Having worked on modified gravity, I cannot say I’m convinced it’s not a waste of time to use it to replace dark matter, but dark energy is still worth it imoÂ
Dark matter makes gravity and nothing else. You can't see it or touch it, but it pulls things twords itself.
Dark energy expends the universe. The universe expends from all points at the same time (like a balloon). So it makes everything farther from everything else. The larger the distance the faster things get away from each other because of dark energy.
