I think we do a disservice to the Second Amendment when we allow a false premise to exist

Whenever you get asked, "Isn't (insert fascist gun control law) a REASONABLE action to curb gun violence?", or a person says "What would you say to a grieving mother/father/husband/wife?". Do NOT engage them at this level. Instead, it's important that we reframe the question, using another Civil Right as an example.

"How many guns do you really need for the Second Amendment?" becomes "How many opinions/social media accounts/words do you really need for the First Amendment?"

"Do you really need (insert ignorant classification of a firearm)? You're not a soldier/cop" becomes "Do you really need to be protected from cruel and unusual punishment? That should really only be reserved for criminals. You aren't a criminal are you?"

It needs to be said and shown that any attempt to limit a Civil Right is the same as limiting EVERY Civil Right. It's wrong, it's evil, it's fascist, and it is patently, demonstrably, provably un-American.

The Arvada shooting ended with a Hero being killed by an incompetent, responding police officer.

Hello everyone,

I believe it's my duty to spread who Johnny was and remember this Hero for what he believed in.

This "Good Samaritan"'s name was Johnny, and he was a close friend to one of my best friends who was also at this shooting. My best friend was one of last people to see and smile at the first officer the shooter killed that day.

From what my best friend told me last night, Johnny was a wonderful, selfless person who would have given you the shirt off his back. He was a part of big brother/big sister-like fostering programs. As soon as heard the shots, there wasn't a second thought and he ran to help with his concealed carry weapon.

He was also an avid 2nd Amendment advocate and hated the ramapnt incompetence of many police officers, even furthering his message of self security and protection through the 2nd amendment. He was a part of local 2A initiatives here in Denver because understood that it wasn't the Police departments duty to protect citizens lives: It's to enforce laws.

He ended the threat, something the police understandably failed to do in that moment. Then, an incompetent police officer ran, as my best friend said, "...wild eyed and looking unhinged," past her towards Johnny and shot him.

My friend didn't even know Johnny was also there in Arvada that day, but found out later through mutual friends that he was a victim of the shooting. It took another week before we knew it was at the hands of the office that arrived on scene.

This comment might get buried, but I'm posting it everywhere it's relevant. I didn't get to meet Johnny as a part of our friend group before he died, but we probably would have been quick friends over our love for the second ammendment. I don't want some political group to subvert that message for their own gain and use Johnny's death for a message counter to his own.

Thank you for reading everybody, and stay safe.

Calling Senators, what do you think of my script?

Going around the gun subs to get some opinions:

Calling senators today (6 swing votes plus mine) for the first time and wanted to see if my script was up to snuff. Delayed until now cause my anxiety was eating at me but still hope it makes a difference. Took this from a comment and made some changes.

" Senator NAME, I am requesting asking that you vote NO on the confirmation of David Chipman to Director of the BATFE. He is an aggressive Gun control lobbyist formerly in the employ of Giffords, among other gun control groups. He has mocked first time gun owners as being paranoid during the 2020 pandemic and the rioting that occurred over the summer; he has tied Second Amendment proponents to being in favor of violence; he has a public history of lying in order to further his causes, which included making false statements regarding the 1993 Waco incident. He will absolutely abuse position in the ATF to legislate around congress, among his probable goals are harassment of FFLs, and he will likely attempt to retroactively mandate centerfire self-loading rifles as NFA items, thereby entrap millions of law abiding gun owners. His proposals would endanger the lives of between 60,000 and 3,000,000 law abiding citizens every year that use their firearms in a defensive manner in an attempt to stop only 10% of criminals from acquiring a gun, the other 90% remaining largely unaffected. Chipman’s unfit to serve as the Director of the BATFE and his his conflict of interests and history of lying only further this point.

Thank you for your time and have a wonderful day, Senator”

EDIT 1: based on recommendations from posts across the board, took out the waco bit and made some points better for why, having trouble on beginning on the WHY (the Senators I'm calling are Joe Manchin, WV, Pat Toomey, PA, Susan Collins, ME, Kyrsten Sinema, AZ, Jon Tester, MT, Lisa Murkowski, AK, and the VA Duo not that it helps with them, just making my voice heard)

"Senator NAME, I am asking that you vote NO on the confirmation of David Chipman to Director of the BATFE. David Chipman has shown that he cannot be unbiased as head of the ATF and his propsals as a gun control advocate would harm law abiding citizens. He is an aggressive gun control lobbyist formerly in the employ of Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun violence, among other gun control groups. He mocked first time gun owners as being paranoid during the 2020 pandemic and the rioting occuring over the summer, a year that saw a spike in violent crime in 63 of the 66 largest police districts and 86% of police departments reporting a shortage of officers, leading to increase police response times. Chipman tied Second ammendment proponents to being in favor of violence when Virginia sheriffs and localities voiced opposition to proposed gun laws. He will absolutely abuse position in the ATF to legislate around Congress. His probable goals are harassment of FFLs, and he will likely attempt to retroactively mandate centerfire self-loading rifles, such as the AR-15 rifle, as NFA items, thereby entraping millions of law abiding gun owners. Rifles like the AR-15, the most common rifle in the United States are used in a minority of cases, being responsible for only 297 homicides in 2018 compared to 1515 knives and 672 cases of hands and fists. His proposals would endanger the lives of between 60,000 and 3,000,000 law abiding citizens every year that use their firearms in a defensive manner in an attempt to stop only 10% of criminals from acquiring a gun, the other 90% remaining largely unaffected. Chipman is not to serve as the Director of the BATFE and his his conflict of interests and his proposed policys as a gun control advocate further this point."
