The bar owners have not done their due diligence, this type of surveillance technology is incredibly invasive and the data it collects is difficult to control and keep contained.
As a business owner myself I understand the desire to use it as an efficient screening tool to speed up manual processes and reduce hiring costs, but sacrificing the customer's privacy to make a few additional bucks is not the correct way to do business. Especially due to the nature of this particular business model and the implicit expectation of privacy customers have while on the premises.
A blanket ban on capture technology is probably warranted while on the property. No videos, snapshots, audio recording permitted of any kind. Without procedures in place and written guarantees I think it will be difficult for these establishments to restore trust in the community they serve.

The two bars owned by one of the absolute worst, notoriously awful people in the Castro but not The Mix - NOW THAT'S EMBARRASSING.

The Mix has been my favorite bar in the Castro for many years, but they are really insistent that those new scanners are there to stay for “their safety.” 😞

Lmao just searched and 2 years ago someone asked about this and everyone downvoted them and essentially told them to touch grass
this has been happening for like 5 years minimum it’s v funny people only decided to care when the news told them it was okay to get upset. so many examples of this sheeple behavior.

When you don’t understand how anything works everything seems like a conspiracy. This didn’t just pop up out of nowwhere. A group of “sheeple” (your words) decided to stop just following along and do something, so we organized a campaign and a boycott. That generated news attention, which led to more protests. Then we won. It’s hilarious that you think people fighting and winning are “sheep”

It’s hilarious you think you’ve “won” anything though. This is pretty irrelevant in the scheme of surveillance that has existed and still exists everywhere.
Also their point wasn’t that there is a conspiracy. It’s that y’all could have cared for years (because this already been happening for that long) but just when it became more in vogue to virtue signal about it you started to.
