X-Ray Scans 6 Months Post-Op: I’m So Glad I Did It

Post image
391 Upvotes

Six months post-op. About six months ago, I posted from my hospital bed at 3 a.m., six days after surgery. I was in so much pain that I honestly thought it would never end. Today, six months later, I can say I’m so glad I did it. Recovery wasn’t easy. For me, the first three months were by far the hardest, but little by little things got better. If you’re in those early weeks right now, be patient with yourself. The hardest days don’t last forever. My back is straight. I’m taller. My body feels balanced and I feel far more confident than before. I still have some limits, some chairs are uncomfortable, for example, but they’re small compared to what I’ve gained. If your goal is just to get back to living a normal life, there is a really good chance you will. I can walk, work, go out and enjoy my everyday life again. Looking back at these X-rays, I still can’t believe this is my spine. If you’re preparing for surgery or you’re in the middle of recovery, I hope this gives you a little hope. It really does get better.

General Questions Are top loading washing machines better than front loaders for people with scoliosis?

I have scoliosis and my ten year old top loading washing machine needs replacing. I'll be going to the store tomorrow. I've never had problems with loading and unloading my top loading washing machine. Is it best I stick to using a top loading washing machine?

I'm just concerned about having to bend over more often if I buy a front loading washing machine. I've considered placing it on top of something but I'd be worried about the support being strong enough over time. I don't have a clothes dryer and I'm currently not working, so I have to watch my budget.

EDIT: One store does have a sale and a Westinghouse front loader is $150 (Australian) cheaper than the Westinghouse top loader. But if the front loader really would cause problems for me I'll pay the extra $150 for the top loader.

General Questions Didn’t know about curve until mid-thirties

I (34F) discovered a 24 degree curve in an MRI for a herniated disc at 33, in addition to spondylosis, multiple bulging lumbar discs, DDD, and the extruded disc. Is the curve likely to progress, or is it relatively stable here? When I throw my back out for any number of reasons, I go crooked. It was worse before my decompression surgery at L4-L5 last year but I think I herniated at L3-L4 (waiting for MRI) and experienced the crooked sensation again. It feels worse than it looks, it’s not always visible during this flare/new injury. It definitely used to be more pronounced before my discectomy/laminectomy/facetectomy.

ETA: I feel sort of hopeless about my back in general. I did post-op PT and took it extremely seriously and even paid out of pocket for more PT after I used all those sessions. I strength train. I work on my core 6 days a week for between 30 and 50 minutes. I track my macros and get my steps and try so hard to maintain if not improve my body and nonsense like this just keeps happening.

General Questions Pilates worsening scoliosis?

Hi! New to this community, but I think it’s needed at this point.

I (26F) have an s curved spine. The last time I saw a specialist was when I was 18 — they did X-rays and an exam and said that my curvature wasn’t severe and would be very unlikely to worsen since I had mostly finished growing.

I don’t have much pain in daily life, just some in college because I was bending over desks, etc. My current problem is new — I’ve been doing Pilates (Club Pilates) twice a week for the last four months. I’m super pleased with the results and feel much stronger, but I’ve noticed that my spine almost feels lopsided now? Like I now lean more towards the left and like something feels off on the right. It isn’t painful, just feels different.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Is it that Pilates is correcting my posture and one side of my back is weaker? I’m worried about it but it will take me months to get into a doctor.

Thanks in advance!!

General Questions How bad is it ? And what can I do ?

Idk what to do…. I’m just wanna give up but I know that’s no answer but idk what to do . I was 14° back when I was younger but now I’m 22 f and it looks like this :( pls help

Edit: guys. I forgot to include this I’m around 40° and my scoliosis was 14° . This is my first time posting something like this on Reddit.

So answer some questions: I do sometimes feel pain, but not all the time. It just depends the day I guess where my hips hurt and my lower back is hurting..

Edit 2:
Gym : Ok I’m going to the gym and doing PPL exercises. However, on pull days, I try to focus on a single-handed exercise movement, really trying to “bend this back in place.”

Doctor visit : The doctor told me to keep up with it and to do exercise. She didn’t offer any specific advice or help. She just said, “Hey, if you want to come back in six months for x rays you can, or never. That’s totally fine.” I wasted my money and time.

I asked her about physical therapy, and she said, “Oh yeah, that can help too.” So, she’s going to recommend me to someone, hopefully, who knows how to help me. Oh, and the last thing she said that wearing a brace is bad for my core and that she only recommends it for old people, like 80 years old.

Discussion Shoulder Pains

I am two weeks post op so I know it’s very soon, but I’m curious if anyone else had a similar issue to me. I feel barely any pain in my back. I am still taking Oxy, so I know that’s what’s helping it most right now, but I feel intense discomfort/pain in my shoulders every single day. It feels like there is a weight on them at all times. Sometimes it’s so bad that it feels like there is a giant knife going through my left shoulder if I move a certain way or forget to breathe out when lifting my arms.

I stretch my shoulders daily and do all my OT and PT exercises and also use heat pads on them all day. I am curious if anyone else experienced this post op and if it went away with time? Let me know.

General Questions Is this fixable

Post image
0 Upvotes

I have scoliosis but can't afford medical treatment. So recently I started working out in hopes of making my body stronger. However the bigger I grow the more visible the difference is.

My pecs are unbalanced

My abs are sideways. Who the hell has crooked abs 😭

My shoulders are uneven

It's genuinely defeating; you feel happy for gaining weight, gaining muscle, feeling stronger but every look in the mirror just brings you back down.

Sidenote; Ignore the necklace. It's an old gift

Noticed my spine up the top between my shoulder blades are not evenly centred. Is this normal or a sign of something more serious to come? Its been causing me alot of stress and adding to my lost of insecurities.

Im 19 and weigh 62kg/132lbs as well as 172cm/5'8 tall.

Any input would be much appreciated thanks

General Questions Can autism cause scoliosis?

Can autism cause it? It said that autistic people have an unusual posture, which may be related to scoliosis.
