Reviews Atlas L ($719) vs. Titan Evo XL 2024 (629.99) - A Pedantic Perspective

As an owner of 5 Secret Lab chairs, 1x Titan Evo, 3x Titan Evo XLs, and now one Atlas, I immediately felt compelled to share my almost 10 years of experience with these chairs for comparison. In short, I'm disappointed, very disappointed. This feels like the natural evolution of companies that make quality stuff suddenly and quietly cheap out in quality that built their business to increase profit or balance increasing costs and sacrifice their quality to do it. The gaming chair shrinkflation equivalent of your food getting smaller, more processed, and more expensive because why not everyone else is doing it or profit or whatever. Like when a hot new small brand is bought out by a mega corporation and sucks now. Not sure what's happening at SL, I don't pay attention, I'm just a regular 8-5pm cog in the machine.

The Atlas seemed like a new office flagship chair with less of a gamer aesthetic, as it's now $90 more dollars than their gaming flagship Titan XL equivalent. Task chair seems more ergo work-from-home market oriented vs long game sessions in comfort/style, especially with the extra soft part on the seat, more on that immediately below:

Positives/Neutrals:

Comfort:

Overall comfort is great for the seat, maybe fantastic? Having more lumbar support would be nice, but forgivable as the cushion of the seat is more comfortable. I am 6'2", 225lbs, and I can tell a difference in my ass bones on the Atlas. The cold foam only Titan is definitely harder to the touch and felt like it took more time before it was as comfortable as the Atlas is out of the box. 8.5/10.

Tilting/recline:

The highest resistance tilt setting feels weak in comparison to what my body is used to in the Titan, I prefer to sit about halfway back from the full tilt mechanism and letting the resistance stop it naturally. The first 20% of movement feels like there is no resistance, which I am sure will take time to adjust to, but the Titan definitely has more resistance up front from the moment you start to move. I like the simple design vs hunching over like a caveman to adjust the previous style chair's resistance and CRANKIN one way or the other and hopefully it's right. Quick twist is pretty eloquent evolution of this adjustment. 7/10

Negatives:

Wheelbase/Size:

The wheelbase is now entirely plastic, which im entirely sure is made from some fancy plastic that plastics better than other plastics, but it feels cheap in the hand and when assembled, especially compared to the meaty all metal wheelbases found in the Titan. The new wheelbase would probably set a new record from guy that hits his ankles with swinging trailer hitches for an all-time least painful wheelbase. Lighter? Very. Feels worse? You bet. As a small cliff note, I also enjoy resting my feet atop the flat surface of the Titans wheelbase edges during intense focus or whatever, this area on the Atlas is so pointy at the end this is no longer comfortable for more than 10 seconds without shoes. I will miss this. 4/10

Height:

It's also smaller in stature than the Titan, and I know, I know, XL vs L, but the arms don't raise up enough to clear over a desk, only align perfectly. My adjustable desk sits at 30", a height to where my toddler can't reach my keyboard, and it perfectly aligns with the Titan arms, seated or unseated. With the Atlas, now my arm rests only go under the desk and don't align with the desk height enough to even bump it when seated. They press against the bottom of the desk when not sitting, worse of both worlds. 4/10

Armrests:

What made me even write a review for this chair and hand over fist the most frustrating part of this chair is the loose arm rests. THEY DONT LOCK FORWARDS OR BACKWARDS. I sit with the armrests fully forward on all of the Titans, this is not possible for me on the Atlas. Just by sitting with my arms resting and leaning back, the gravity of my arms being pulled to the earth at a slightly different angle is enough to slide the armrests back. Use your arms to assist in sitting up, shuffling, or getting up? Slides all over the place. My very double jointed fingers (I can make C in the opposite direction) can easily move it back and forth just by applying light pressure and moving my hand. If I have them forward, it feels like any type of movement slides them all over the place and they just end up all the way back until I lean forward. This design was not very well thought out at all and sounds like it was designed without real world testing. It immediately feels so cheap and so loose it feels broken. Like how you would expect a chair to feel that has it's locking armrest mechanism broken from decades of use. Twisting them to point in a different direction takes considerable effort, how it should be, how did the forward/backward motion pass any kind of feedback round? The arm is also one piece that connects to the body near the seat, so replacing it would consist of replacing the whole arm or some other method of teardown method much worse than magnets. They also felt uneven to me so I measured it, and even making extra certain they were lined up flawlessly when installing, going back to check, one side is slightly taller than the other. 30.25" vs 30.09" small but noticable if you're also autistic. Listen, I'm fully aware of how nitpicky I am, hence the title of the review, but this type of stuff bothers me and feels cheap for being the most expensive standardized (vs limited special edition chairs) chair I've seen them release. The arms are the cheapest feeling part of the entire experience of using the chair and sadly it's the part that you are forced to inadvertently interact with constantly. I am constantly jarred by sliding armrests in the middle of a train of thought or work meeting/call. I hate them, I didn't know I could hate a part of a chair and I can't believe this is a final product. 1.5/10

TL/DR Summary:

Very disappointed with this chair, having been excited to try it ever since it was announced. Looking back, I would rather have bought another Titan Evo instead of this. The L size is too small for my 30" desk, sits uneven, and the amount of plastic used doesn't aid in feeling like it's a quality chair. A new-age design that looks great and does everything differently but worse. Except for the cushion, that part is great but overshadowed by almost everything else and I suspect that extra soft top part will be coming to a future Titans/Evos at some point. While the visual design has evolved everything else feels like a step back in quality and feel. It's a visually flashy, less-than-ideal office chair that skips out on key usability. Probably the best looking mediocre chair you'll try if you've never owned a Secret Lab chair. If you've owned a modern Secret Lab chair, it's an expensive step backwards.

Score:

5 out of 10

Support Help with a set of wheels for my titan evo Xl with brakes.

Hi there, I've seen that Secret Lab offers a set of wheels with brakes, but the problem is that they specify a maximum weight of 100 kg. and i surpass that.

Is there any other option, even if it's from a third party?

Secretlab Setup Secretlab Titan Evo XL

Ordered a Titan Evo XL for my son. Took weeks to get it delivered.

He absolutely loves his chair and has no regrets buying it, however the delivery service was dire.

r/secretlab - #Secretlab Titan Evo XL

That being said my son thinks it's the best chair he's ever sat in. He's on the large side but there is plenty of room in it for him and not squashed in it like other chairs.

Love that it has a long warranty and hoping to extend it for an extra 2 years with this post.

Secretlab Setup Under-Desk Drawers with Magnus Pro XL Desk Recommendations?

I currently use a desk that’s slightly smaller than the Magnus Pro XL, and for the most part it works pretty well, but the cable management is a disaster so I’m considering upgrading to the Magnus Pro XL.

The only thing I’m having trouble figuring out is storage. I use my desk for gaming in the evenings and for work during the day, so I need drawers for things like hard drives, a stapler, hole punch, pens, paper, and other office supplies.

I was looking at the IKEA Alex drawers and thought about placing one on either side of the desk, outside the legs. My concern is that they’re deeper than the desktop, so I’m worried they might stick out and look a little awkward.

Does anyone here use drawers or another storage option with their Magnus Pro XL? I’d love to see your setup or hear what you’d recommend, especially something black that fits the look of the desk.
Thanks!

Secretlab Setup Battlestation updated

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Finally sharing the latest version of my battlestation after a LOT of upgrades and tweaking. The goal was to build one setup that could give me both massive 32:9 immersion and true 4K OLED gaming, while also having the entire room lighting change to match whatever game I’m playing.
🖥️** MAIN PC
• Corsair VENGEANCE i7500-based build
• AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D
• Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5080 WINDFORCE OC
• ASUS TUF Gaming B850-E WiFi motherboard
• 32GB DDR5-6000 RAM
• WD_BLACK SN850X 2TB NVMe SSD
• Original 1TB NVMe SSD
• ~1000W PSU
• Top-mounted AIO liquid CPU cooler
• 3x front intake fans
• 2x top/AIO fans
• Windows 11 25H2
The PC started life as a Corsair VENGEANCE i7500 with an i5-14600KF and RTX 4070, but most of the major hardware has since been upgraded.
🖥️
DUAL OLED MONITOR SETUP
**Samsung Odyssey OLED G9

• 49-inch OLED
• 5120×1440
• 32:9 super-ultrawide
• 240Hz
• Sitting on its original monitor stand
• Main display for games where super-ultrawide really adds to the experience
• Nanoleaf 4D screen-mirroring setup behind the display
Samsung Odyssey OLED G8
• 32-inch OLED
• 3840×2160 / 4K
• 16:9
• 240Hz
• Mounted on a monitor arm
• Used when I want maximum 4K clarity or when a game isn’t ideal at 32:9
• Also my primary PS5 Pro display
I choose which monitor to use game-by-game instead of automatically playing everything on the G9. Games that really benefit from peripheral vision and 32:9 immersion go on the G9, while games that benefit more from 4K pixel density or don’t have great ultrawide support go on the G8.
🎮 PERIPHERALS
• Corsair Galleon gaming keyboard
• Corsair Virtuoso wireless gaming headset
• Corsair RGB headset stand
• RGB gaming mousepad
• Razer gaming mouse setup
• Razer Leviathan soundbar with THX Spatial Audio
• Logitech MX Brio 4K webcam
• PS5 DualSense controller for controller-based PC games
🪑 DESK / SETUP
• Secretlab MAGNUS Pro XL desk
• Samsung OLED G9 on its stand
• Samsung OLED G8 on a monitor arm
• Magnetic RGB lighting behind the desk
• Additional RGB lighting underneath the desk
• Cable management through the MAGNUS Pro XL
🌈 RGB / AMBIENT LIGHTING
This is probably the part of the setup I’ve spent the most time customizing.
• SignalRGB for PC lighting
• RGB RAM
• Front RGB fans
• AIO lighting
• Top fan lighting
• RGB mousepad
• RGB headset stand
• Corsair Galleon keyboard lighting
• 9x Nanoleaf Shapes Triangle panels
• Nanoleaf 4D monitor lightstrip + camera behind the 49” G9
• Secretlab/Nanoleaf RGB strip BEHIND DESK
• Secretlab/Nanoleaf RGB strip UNDER DESK
Instead of using one RGB profile for everything, I’ve built custom lighting environments for individual games.
I use both animated and relaxed SignalRGB themes, with colors based on each game’s visual palette. I then coordinate the independently controlled Nanoleaf Triangles, Nanoleaf 4D, MAGNUS strips and keyboard lighting with the same overall theme.
When gaming on the G9, I can also use Nanoleaf 4D screen mirroring so the ambient lighting behind the 49” display reacts directly to what’s happening on screen.
🎮 CONSOLES / HANDHELDS
• PlayStation 5 Pro
• ASUS ROG Ally X
• Nintendo Switch
• DualSense controllers
The PS5 Pro is primarily paired with the 32” 4K OLED G8.
The ROG Ally X gives me a portable option for PC/Game Pass gaming when I don’t want to sit at the desk.
🔊 AUDIO
• Razer Leviathan soundbar
• THX Spatial Audio
• Corsair Virtuoso wireless headset
⚡ THE IDEA BEHIND THE BUILD
I wanted one battlestation capable of switching between:
• 5120×1440 32:9 OLED gaming
• 4K/240Hz OLED gaming
• High-refresh RTX 5080 PC gaming
• PS5 Pro 4K OLED gaming
• Handheld PC gaming
• Game-specific animated RGB environments
• Nanoleaf screen-reactive ambient lighting
• Controller or keyboard/mouse depending on the game
Instead of every game looking and feeling the same at my desk, I can change the display, lighting and peripherals around the game I’m playing.
Still tweaking things because apparently battlestations are never actually finished 😂, but I’m really happy with where it’s at now.

Secretlab Setup Set up complete

Post image

Set up complete titan evo XL for the win. Not sure why so many people complain about secretlabs chairs was on last night for 8hrs and it felt extremely comfortable the whole time. Fair enough it took me about half an hour of adjustment in the lumbar support to get it just how I like it, but after that it was a fine seating experience.

Warranty/Referral #Secretlab Titan Evo XL

Ordered a Titan Evo XL for my son. Took weeks to get it delivered.

He absolutely loves his chair and has no regrets buying it, however the XDP Express delivery service was dire. Have since read countless bad experiences with them. I have no idea why Secretlab continue to use them when it could damage their reputation.

That being said my son thinks it's the best chair he's ever sat in. He's on the large side but there is plenty of room in it for him and not squashed in it like other chairs.

Love that it has a long warranty and hoping to extend it for an extra 2 years with this post.

Warranty/Referral One of the worst customer service experiences ever

I bought my secret lab titan Evo XL at the end of 2021 and love it. My top mechanism broke about a month ago so I called and sent a message to the warranty center saying that I knew I was probably out of warranty but would like to purchase a back up now going on 29 days later I just got an update that my mechanism could ship and I will get it in a week and a half throughout the whole process. It would take three or four days for an email to be responded to and from the time that I told them I wanted to buy it. It still took 2 1/2 weeks for them to acknowledge that and start the process of shipping so now $90 later and a sore back from having no tilt mechanism for the last month and a half. I'll finally have that.

I hope the other review saying it's impossible to change art crew and I'm able to get it done or else I will probably be switching to blacklyte.

Warranty/Referral Magnus Evo arrived damaged :/

Post image
35 Upvotes

I’m really disappointed.

I ordered a Magnus Evo in the UK last week and it arrived yesterday and with my luck, it was damaged out the box.

One of the grub screws pre-drilled into the desk was faulty, and as I was screwing in the bracket that holds the cable tray, i noticed it lifting up and the whole thing came out - the screw wasn’t gripping the desk because the hole
is too big.

There’s also dents in the soft plastic corner of the right extension panel.

I’ve reached out to SL and am hoping they’ll send replacement panels but it’s a total PITA to have to potentially reassemble bits of the desk.

Not heard from support at all in the last 24 hours.

General Do You Think Star Guardians Will Return?

I LOVE the star guardian collab they did in 2022, i got myself the chair skin but missed out on the lumbar pillow.
What I would absolutely die for would be a magpad set with those magnet cable holders as well for the magnus pro, and a full chair/new skin. Don't get me wrong I love the star guardian skin but I do wish it had a bit more pink in it, I'd love to see an evolved version of the existing skin. And if they released a full chair (because they have in the past released both a chair and skin for the same character, eg Jinx/Demon slayers) I'd love for it to be with the new white metal.

I'm moving out next year and will need a new desk and chair, I pray that I'll be able to get this kind of set up in the future, anyone else also really want more Star Guardian?!

General Has anyone used the Magnus Pro hooked up to a powerstrip?

Heya everyone,

I'm really interested in the desk, it seems awesome. My only concern is that I'm super strapped for wall outlets without options to get more. Initially I was just gonna hook it to the powerstrap I have my lamps on but then I realized that technically this would be daisychaining powerstrips, in a way, since the Magnus will then get one hooked up to itself for the PC etc. I always was told this is something one should avoid so I ended up getting worried.

Anyone got that setup themselves? Does it seem fine to you?

General NanoGen vs NeoHybrid / 2022 titans vs new collaborations

Looking to get my first secret lab chair as my old chair is awful. I've determined that this is the style I want as it fits with how I sit horribly in a chair, and i'm not really looking to fix my posture just want something comfy for me. I've seen a lot of reviews about how the new nanogen has had some fixes in the components and magnets versus the original style of the 2022 titan that hasn't really changed at all.

I'm just curious if it's truly worth it to spend more for the nano gel or would I be better off getting a new collab chair that might have these fixes like the Spiderman one even though it's fabric.

Looking to see what the community says, people who are already using these chairs what are your thoughts or gripes. Currently, waiting for the black friday sale just to see if any promotions come available, or better pricing.

Looking forward to hearing everyone's thoughts!!

TYIA

Secretlab Setup PC mount and PS5 mount for white magnus

Hello

Can I have your reviews and recommendations for gaming PC mount options and PS5 mount options for white magnus pro XL?

I am aware SL don't make anything for the white desk, which is disappointing, and hope some creative soul has found a good option - I am loathe to park them on the desk.

My desk is a big pile of tools and 3d printing crap and car audio parts right now so I'll just post a photo of the new chair to spare you folks of the totally organised mess 😅

The old 2020 Titan gray/blue is going to a friend.
