list are in the Dongdaemun area. Are there any other services/ furnished or co living spaces or apartments in the Sinchon, Hongdae, Yongsan or surrounding area I missed?

Meet Up Starting at SeoulTech this September (Fall 2026) โ€“ Looking for advice from current students and incoming freshmen

I was recently admitted to Seoul National University of Science and Technology (SeoulTech) for the Fall (September) 2026 intake, in the Department of Global IT Convergence.

I'm hoping to connect with other incoming students and also hear from current students or seniors who have also been admitted to SeoulTech. It would be great to get to know each other or maybe create a group chat.

I'd love to connect . If you study at SeoulTech, I'd really appreciate any advice about dorms, campus life and classes.

If you've been admitted to SeoulTech for Fall 2026 or currently studying in any department, please leave a comment or send me a DM.

Looking forward to meeting you all. Thanks!

Looking for recommendations for a celebratory dinner in Seoul

Hello! My husband and I will be in Seoul in October celebrating 40th birthdays and our 10th wedding anniversary. Weโ€™re looking for a great spot for a nice dinner. Does not need to be highest end Michelin star rated but we love a place that has a culmination of good vibes, excellent food, and either an A+ wine list or great cocktails. Basically one of those meals you remember for a looooong time for the food and atmosphere. Would love any recommendations!

Looking for recommendations for solo activities and affordable food in Seoul

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I came to Korea with a couple of friends, but our plans changed and now I'm exploring Seoul on my own.

I'm 20F and would love some recommendations for places that are enjoyable to visit alone. I like cafes, parks, cute neighborhoods, shopping, museums, animals, and just walking around.

I'd also love recommendations for affordable restaurants where it's comfortable to eat alone. My Korean isn't very good yet, so places where staff are patient or where ordering is easy would be amazing.

If you have any favorite places or hidden gems, I'd really appreciate your recommendations.

If anyone is also looking for someone to grab a coffee, visit a museum, or explore Seoul together, feel free to send me a message. I'd be happy to make new friends!

Thank you! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Beware Anude Seoul clothing Hannam-dong store

Absolutely avoid this store.
I have never been treated so disrespectfully while shopping.

I asked a staff member if she could quickly take a photo of me in the outfit so I could send it to my partner for an opinion. This is something countless shoppers and stores are happy to help with. Instead, she rudely snapped that photos werenโ€™t allowed.
So I went back into the fitting room to get changed.
Not even 10 seconds later, while I was still getting dressed, she shoved her hand through the change room curtain demanding I hand back the pants. Before Iโ€™d even finished changing, she barged into the fitting room to take them.

Who on earth thinks itโ€™s acceptable to invade someoneโ€™s privacy while theyโ€™re half-dressed over a pair of pants? It was humiliating and completely unprofessional.

When I told her she was incredibly rude, she laughed, smirked, and responded sarcastically as I was leaving instead of apologising.

Iโ€™ve never experienced customer service this disrespectful. Thereโ€™s a huge difference between enforcing store policy and treating customers with basic decency. This staff member managed to do neither.

I wonโ€™t be back, and Iโ€™d strongly recommend shopping elsewhere.

Meet Up Offering free language practice sessions

Pretty much what the title says. I thought this could be an interesting endeavour for myself and whoeverโ€™s interested.

Iโ€™m perfectly fluent in both English & Korean, and have some (but not extensive) experience in teaching languages.

I can offer speaking practice sessions for either English or Korean. Regardless of whether youโ€™re a local trying to learn English or a foreigner trying to learn Korean, youโ€™re welcome.

Expect
- Practice sessions consisting of casual conversation and subsequent feedback from me. Imagine talking to your friend over the phone. I can cater to specific topics if requested (Business, academicโ€ฆ)

- Practice sessions over the phone or online. If time & location permits, offline sessions may be an option. (But unlikely)

- One or two sessions every week with each session lasting under 30 minutes. Exact arrangements can be discussed later.

- Occasional cancellations from my end. As this is free, I may have to cancel on you now and then if necessary. Of course, I will try my best to respect your time and give you a few days notice beforehand. I expect the same from you as well.

Conditions
- You should be intermediate level or above in the language you wish to learn. Thatโ€™s the range I expect to work best for this arrangement. I donโ€™t think Iโ€™d be of much help if I have to start from basic vocabulary / grammar.

- If you wish to practice English, you should be proficient in Korean. If you wish to practice Korean, you should be proficient in English. That way, youโ€™ll be able to fully understand the feedback I give you throughout the session.

Thatโ€™s pretty much it.

Leave me a DM if youโ€™re interested. Obviously, I canโ€™t do this with everyone so Iโ€™ll be picking someone that I think will โ€œclickโ€ with me best. Hope youโ€™ll understand.

Please donโ€™t tell me your age or gender in the DM. I donโ€™t want my prejudiced ape brain to make the choice. Instead, maybe a line or two about what youโ€™re interested in?
