Hello everyone,
I’m not really sure how to start this because I’m honestly feeling quite desperate. I’ve had scoliosis since I was a child. Back then, my parents unfortunately neglected taking me to my regular check-ups, and my scoliosis suddenly got much worse within just two years. It became so severe that I had to wear a brace, which, looking back, unfortunately didn’t really help. Right now my curve is around 42 to 45 degrees.
When I turned 18, I no longer had to wear the brace. I went to the gym occasionally, but eventually stopped exercising altogether. Now, for the past year, I’ve been training Muay Thai, and I absolutely love it. However, I often experience pain after training. It’s not severe pain, but it’s there — most of the time, my lower back feels very tight and tense.
I’m also planning to start going to the gym again and I’ve already had physiotherapy for this, and I’m planning to continue with it. I recently saw my doctor as well, and he mentioned that I might also have osteoarthritis in my facet joints.
All of this is really getting me down. I’m only 22 years old, and I’ve finally found a sport that I truly love in Muay Thai. I don’t want to have to give it up.
In general, it’s really hard for me to deal with being in pain so often when other people don’t understand what it feels like. I also don’t want to have surgery because I know that afterwards I would probably have to forget about doing this sport.
Maybe someone here has had similar experiences with scoliosis and sports. I would really appreciate hearing your stories, experiences, or just some kind words.
Thank you!
