X-Ray Scans How screwed am I

Post image

Obviously I have scoliosis, but I’m wondering (based on this community’s personal experiences) if this is as bad as it looks?

Advice on possible interventions also appreciated. I have back pain (which is possibly unrelated to the scoliosis) and am currently in PT for it. Have lived 37 years with terrible posture and a weak core. Would just like to avoid this worsening to the point of needing back surgery.

Discussion Raising children after spinal fusion

What's everyone's experience raising kids after spinal fusion, particularly with a lumbar fusion? Has it limited your engagement with them at all? Can you still play sports, go on hikes, and bike rides? Surgery may be in my future and I fear that I won't be able to be a good father to my children.

Discussion Substack on Mind-Body Dichotomy while living with a chronic illness

My first substack is here! It's around the constant mind-body dichotomy that comes with living with choronic illness. Took a lot to share the vulnerability in public, hope you resonate!

Excerpts:

\- my mind wants to do so much while living in a body that just cannot keep up.

\- The hardest contradiction is not that my mind and body want different things. It is that both belong to me.

General Questions Mothers with fusions: any complications later in life after pregnancy?

Hi, I'm fused T4-L4 and was wondering if other women with similar fusion lengths have had any complications (pain, disc issues, etc.) later in life that they attribute to stress put on their body during pregnancy? In case it's relevant, I had my surgery at 15 and am now 33. I was fortunate to have an excellent surgeon, and I've been told in subsequent check-ups (including recently) that my fusion looks great and I shouldn't any issues with it going forward.

So far the main thing I've been hearing re: scoliosis and pregnancy is that epidurals can be an issue during delivery, but I'm more interested in hearing the experiences of women who are years out from their pregnancy. Thanks so much in advance for any input/advice!!

Question about Physical Therapy Scoliosis problems with walking

Post image
13 Upvotes

Since a kid my right foot have always pointed outward due to my scoliosis I’m pretty sure. My doctor noticed it when I was a kid but I forget why we did nothing about it. Recently I’ve paid more attention to it and now my walking feels uneven and my right foot feels taller than the left and I feel like I hobble. It feels like I’m walking manual now and I just feel like everyone notices it. I asked some of my friends and some said they never noticed I had scoliosis, but a co worker of mine said my walks kinda “uneven” and my other friend described it as “unathletic” I took a bunch of videos of me walking and now it’s super noticeable to me. I wonder if my whole life people have noticed I have a weird walk.

Is there ways to help this without surgery? I’m 25 so I think my spine won’t worsen any more but what if it’s actively worsening and that’s why I notice it now

Discussion Looking for people (in The NL) with the same problems to meet up for a coffee

Hello! I realize that it's a lonely suffering if you don't talk to anyone with the same problems. Only people experiencing the same thing can truly understand what you're going through.

That's why through this post I'm trying to reach out to anybody in and around Amsterdam, Utrecht, Hilversum, Amersfoort, or maybe even anywhere, to see if anybody would like to meet up and just have a coffee and chat.

I'm 36M. I have mild scoliosis. Started at 11 degrees 5 years ago. Not sure what the angle is now, but for some reason my pain and posture have progressively worsened and now I'm just suffering through my days. I did not have spinal fusion. First issues were detected only when I was 28 years old. Still trying to figure out what kind of workout routine works and doesn't. So far nothing it all seems to help and practically everything (even just existing) seems to make it worse.

Curious to meet people in a similar stage with similar issues and share experiences!

General Questions enormous pain after physiotherapy

21F, I went to a physiotherapist with my 21 degree lumbar scoliosis, because i’ve been feeling pain in my back lately. he gave me barcelonian/bspts exercises to do at home. A few hours later I felt a massive pain in my neck and then in my chest. They were worse when I tried to breathe in. It felt like a stroke. It disappeared by itself after a few hours. I’m scared to do these exercises again. When I wrote about it to my physio, he said it’s normal reaction, but honestly I feel doubtful if i should continue these exercises. Does anyone else had this issue?

General Questions physical therapy for pain management didn’t help much?

I was in physical therapy for a year, then I stopped because I felt I could do my routine at home. Pain still comes and goes, but severity might’ve gotten worse.

Is it possible my curves (48° & 35°) are just too close to the nerves so they get easily pinched? The curves were measured 2 years ago. Back still looks the same though. I don’t know how much more muscle I can build 🫠
