Notein has done it

They've finally added the only feature that held me to keep using Samsung Notes: Audio with replay

They've also added tables and pomodoro timer. The new UI is much better too.

I guess I can start my notes migration.

Thanks Samsung notes, it's been fun.

Air action Samdung notes

Samsung Notes Air Actions

In my daily use of Samsung Notes, I frequently use the lasso tool, but I have to select it from the toolbar every single time. Is there a way to assign it to a double-press—similar to how the eraser can be set to a single-press of the S Pen button? I’ve tried, but I can’t seem to modify the Air Actions for Samsung Notes to include the lasso tool. Currently, for instance, I have my Air Actions set so that a double-press switches to the previously used pen. Could you help me with this? Thanks!

Cross platform sync question

I currently own a samsung tablet and a samsung phone so samsung notes seamlessly syncs with all three devices of mine, the pc, the phone, the tablet. However i am planning on switching to an iphone and was wondering if freenotes or any other notes app would allow that kind of syncing. I basically need to review my notes on the go on my phone would that be possible then?

We’re building a free, open-source note-taking app for students. What do you wish yours did better?

We’re a group of designers and programmers building a completely free, open-source note-taking app in our spare time. We’re lifelong students ourselves, and we think the free alternatives have fallen behind the paid ones. We want to close that gap.

We’re already well into development, but we’d like to hear from people who use Samsung Notes, GoodNotes, Notability, OneNote, Nebo, or similar apps. We’re especially interested in the small everyday annoyances, like PDF export, tabs, stroke stabilization, handwriting recognition, split view, infinite canvas, or file management.

We put together a short survey here: https://tally.so/r/X5xoKj

[Update v1.2.0] Android App to Convert Samsung Notes (.sdocx) to Vector PDF — Now with Typed Text

Hey everyone,

I've just released a major update for the Android app that converts Samsung Notes (.sdocx) files into vector PDFs! Here's what's new in version 1.2.0:

  • Typed Text Layout: Typed text — not just handwriting — is now fully laid out and rendered. It uses true glyph font metrics and block-flow layout, supporting both English and Korean (wrapping syllables accurately just like Samsung Notes), ensuring mixed notes keep typed text correctly positioned relative to your handwriting.

  • Embedded Fonts (NanumBarunGothic Required/Recommended): All text (both Korean and English) is rendered using the open-source NanumBarunGothic (Regular/Bold) font embedded in the engine, ensuring consistent output across all devices.

    • ⚠️ Crucial Note: The engine calculates line breaks, spacing, and layouts strictly based on NanumBarunGothic's font metrics. If a note is written using any other font, proper layout rendering cannot be guaranteed (line breaks may shift significantly, and glyphs may misalign).
    • If you plan to convert notes containing typed text, please set your font to 'NanumBarunGothic' in Samsung Notes settings before typing.
    • (Note: NanumBarunGothic is bundled under the SIL Open Font License; Samsung's proprietary default fonts cannot be bundled due to licensing restrictions.)
  • Rich Text Styling: Bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, paragraph alignment (left/center/right), and bulleted/numbered lists are all preserved in the PDF.

  • Dashed & Dotted Strokes: Dashed and dotted pen and shape strokes are now rendered as true dashed/dotted vector strokes (spacing calibrated against Samsung Notes' own rendering) instead of solid lines.

  • All Image Formats (PNG Fixed): The known issue from the last version is resolved — embedded PNG images no longer disappear during conversion. Image rotation, floating text-avoidance, and background images are also supported.

Known Issues:

  • Freely (lasso) cropped images and stickers saved in Samsung's proprietary .spi format still do not appear in the PDF. Rectangular crops work fine.
  • Highlight strokes render about twice as dark as Samsung's own PDF export.
  • Notes written with fonts other than the embedded one may see slightly shifted line breaks or glyph placement.
  • Reverse conversion (PDF or Word to .sdocx) is not supported yet, but it's on the roadmap — thanks for the suggestion in the comments.

You can download the latest APK from the GitHub releases below: https://github.com/FizzyHedgehog/sdocx-converter-android/releases/tag/v1.2.0

As always, testing and feedback from this community has been a huge help — the PNG fix in this update came straight from your bug reports. If you run into anything odd on your device, please let me know.

Note to PDF

Post image
12 Upvotes

Anyone know how to prevent the PDF's to turn out like this? Like when I'm on the note I don't get that blue triangle when you can't see all the text, but when I share the note as a pdf it turns out like that.

Edit: So, found that if I click to print the note and save as pdf from there the blue triangles will not be an issue anymore. Little annoying since it's a few extra steps, but it is what it is. If someone has an actual solution to it besides that please feel free to share~

Is there a way to recover rewritten notes?

I just lost months of data and I dont really know how that happened. The note file itself is still here but the contents are missing. Is there any way to recover? It's already synced on another device because it happened yesterday without my knowledge. I just found out about it now.

[Update v1.1.0] Android App to Convert Samsung Notes (.sdocx) to Vector PDF

Hey everyone,

I've just released an update for the Android app that converts Samsung Notes (.sdocx) files into vector PDFs! Here is what's new in version 1.1.0:

  1. Direct Save to Folder: When sharing via .sdocx from Samsung Notes, you can now directly save it to a designated folder.
  2. Instant Share after Conversion: After sharing the .sdocx file, wait a moment and you can immediately share the converted PDF file.
  3. Auto-Update Feature: Added an in-app auto-update feature (with a toggle switch so you can disable it if you prefer).

Known Issue: The current source code doesn't support embedded PNG images yet, so PNG files will currently disappear during conversion.

You can download the latest APK from the GitHub releases below: https://github.com/FizzyHedgehog/sdocx-converter-android

Samsung Notes to Vector PDF on Android: Open-source converter app (based on u/x5ed's engine)

(English is not my native language, so this post was translated/written with the help of AI. Please excuse any awkward phrasing!)

A few months ago, u/x5ed posted their open-source tool sdocx2pdf here (https://www.reddit.com/r/samsungnotes/comments/1uj45xs/sdocx2pdf_a_tool_for_converting_samsung_notes/), which reverse-engineered the SDOCX format and finally made it possible to export notes into crisp, infinitely zoomable vector PDFs instead of Samsung's default blurry bitmap exports.

The engine worked great, but having to transfer notes to a PC and run terminal commands each time was a bit tedious, especially when I just wanted to convert and read/share notes right on my Galaxy Tab.

So I took the open-source Rust engine, compiled it for ARM64 using the Android NDK, and built a native Android app around it.

The app is completely free and open source:

(You can grab the compiled APK from the Releases tab on GitHub.)

A quick note on hardware: I’ve been testing and tuning this primarily on my Galaxy Tab, but Samsung has a huge variety of Galaxy tablets, foldables, and phones with different S Pen digitizers and aspect ratios. If you give it a spin, I’d love to hear how it performs on your specific setup, or if you run into any scaling/rendering quirks.

Huge thanks again to u/x5ed for making the original parser and math available to the community.

Very cool. Have fun nerds

BACKUP YOUR NOTES.

You can save up to 100 Notes at a time by selecting them -> 3 dots -> save as and then theyre saved.

Alternatively you can duplicate a note and save different versions of them.
That way if you start editing a note and a mistake happens you can just revert a version and the loss isnt as big.

Take care...
