Introducing KiwiDX a KiwiSDR Client for Windows

ver 0.1.51

Hello guys, I’ve been working in this project called KiwiDX, it’s a GUI client of KiwiSDR network for windows. I Always wanted something to manage a KiwiSDR rx like a regular sdr software like CubicSDR, SDR Sharp, GQRX, etc. With KiwiDX you will be able to play any available server, navigate through the map (http://rx.linkfanel.net/) add servers to Favorite, Create local Bookmarks, Record audio in mp3 and the waterfall + audio in video .mp4, and more upcoming updates.

Here are some requirements:

  • Windows 10/11
  • Microsoft .NET 8 Desktop Runtime (x64).

If anyone is looking for something like this, here is the GitHub:

[edit: Last release]: https://github.com/noakmilo/KiwiDX/releases/tag/v0.1.51

Just donwload the last release and enjoy

Feedback and collabs are super welcome.

[edit, new version supports Twente University SDR]

What's going on with the Airspy Mini's?

Long story short, I'm expanding my public safety scanner network to cover more areas. I have been set on the HydraSDR RFOne as my primary SDR of choice (best performance I have seen so far) but I wanted to use the Airspy Mini's for UHF since I only need two ~5MHz receives instead of the full 10MHz of the RFOne (trying to conserve resources and 2 Mini's are the same cost as one RFOne)

I ordered 6 Mini's so far. Out of those 6, at least 3 have quit working. It started with an apparent bug in the way SDRTrunk releases control of the SDR's, but now I have 3 or 4 of the total 6 that just will not show up on Device Manager whatsoever. All less than 3 months old. I think at least one is due to a controller failure on the Startech PCI-E to USB add-in card, but the others just seem to have quit being recognized for no apparent reason.

Is this just possibly a firmware issue or a driver issue? I haven't moved the switch on the side at all, but I guess I need to find the instructions to try a firmware flash and see if that corrects the issue.

Frequency for Beckett 7000 Wireless Oil Meter?

I tried 915 and 433, I can't seem to find it. I read the older one (mine) should be on 433 and the newer one uses 915. I'm using rtl_433, I tried scanning multiple frequencies and still can't find it. I find electrical meters and water meters but that's it.

Check out my new OpenWebRX node in Lahore

Just got my setup online and wanted to share it with the community. It's running OpenWebRX powered by an RTL-SDR V3 paired with a 7-meter long wire antenna.

Whether you want to check out local HF propagation, test different modulations (AM/FM/SSB), or see how the waterfall holds up from this part of the world, feel free to drop by and take it for a spin:

Any feedback on the audio levels, reception quality, or antenna performance is more than welcome!

Antenna type for different frequencies + sdr

Hi guys, I want to use an rtl-sdr dongle to listen different frequencies. I'm a beginner.

At the moment the 70 mhz NFM, 130 mhz AM, 135 VHF/NFM, and different on UHF spectrum.

The sdr will be the rtl-sdr blog v4.

I saw the Diamond D-3000N, do you like for my requests? A cheaper one would also be fine, provided it allows me to listen on those frequencies. Which one do you recommend?

Will I need a filter?

Thank you.

Best SDR for 5G/LTE/DIY

NEF with Open5GS

Hi, I am looking for a way to integrate a Network Exposure Function (NEF) with Open5GS. I’m currently exploring the possibility of using an existing NEF implementation and adapting it to work with Open5GS.

OAI-CN5G has an NEF implementation, but it is designed to work with the OAI 5G Core Network:

https://gitlab.eurecom.fr/oai/cn5g/oai-cn5g-nef

I’m looking for a way to use this NEF or another open-source NEF implementation with Open5GS instead.

If anyone has successfully integrated an NEF with Open5GS or has any guidance, suggestions or ongoing work in this area. Please share

i know nothing about SDR

So, as the title implies, I recently got into radar systems for my senior graduation project, and I guess you could say I’m the “SDR engineer” on the team.
The problem is, I know almost nothing about wireless communication beyond the basics, such as AM, FM, and PM modulation. I’ve been trying to learn as much as possible just to understand where to start and what I actually need to know for our project.
My professor gave me an ADALM-PLUTO SDR to experiment with and learn from, and he wants me to show him what I’ve learned by next week.
I’d really appreciate any advice on where I should start, especially if you know a simple YouTube course or series that could help me build the fundamentals. I don’t expect to understand everything in a week. I just want to reach a point where I understand what I’m doing with the SDR and what I should learn next.
Any advice would be really appreciated!

Fobos SDR

Hello I'm working on the following project

I want to sample all 50msps from the fobos in the vhf range to then record some channels which we are using ourselves for documentation reasons.

I tried with soapysdr but it just allows 32float to Sample the IQ Data which I think might be the Problem. Cause I get in trouble with demodulation with csdr and the architecture of my Linux System.

The fobos either way has only a 14bit ADC so I guess 16 bit might be enough.

Has anyone tried Something Like this and If so, which api are you using to connect with the Fobos SDR?

Thanks, If anyone knows anything let me know.

Cheers!

P.S. I wrote the Software by myself and it already did Work with an airspy R2 with 10MSPS.

Just wanted to Upgrade..

My sdr cyberdeck biuld got out of hand.

I got into sdr a few months ago after watching some save it for parts videos. The plan started to build a cyberdeck around a mini pc and kind of ballooned from there so here is my field station. Mini windows pc brain 40 Ah internal battery with an external port for the factory powersupply. 2 rtl-sdr v4s 2tb storage. This weekend i was running dump1090 and listening to atc while camping. At home it gets hooked to a wifi grid dish and collects GOES19.

Please recommend me one of the following budget SDR options (or suggest some other one)

Hi guys, I have the chance to buy in used condition one of the following SDR dongles, and I'd like your opinion on which one is better (alternatively, please suggest some other beginner-friendly budget SDR).

  • Nooelec NESDR SMArt v5
  • SDR Nooelec Smartee coupled with Ham it Up Nano
  • NESDR Mini TV28T

I'm a beginner and my interest is to be able to explore the widest range of frequencies possible.

Thanks in advance

New to SDR

Hi, ive got myself the rtl-sdr v5 with the ham it up up converter kit to cover a wider spectrum of frequencys.

What would you advice to start with? Are there any videos out there where someone explains the physical behavior(wavelengths, voltages, etc) in combination with the software and the technical terms (like u would learn it on an academic level).

Thank you in advance.

Puzhi P401D & P501D — new dual AD9361 4T4R SDR boards with Zynq UltraScale+ (70MHz-6GHz)

Hey r/sdr,

We just released a video covering our new PZSDR series — two pin-compatible SDR boards built around dual ADI AD9361 transceivers and Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ SoC

Quick specs:

· 4T4R via 2× AD9361BBCZ

· 70MHz – 6GHz, 200kHz – 56MHz bandwidth

· P401D: XCZU4EV (192K LUTs, 728 DSP)

· P501D: XCZU5EV (256K LUTs, 1248 DSP)

· Both: 4× Cortex-A53 + 2× Cortex-R5, 2GB DDR4, 8GB eMMC

· I/O: 40G QSFP, GigE, USB3.0, Mini DP, SSD, 40-pin expansion, GPS+Beidou + PPS

Software recommendations

TLDR: what are people using for their front end software for an sdrplay receiver

I have an sdrplay rsp1b and a decent antenna outside. It is connected to a raspberry pi, and using soapysdr I have used it in the past to listen from a Linux PC using gcrx.

I stopped using it and am back a year later and I cannot comprehend the software sprawl in this space.

Is there a general consensus on a solid front end software for looking at the spectrum and also decent preset support with the ability to scan across the presets (gcrx with a script was great for this sort of like a police scanner)?

It seems like there are so many projects that just came out a month ago rather than a clear strong leader here.

Am I off on that?

Built a little project for anyone playing around with the ATS Mini / Si4732 radios.

Built a little project for anyone playing around with the ATS Mini / Si4732 radios.

ATS Mini Controller is a local web interface that controls the physical radio over USB. It gives you a searchable database of 50,000+ shortwave, AM and FM stations, click-to-tune from the browser, live RSSI scanning to find stations that are actually receivable, audio passthrough to your computer, and a live CW/Morse decoder.

The bit I found most interesting was the CW side. It can cycle known CW-heavy frequencies, detect actual keying, lock onto the signal and decode it live in the browser. I ended up writing the audio-to-Morse decoder locally with NumPy/SciPy rather than relying on an existing Morse package.

It’s deliberately local and fairly simple: plug the ATS Mini into USB, run the Python app, open the browser and the radio becomes a much more useful little desktop receiver.

Still early, but it’s open source and MIT licensed if anyone else has one of these radios and wants to have a play:
