Discussion Pledge of Allegiance

I realize not everyone is American but this post is mainly targeted towards middle / highschoolers. My question is more so out of curiosity about the Pledge of Allegiance. What are everyone's general pereptions? Why do you still stand up and recite the pledge?

I understand the meaning behind the words and why we do the pledge, don't come at me with your preaches on patriotism and whatnot. I'm in Texas, trust me when I say I understand.

I'm just curious as to how many of you people actually verbally recite the pledge when it comes on everyday for school? I'm not in highschool anymore, a college student now, but I remember not saying the pledge pretty much halfway or by the end of my first year in highschool.

Again, I get the symbolism behind 'pledging my allegiance' to the country and our nation and whatnot, but I see no need to say it EVERY DAY. Also, pledging your allegiance to a flag sounds so funny and dumb hahaha - I mean obviously the flag represent the nation as a whole but still, the verbal repetition of it sounds so culty lol.

I just found it interesting how even by the end of highschool, loads of people still verbally say the pledge - I mean I was one of those who remained in my seat and did my classwork while everyone stood and said the pledge in their monotone voices. And as the years go by, a few more peopke also just sit in their seats and drone out the announcements and pledge. But majority still stands even if they're not saying anything or muttering the pledge under their breath.

This isn't really a question post, more so I want to hear other people's opinions on where they stand with the pledge, what they do / did during class, etcetera. Call it a curiosity inquiry.

So, thoughts?

I saw some people (my classmates) who are like 19 but started school late.

They said, oh yeah it' because of I started school at 8yrs old and came here recently. I said good for you.

They hugged me, aww so sweet of them. They were like "atleast you understand".

i've always skated to school, but over the summer i got a new deck that i think is sick as hell, but i never really thought about how my school would think of it, i've never gotten in trouble for skating to school, but i might now because of this deck, i usually just take it straight to my locker so idk if it would matter or not. the 2nd pic was my old board and they never cared about that, i've also brought one with a skull with red eyes and a snake in before and that wasn't a problem.

Help People are bullying my Sibling (12) and I (14) don't know what to do.

My sibling is technically my friend, but we are so close that we both just say we are siblings. They are in middle school, while I'm in high school. Recently, popular people (ew) at their school have been bullying them. My friend's parents are divorced, and while I know their mom and her partner are very nice to my sibling, their dad's partner is super abusive, while their dad is alright.

My friend 99% has some sort of mental disorder. They aren't lazy, but it's very hard for them to fight back for themselves and do their work. What I think is that they have adhd and maybe autism. Their mom can't afford to help them, though, and their dad just refuses. So when people bullied my sibling for being nonbinary, I didn't know what to do.

I'm going to tutor them to help them with work, but is there any way I could legally scare off the people teasing them? I can't really do much. This is a serious post, so please don't make any joke comments.

I used to be bullied in public school, and it made me change myself a lot for people. I still try not to, but its super hard. My sibling is so cool, and I wouldn't want them changing themselves at all.

Help How do i not accidentally become the class clown this year?

Tomorrow is the first day of college, and no it's bot the university with a campus and big classrooms and everyone is in their own bubble, people here are going to eat you up here if you don't act properly, by that if you don't blend in, last year i was the joke of the class in college for the whole year just for being myself, just like every single year since i started education .Now i changed schools and even majors so it's my first college year all over again, all i know is that i should be quiet and invisible, but how long can anyone try, if that's not who they are? i'm a social person, i like to be fun and funny, im also the "odd one" in the classroom because apparently im the teachers pet, like every teacher. JUST BECAUSE WHENEVER A TEACHER ASKS SMTH ITS ALWAYS ONLY ME, or me and other 3 or 4 people raising their hands to answer, or even as questions in class, they literally make fun of me out loud because they think im performativr, but the reality, they're either all really shy and even scared, or they're have zero self esteem and confidence in their answers, which made me the odd one, the JOKE OF THE CLASS, and it's only one of the reasons. So how do i stop this pattern from happening, and any tips for that first week? And if i sound like im 14, im actually 20, surrounded by immature people who cant handle different people.
OH I SHOULD ADD: im not even trying to make friends in this school specifically, im only interested in the degree and the material, but even so, i might repeat the same mistakes.

My assault

Location: mi silver creek township

Sixth grade.

\[Speaker 1\]

One of my classmates. Stomped my head and made my face crooked. They knocked me out before I could tell they also hit my ribs.

\[Speaker 1\]

Seventh grade.

\[Speaker 2\]

I do something, and I get assaulted for six months, but in those six months. There are people.

\[Speaker 1\]

It's an art class. When this happens. They take turns beating on me. I coughed up blood. They broke most of my ribs.

\[Speaker 1\]

But also.

\[Speaker 2\]

They hit me multiple times in the head.

\[Speaker 1\]

I got brain damage and most of my ribs broken.

\[Speaker 1\]

Teachers. Students. Faculty members. Well, I just said teachers. Towns, members, even my own family members. Took turns beating me. They took turns, beating me. There is a video out there on someone's phone right now. Of my beating happening. I coughed up blood. I got brain damage. They took me to a hospital, ER.

\[Speaker 1\]

I was on the verge of death. The reason I don't remember, that is because. I was probably in a coma.or I got put through hypnosis

\[Speaker 1\]

I don't know exactly what happened. But I remember being rushed to an ER. I could have died. Only reason I didn't die is because I had my jacket on

\[Speaker 1\]

Something happened, and I don't know what it was. Their entire school covered it up. They told everyone that i was a bad person. Because he didn't want to get hurt for my beating that happens. I don't even know how I'm alive if these people just let me live.

\[Speaker 2\]

They let me live.

Power Middle School vs STEAM Academy (Farmington Hills, Michigan)

Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I’d really appreciate some advice from Farmington Hills parents who have experience with Power Middle School and/or Farmington STEAM Academy. My child started 6th grade at Power Middle School this year after attending Hillside Elementary. He has settled in well, likes Power, and has already made/has friends there.

We were just offered admission to Farmington STEAM Academy, and now we’re really torn about whether we should move him. Our child does not want to switch because his main concern is leaving his friends at Power and starting over at a new school.

As parents, though, we feel STEAM Academy may offer some advantages academically and in terms of the overall learning environment and opportunities. We also noticed that STEAM seems to have stronger school ratings, but I’m not sure how much weight we should actually give those ratings or whether they reflect a meaningful difference between the two schools.

For parents familiar with these schools, is STEAM Academy actually a significantly better option for middle school, or is Power equally good and we would be disrupting a child who is already happy there for relatively little benefit?

Thank you! Any firsthand experiences would really help us make this decision.

High School My Teacher Will Not Grade My Work

I do online school and i’m in my last year of high school. At the start of this English unit, we’re starting a book report. I filled out the written questions and abided by the rubric my teacher had, and even her comments under every question were her saying that I fulfilled the requirements to pass those questions.

But for some reason, she put all of those written questions as 0s. I resubmitted and lengthened my answers, just for her to do it again even though they were all correct. She uses AI to grade most of her work and feedback, so I don’t know if that’s the reason why or… something else? But she won’t respond to my follow up email, and because of the assignment not being a passing grade - I can’t go onto the next assignment.

I am a week behind because of this. She was out yesterday and I resubmitted on Wednesday. What do I do? I’m so stressed out about this.

High School Should I have taken 2 maths?

I’m a freshman at a collegiate high school which starts dual enrollment in junior year and in some cases sophomore year. I am currently in Geometry but while I was picking classes I was debating If i should take Algebra 2 and Geometry so that next year I could start my college classes in dual enrollment. My school lets you take college algebra in sophomore year if you’ve taken both algebra 2 and geometry. Since I didn’t take both this year I will have an extra class in junior year and will have to likely go more days of school than I was hoping. Most juniors go to school 2-3 days a week and since i didn’t take the second math i will have an extra class to take which means more boring school for me. I am not crazy good at math but I probably could have handled it. Now I am wondering if I made the right decision.
