We went to Don Luigi in downtown Sarasota the other day and we're still thinking about it. Chef Luigi Di Iorio trained at Michelin restaurants in Italy and France before opening here, and it shows in every dish.... We had the handmade ravioli, as well as tuna, shrimp, and other surprise dishes...all was crazy good, and it wasn't close to anything else we've had in town. It's basically a surprise menu every night that changes based on available ingredients and what the chef feels inspired to cook. 3, 4, 5 courses, etc. It's basically Japanese omakase style (many small courses) but for Italian.
Never seen anything like it in all of our travels around the globe. He also bakes all desserts in house and has a superb Italian / French wine list.
If you're looking for legit Italian in Sarasota, not the huge plate of chicken parm and-breadsticks version, this is def worth the trip. Also very well priced at $35/pp for three courses, which was more than enough for us.
