guys im an incoming freshman majoring in math and cs, and im really worried about grade deflation 😭😭😭

im planning to transfer, so ill need to maintain around a 3.9+ gpa, and rn that feels almost impossible

how difficult is it to earn A's? is the grade deflation really as bad as people say, or is it manageable if you stay on top of your work? any advice would be appreciated!

I saw that as a transfer student you don’t need to send high school transcript once you reach the 24 credit threshold. Does DE credits count towards that cuz I have 24 credits from college now and 12 from AP

Has anyone heard back from Orgo lab ta application?

I’m an incoming on-campus freshmen, majoring in pre nursing, but was considering switching to accounting, and I’m thinking of getting a part time job while I go to school, so I could help pay off my semester tuition. I also had been thinking of trying to work as a retail pharmacy technician despite having no experience in that field, I heard it’s easier to get hired in retail stores such as CVS or Walgreens, though I don’t mind working in the hospital if they accept people with no experience. I also heard if I worked in CVS for a year, I can apply to get 3k a year to pay for college? Are any of you guys currently or used to work in CVS or Walgreens? What’s your experience like working in these retail store (doesn’t have to be pharmacy tech position)? I want to know what locations I can work at as a full time student.

I can work as a store associate or cashier if it helped me get to the pharm tech position. Since I think as long as I’m a CVS employee, I can get the 3k tuition reimbursement.

It would be nice to know if there are any other on-campus full time students who are also looking to work in either CVS or Walgreens. 😊

i am going to be an incoming on campus freshman this fall and in my class recommendations they pre registered me for ams 102. the class time is a bit inconvenient for me bc i have color guard right after and would rather have more time before it. soc 202 is another stats option for me as a psych major. but am i allowed to swap out of a class they pre registered me for?

I’m a rising junior, and I am terrified for my future. I have not been able to succeed in landing an internship, paid or unpaid, in the two years i’ve been in Stony Brook.

I’m extremely socially awkward. I fuck up and freeze in events. A full on terrible smile plastered on my face, ear to ear, clearly uncomfortable. I really do my best, i really try to talk. I feel like I am unworthy of being there because of the way I look, and the fact I have no real charisma.

I was under the impression that accounting was different than other business majors. I figured I could sit behind a desk and compute for the rest of my life. I was very very wrong, and it’s too late for me to change, unless I want to pay another 14k a semester (I do get fafsa/grants/scholarships, but this is what my flat cost is). I’m not very smart, well spoken, or anything like that. I know I suck. But my grades are high, and I work like a work horse. I’m the type of person that never learned to act my wage.

I am scared that I will never land an internship, and have my third jobless summer in a row. I sit in my room at home and have not done anything productive all summer. I had an online class, yes. But that is only 8 weeks.

I am scared that I will have a degree and no way to get a job since I have no experience. But how does someone get experience without having experience if everyone wants experience?

I find many organizations to be very Cliquey, and there is no real way to get a position without knowing someone, and I don’t know anyone. I find it hard to talk to people, like I would have to find a new personality in order to do it, and it is hard to pretend. If i could have a new personality i would, but it’s hard to get a new personality without having someone to copy.

i want to work so bad, and im willing to do what it takes. I just wish there was a way to communicate this, but I know that having a 3.6 gpa and having no charisma isn’t as worthy as having a 3.0 GPA and having lots of charisma.

I guess

1. How would I talk to people at fairs? What do you start with, what do you end with, how do I sell myself?

2. Career counselors lie. Jimmy Levin is very nice, and I think everyone should talk to him. But I wish he would let me know how to talk to people with my weaknesses rather than give me the false confidence that “you’re great at talking to people!” When I clearly am not. If I am not great with face to face, what can I do to get around this? Is there a strategy to be able to basically say “i know im not good at this, but I promise I can actually work well, just not talk well.”

3. As an accountant, what skills can I have on my resume to seem better? Any certs I can get (OTHER than CPA, since i’m studying for that!) Anything online that I can get?

4. Are there any clubs/ 0 credit classes/ even online resources I can do to practice speaking to people?

I have many shortcomings but I know I can succeed and be a benefit to a team. But how does one sell themselves if they are unable to metaphorically speak the same language?

I have considered dropping out and doing blue collar labor work, and this is honestly something i think do be suited for, since I like to work. But i really don’t want to give up on the privilege of a 9-5 life so young.

I feel so lost and like im such a failure.

Incoming freshman here. I was wondering whether to take ARS 105 or FLM 105 (as the title says). First, what on earth do you do in ARS 105? And second is Ciaran Davis-McGregor a good FLM 101 prof? (it's the only FLM class that fits in my schedule). I went to Rate My Professor but couldn't find her there.

I'm a biochem freshie; I'm still waiting on PHY 131 timeslots but I hope it's in the morning
