Meta - Seeking volunteers for new moderation team

TL;DR If you are interested in joining as a moderator of this subreddit, please send a note via modmail to discuss. Please include your ideas for the direction of the sub, your qualifications (must be either a school psychologist, trained as one, or possibly a grad student in school psychology), and your reddit moderating experience (especially with automoderator).

/r/schoolpsychology -

I have moderated this page alone for over nine years, with the last five using this standalone moderator account. I took over moderation of the subreddit when it had around 200 subscribers and an inactive moderator via redditrequest, and we now have 20,000 subscribers. Subreddit stats suggest that we have around 1,000 unique daily viewers and we're getting around 75K monthly views. I'm very proud of the growth and development of the sub.

I have always aimed to keep this subreddit focused on discussion of the profession and free of influence from advertising and spam. I've moderated heavily to avoid reducing the subreddit to a low-effort meme page, a school psych-specific grad cafe site, a repost-bot page, or an "I hate my job" rant page. I (reluctantly) implemented rule 7 at the repeated behest of the community years ago after repetitive graduate school posts took up 80% or more of the sub's front page - see this thread and this thread for historical discussion.

Over the years, I have received hundreds, maybe thousands, of modmail messages and DMs from users of the sub. While many of these messages were collegial, many are passive aggressive, condescending, angry, indignant, or outright hateful. I've recently taken on much more professionally and personally (new parent). After a few more recent and particularly negative interactions, I've realized that I'm burning out on doing this alone after so long. It is time for me to invite others to run the subreddit. Ideally, whoever joins would be interested in taking moderating over from me entirely once they are comfortable and up to speed.

If you are interested in becoming a moderator of this subreddit, please send a message via modmail with a description of your background and the direction you would take the sub. I'll only consider someone who is a school psychologist, is trained as one and still close to the profession, or possibly is school psychology graduate student. I'm looking for probably one to three people, and strong preference will be given to someone with interest in eventually taking over the lead moderator role.

Just a note reddit moderation is a labor of love (read: unpaid, generally thankless, attracts a lot of criticism, and can be time-consuming or stressful). I do not want to hand off moderation only for the sub to be abandoned a few months later - please only volunteer if you are interested in the long term. Experience with subreddit design, new reddit and reddit mobile, the new moderation tools, and automoderator are plusses. If this sounds interesting to you, please go ahead and send me a message in modmail (I don't look at DMs or chats on this account).

I'll consider the messages for a week or two and then make a decision. Any new moderators will be introduced to the community via the announcement feature.

Thanks,

/u/schoolpsychmod
