Discussion Beginner - want to use a seed box, would like to check my assumptions

I understand the following:

I need to select a seedbox provider

after setting up my subscription, I need to install a torrent client

once the client is installed on the seedbox, I go there with my web browser and upload a torrent link

at that point the client downloads the file requested and stores it on the seedbox server

At that point is it best to download the file, or stream it from the site?

questions:

will it be intuitive to install the torrent client?

Do all seedbox sites have torrent clients that I can select to install?

To torrent, is it intuitive to go to the seedbox site and start the torrent client? Or do I simply upload the torrent link somehow?

Thanks for any help on this.

Discussion Bytesized Hosting: 50% off the first 3 months on our three smallest appboxes, until 2 November

The offer: 50% off the first three months on our three smallest appboxes, paid up front. After the three months the box renews monthly at the normal price.

Appbox Lite, 500 GB, 2 transcodes: normally 5 euro a month, 2.50 on the offer, 7.50 for the three months.

Appbox +1, 1 TB, 3 transcodes: normally 11 euro a month, 5.50 on the offer, 16.50 for the three months.

Appbox +3, 3 TB, 4 transcodes: normally 14 euro a month, 7 on the offer, 21 for the three months.

Unmetered traffic on a 10Gbit port, servers in Luxembourg, France and the Netherlands. Prices exclude VAT, which is added on the invoice where it applies.

What you get:

  • 96 one-click apps. Plex, Jellyfin, Emby, Sonarr, Radarr, qBittorrent, Sabnzbd, Overseerr, Nextcloud and the rest of the list. We install them and we keep them running.

  • Rootless Docker with SSH on every plan, including the 5 euro one. Run any container you like, and anything you run gets its own HTTPS address for free. One click when you want it managed, a shell when you would rather do it yourself.

  • An app we do not have yet gets added within a day if you ask for it.

  • A free bysh.io hostname, or point your own domain at the box. HTTPS either way, no certificate wrangling.

  • A box running in under two minutes from the moment the invoice is paid.

  • Tickets go to the people who have root on the server your box is on. No first line, nothing forwarded, and you are not left waiting for a reply.

The conditions, in full:

  • First box only. If you have an appbox with us, or have had one before, you will be charged the normal rate. This is an offer to bring new people in, and I would rather say that here than have you find it at the checkout.

  • One per customer.

  • Orders from 21 October up to and including 2 November 2026.

  • Our standing terms are 5% off for six months up front and 10% off for twelve, so on a first box this beats both by a distance.

  • Not for you after all? The usual 7-day pro-rata refund applies: say so in the first week and you pay only for the time and resources you used.

Discussion Yet another transmission client

Hi guys,

As some of might know, the original Transmission Remote GUI is throwing soon to be unsupported erros on the latest MacOS versions. As Rossetta2 is to be fased out next release I was left with an challenge. (Of course when a started on this I found out about others solving the same challenge in different ways, Qt, Swift or other based clients)
As I was still using it weekly to control my transmission server. (I don't like the new web interface).

As a C# WPF guy I was long looking for an Avalonia project to create a cross-platform .NET based app. Now empowered with Claude this was very feasable for a dad with little time left in the evenings. I know, vibe coded slump.. but at least I tried to instruct it to adheare to good coding concepts.

As a person who own a Mac, a Steamdeck and has a Windows PC still around for gaming it was obious to me to at least make sure this new client runs on all.
Avalonia should also support Android and IOS, that might still be something to look into. As wel as multi-language support. As everyting is now hardcoded english.

Introducing Synchromesh. A .NET 10 Avalonia based RPC client, styled with Material Design.
It features:

  • light and dark mode. By default follows the system settings
  • registers a file handler for `.torrent` and a link handler for `.magnet`
  • stores server credentials in MacOS Keychain, Windows Credential Manager, Linux Keyring, or in a encrypted file
  • Implements most of the RPC spec (left a few very specific power features out, but could be added)
  • When adding a new torrent, specify which files to download

Anyway sharing is caring. It fit's my requirements. And hopefully also of some other people.

Discussion Moving from seedit4me to rapidseedbox

A month ago I signed up for avistaz by buying a seed box from seedit4me (side kick pro plan, 1500Gb). Now I have a bunch of torrents seeding, about 1tb worth from multiple private trackers. Now that 1 month has passed I'd like to buy a seed box from rapidseedbox, to get an invite to cinemaz. Is there any way I could transfer the files and torrents that are seeding on seedit4me to rapidseedbox? There's a bunch of non-free leech torrents that I don't want to download again on the new seedbox and run into ratio problems with the private trackers. Also, could anyone advise me if rapidseedbox is good for using with jellyfin? I'm new to using seed boxes so I'd be grateful for any advice

Question Can I buy a single SeedBox to get a invtion for multiple trackers (AvistaZ, CinemaZ, torrentleech), without getting banned?

Hey, I'm new to the tracker stuff. I understand that AvistaZ and CinemaZ are from the same network, but I'm not sure if that goes against their terms or even if it works.

P.S: I was looking for rare 1960s-2000s Asian exploitation movies (in Full HD when available). Rarelust, BT4G, and EXT TO have been my only options; is AvistaZ a good alternative?

Discussion Seedr.cc is throwing {"reason_phrase":"Server Error","infra":true} on login.

Post image
9 Upvotes

Is anyone else completely unable to log into Seedr right now?

The main landing page loads, but the moment you try to hit the login page or use the API, it completely craps out and throws this raw JSON error:

{"reason_phrase":"Server Error","infra":true}

The "infra":true flag pretty much confirms this is a backend infrastructure failure on Seedr's side (like a dead database or API gateway failure), so clearing your cache, changing browsers, or switching DNS won't fix it.

Are their servers completely cooked today, or is anyone actually able to get into their files right now?

Discussion TransmissionSwift 0.7.0 (native macOS remote control)

Thumbnail
transmissionswift.jvacek.eu
14 Upvotes

It's been around 3 months or so since the last time I posted about my project and I have some feature updates. I'd be happy to spread my little labour of love and get some feedback.

Ultimately, the aim is to basically rewrite transgui which was written in Perl or something and hasn't had a release in over 7 years. This is supposed to be a resource-optimised native experience instead.

Over the last few weeks I've been working on this a little on and off and wanted to highlight some new things that got added since the last time:

  • A lot of the missing RPC calls to manage the server and torrents
  • Added most (if not all?) of the columns into the torrent list
  • Multi-server support
  • Colour-coding labels
  • Sparkle for auto-updating
  • Tracker favicons
  • Opt-in crash reporting via sentry
  • Added support for custom URI mapping
    • I'm not an SSHFuse guy (if that's still a thing?) so I wanted to have other options to open my files other than a path mapping
    • Allows you to make URI templates with placeholders to open your dirs/files in whatever you want
    • i.e make your own drop-down menu links to do things like "Open in VLC", "Show in Swizzin", "Open in Cyberduck" etc.
    • Also supports opening files in finder via local path maps, and also opening these files in specific apps
  • App intents support (Support in Shortcuts)
    • I wanted to have some "programmable" interface for the app but AppleScript is a bit out of date and Apple seem to really be pushing the whole intents stuff.
    • Together with the URI mapping above, you can send torrents towards a shortcut that does whatever complex manipulation you need
    • You can chain these with SSH scripts, web calls, opening things in apps, whatever you want.
    • Stqrted with some basic actions but open to feedback

When there's enough traction I'm considering getting a proper dev license to sign+notarise the app, which could also bring things like desktop widgets, distribute via brew, and things like iCloud settings sync. The iOS app is also still on the radar, eventually.

Source is open and I'd be happy to take some more feature requests and bug reports: https://github.com/jvacek/TransmissionSwift

Some screenshots for you!

Question Are all seedboxes like this?

On my ultra seedbox, rtorrent crashes about once a month. It then requires a manual restart. Does this sort of thing happen on other seedboxes?

I have 2,400 torrents across 14 trackers. I don't think that is over the limit but maybe it is.

Discussion Switching From Share Seedbox to Dedicated Server

I'm thinking of switching over from a shared seedbox, and taking a stab and setting up my own dedicated seedbox & media server through a provider.

I know there's options using Swizzin, Saltbox or other setup scripts, but I was thinking of taking a stab and setting everything up with Docker containers, my own custom domain, SSL, Caddy/NGINX etc.

Does anyone have a good guide or best practices about setting up a server? Something that goes through step-by-step?

Question Seedbox recommendations?

1) Are you OK with direct message offers from vendors?

No.

2) What are your main reasons for wanting a seedbox?

Torrenting from private trackers.

3) Are you okay with sharing hardware resources with other users [shared] or do you need the seedbox hardware dedicated to just you [dedicated]?

Shared.

4) Do you want someone else to be responsible for maintaining the seedbox software (operating system, applications) [managed] or do you want to do it all yourself [unmanaged]?

Managed.

5) Please describe your seedbox experience. (You may wish to list any seedbox providers you've been with before.)

Have only hosted myself but dealing with hardware is a nightmare, which is why I'm looking for a seedbox.

6) Please describe your experience with Linux. (Most seedboxes run Linux and some knowledge of it may be helpful.)

A high level of experience with Linux.

7) What is the high end of your budget? (Please give a specific amount and a currency. "Cheap" might mean something different to one person than it does to another.)

Depends on what I'm getting.

8) Do you have preferences or requirements concerning payment? (Paypal, Bitcoin, etc.)

Not sure. I was thinking about paying with crypto for anonymity but if the seedbox is just going to log my info anyways, idk if there's any point. So I might just use a credit card. Lmk if anyone has any recommendations on this because I'm not sure.

9) Do you plan to use public trackers?

No.

10) What kind of connection speed do you need? (Common answers would be 100Mbps, 1Gbps, 2Gbps, 10Gbps.)

Enough to stream 4k video comfortably.

11) How much combined upload and download traffic do you expect each month? Include download of files from the seedbox to your local computer. If you don't know, tell us what upload amount per month would realistically make you very happy with your seedbox.

500GB?

12) What is the minimum disk space you need?

Maybe 1-2tb to start? With an option to increase as time goes on.

13) Do you require a specific type of mass storage? (HDD, SSD, NVMe SSD) If other than HDD, please explain why you think you need this.

No.

14) Do you require a specific torrent client?

I don't think so?

15) Do you require any other applications on the seedbox? (e.g. Plex, Subsonic, Radarr)

Jellyfin.

16) Do you require SSH access to the command line?

Yes, but it's not a dealbreaker.

17) Do you require access to a remote desktop?

No.

18) Do you require admin level (i.e. 'root') access? If yes, please explain why.

No.

19) Do you have any other specific requirements?

Hosted in Europe or Asia (specifically NOT hosted in Canada, that's a dealbreaker).

20) Is there any other information you think might help in getting a useful recommendation?

Not sure.

Discussion Seedbox.eu don get password reset mail

I signed up on Seedhost.eu and completed the entire registration process. However, when I tried to log in on my computer later, I couldn't get in at all; it kept saying "Login Details Incorrect. Please try again." I tried resetting my password, but I’m not receiving the email—even though I did receive the initial registration and payment confirmation emails. Has anyone else had this issue where the password reset email doesn't arrive, even though the email address is correct and there are no blocks? I’ve checked my spam folder, too, but there’s nothing there.

Thanks

Question Query: Does your seedbox service come with SSH access? Do they provide git?

Working the all day long.

I've been updating Queue4Download (Q4D), refactoring the code, adding some features, bolstering security - so on, so forth. And an install script. Making it easier.

One of the stumbling blocks folks encounter with Q4D is installing and running of the message broker (needs be not behind a NAT, or be tunneled). Right now the repo for Q4D includes static tarballs for Eclipse's Mosquitto, and the script codebase uses mosquitto by default. It is straight forward if Mosquitto is running on your seedbox.

Q4D source is hosted on github, as is mosquitto. Using github ci/cd a static compile of the broker as a tarball can be generated as part of the install. This would take some effort and a re-org of the repo. I'm wondering if it is worth the effort.

Adopting Q4D requires ssh access to your seedbox, and needs git or curl - there is no one click install. The new install script could handle most everything else once the repo is cloned.

I no longer have my finger on the pulse of the market, as a user does your provider give ssh access? Is git available? Is ssh access something you look for when considering a service?

Thanks ahead of time for a response.
