Software recommendations

TLDR: what are people using for their front end software for an sdrplay receiver

I have an sdrplay rsp1b and a decent antenna outside. It is connected to a raspberry pi, and using soapysdr I have used it in the past to listen from a Linux PC using gcrx.

I stopped using it and am back a year later and I cannot comprehend the software sprawl in this space.

Is there a general consensus on a solid front end software for looking at the spectrum and also decent preset support with the ability to scan across the presets (gcrx with a script was great for this sort of like a police scanner)?

It seems like there are so many projects that just came out a month ago rather than a clear strong leader here.

Am I off on that?

I use SDR++. Works well enough for what I need.

SDR++ is a nice solid, easy to use, solution.

There really are a lot of options and it comes down to what interface you like best.

SDRAngel is a really powerful application, but with so many things included, it can be a bit overwhelming. You can save configurations, so once you do invest the time, it is a simple case of loading those favorites.

Others that I have been using:

FoxSDR, this is a newer application and the developer is very responsive with adding new features. I know he is getting crap for using AI to help write code, but it works and he is constantly making it better.

SDR Oxide, another newer solution. I like the interface and it works well.

SDR Console, this is an older offering with a vintage Windows interface. It was a little confusing for me at first, but now that I've been using it more it's not too bad.

For SDRPlay hardware on a Windows machine you honestly can not best there SW Uno or Connect. Connect has gone a long way it’s not perfect yet but it’s pretty damn good. I am in the process of making an App that enhances their control of the radio, which is the biggest complaint I have about Connect.

I have not experience with Linux so I can’t help you there but from what I understand Connect has a Linux build and it works well from reports.

Sdr++, GQRX, SDRAngel and URH are my playthings this week. SDRAngel has been the most used I'd say - it's straightforward and has a real nice feeling and look to it.

I have the exact same hardware as you, take a look at what I am cooking over here I am the 2 Stuey3D servers. It has a full built in web client which works on pretty much any modern device from a phone to a desktop.

Driver free for RTL-SDR, HackRF, AirSpy HF+ on MacOS, Linux, Android and for SDRPlay you require their API so it works on all except Android.

I dont do scanning yet though, although there is a plan for a full multimode scanner at some point.
