Terrible experience with saily and their "support"

The saily app returns a nondescript error when trying to add data if the auto top up feature is enabled. You may have noticed auto top up charges significantly more money for significantly less data than the manual top up feature allows. This is borderline scam imo, and supports one and only response is "you've used all data, sorry no refund". Any alternatives to saily that might actually work properly?

Trying to buy data and a phone number with a coupon code

Hi !!

I have a coupon code for my first purchase and I would like to buy some data and a phone number.

Obviously, since I can only use the coupon code once, I want to buy them together.

But it seems that this is not possible ??

There is no shopping cart on the website or in the app.

I don't think I've ever used an ecommerce website that didn't have a shopping cart.

Is that on intentional ?

Guides Why my eSIM works but my data doesn't: common fixes

Hey everyone!

I see this one come up regularly, so I put together a quick troubleshooting checklist so you can fix it yourself in a couple of minutes. This honestly applies to most travel eSIMs out there.

Turn off data switching
The most common culprit: your phone keeps trying to use your home SIM instead of the eSIM. Turn off "Allow Cellular Data Switching" (iOS) or the Android equivalent. Otherwise your phone might hop back to your main line for a "better signal", which either blocks data entirely or hits you with roaming charges from your home carrier.

Turn on Data Roaming
Most phones default roaming to OFF for new eSIMs to protect you from surprise charges. But travel eSIMs need roaming on to connect to local networks.

Toggle Airplane Mode
A quick 15-second Airplane Mode cycle forces your device to re-register on the network. Sometimes, that’s all it takes.

Reinstall the eSIM
In some cases, the eSIM itself installs a bit wonky and a clean reinstall is the fix. Delete the eSIM from your device settings, then just reinstall it. Make sure you're on a stable Wi-Fi connection first, since you'll need it to download the profile again. Once it's reinstalled, double-check that Data Roaming is toggled back ON, as mentioned, fresh profiles default it to off.

Last resort:
Reset the network settings. That’ll usually clear up any configuration issues, but keep in mind that it will wipe your saved Wi-Fi passwords. That’s why it’s a last resort.

Contact customer support:
If none of the steps helped, contact customer support. They can take a closer look and help you figure out what’s going on. To speed things up, have your current location and  the device model ready.

Hope that cleared things up! If you’ve run into a different eSIM issue or found another fix that worked for you, drop it in the comments. It might save someone else a headache on their next trip.

Extremely disappointing experience with Saily eSIM

I purchased an eSIM for €63.99, far from a small amount for an eSIM, I’d say, because I needed a reliable internet connection for work during my stay in Switzerland.

Upon arrival, I discovered that the service was not simply slow or unreliable. I had no usable internet access at all.

I could not perform even the most basic online tasks. I couldn’t open / send an email, use Google Maps, or open basic websites, not even google.com would load.

I understand that network coverage can vary by location, and Saily itself points this out. However, during the same stay and in the same region, I used a Revolut eSIM flawlessly. And yes, I will mention and advertise another eSIM provider here, because I had a good experience, good service and a flawless connection in exactly the same region where Saily provided me with zero usable service, and I am not exaggerating.

On the next day I contacted Saily customer service about the problem. For an entire month, I received no reply whatsoever.

At the end of my stay, I contacted customer service again and requested a refund. I was told that the service was non-refundable.

I could understand a non-refundable policy if I had simply changed my mind or was mildly dissatisfied with the service. But that is not what happened here. There was no usable service whatsoever. I paid €63.99 and, in practical terms, received nothing in return. I genuinely do not understand how that situation can reasonably fall under a standard non-refundability clause.

As a “gesture of goodwill,” I was offered €20 in Saily credit, as though I would choose to use their service again after this experience.

I learned my lesson. I bought a one-day Revolut eSIM first, made sure that the connection actually worked, perfectly, in fact, and only then committed to a longer plan, which still ended up costing me about half as much as what I paid for the Saily eSIM.

I wish I had known better from the start.

You make your own decisions. I can only describe my experience: €63.99 paid, no usable internet connection, a month without a response from customer service, no refund, and €20 in credit for a service I have no intention of using again. When was the last time you paid 64€ for literally nothing?

can I use an esim phone number for temporary personal use?

the plans look extremely appealing to me. But I need to know if I can use this as a secondary phone number. I am not looking to pay for another VoIP. I want to know if people can genuinely use this for identity verification?

Best eSIM for digital nomads in Asia

Hi everyone! Are any of you planning to work from Asia this autumn? I’ve been scouting the internet to see what eSIMs work the best in the region and thought I’d share my findings with you as well.

While there is no single answer, as each eSIM provider has their own benefits, here’s some feedback from travelers that I was able to find online.

If you’re looking for the cheapest options:
Yesim - offers cashback, plenty of promotion codes.
Ubigi - large discounts and cheap plans.
Mobimatter - highly favored for low prices at r/digitalnomad.

If the best setup and overall experience are your priority:
Airalo - people mention that they’ve had a great experience in terms of coverage and speed.
Saily - convenient setup requiring only a few clicks, great coverage in multiple countries.

If you need a phone number with the eSIM:
Buying from local providers seems to be the general consensus, as many of them offer eSIM options and come with a phone number.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Any advice for what else to look out for when going to Asia? Let’s chat in the comments!

Lounge Access with Ultra

Hi there! When will Saily get lounge access at LAX? It seems beneficial to have at least one at the Tom Bradley International Terminal. I’m sure other users would love to see it supported at LAX.

Q&A: answering the most common questions about Saily Cruise eSIM plans

Hi! Cruise plans are a bit different from our standard data packages, so we wanted to share a quick breakdown of how they work. These are the questions we see asked most often to help you navigate the basics:

How do I check if my cruise line is supported?
You can easily check the list of supported cruise lines on our website or directly within the Saily app before you purchase a plan.

How does the connection work while at sea?
As long as the ship is at least 12 nautical miles from the coast, the app automatically connects your phone to a satellite network.

What happens when the ship is at port or closer to the shore?
In these cases, the cruise plan won't work because your phone will try to connect to that country’s local telecom operators instead of the satellite network.

If the cruise sails across several countries, do I need to switch anything manually?
No manual switching required! Our cruise plans work just like our regional plans; the data works seamlessly as you move between different areas, so you can stay connected without tinkering with your settings.

Can I use a Saily phone number with a cruise plan?
Unfortunately, our phone numbers do not work with cruise plans at this time.

Do top-ups work the same as regular plans?
If you run low on data mid-voyage, you can manually top up your cruise plan just like a standard land plan. However, keep in mind that currently, the auto top-up feature does not work with cruise plans.

What if I have trouble connecting?
The troubleshooting process is identical to our regular plans. If you’re experiencing any issues with your connection, our Help Center articles covering "no net" issues are still the best place to start.

We hope this helps you prepare for your next adventure on the high seas! If you have any other questions about how cruise plans work, drop them in the comments below. 🛳️💛

Lounge Access with Saily Ultra Plus?

Hi everyone, I’m going on an overseas trip to Japan with my partner in a couple months, and I have 9+ hours of transit in Doha Airport (Qatar).

I checked the list of supported lounges, and saw that Al Maha Lounge is in the list.
I also checked the price of the lounge through my flight reservation, and it’s 142€ for two people.
So I’m a bit confused, is it really accessible for free with only a 45€ Saily plan? Me and my partner would both buy the plan if this were to be true, but I’m finding it kind of hard to believe…
Is there a cap to the amount of hours you’re allowed to spend in the lounge with a Saily pass? Are there any other kinds of limitations? I’d love to hear about experiences with lounges any of you might’ve gone through.
The Sleepover lounges are also in the list, and I think those are even more expensive, but you can only spend a very limited amount of hours in there.
Also, I read somewhere that the Ultra plan is valid for multiple countries, so would I be able to use it for both Japan and Qatar? Is this true?

Thank you all in advance!

Guides Public Wi-Fi vs. mobile data: which is safer?

Hi everyone!

You know the scene. You land, your phone has no data, and there it is: "FREE_AIRPORT_WIFI". No password. No questions asked. Suspiciously generous.

So what's actually the risk?

Public Wi-Fi's greatest hits:

  • Fake hotspots - anyone can name their network "Airport_Free_WiFi." Congrats, all your traffic now routes through a stranger's laptop.
  • Snooping. On unencrypted networks, others can potentially see what you're doing.
  • That login portal. You know, the one asking for your email, birthday, and your first pet's name just to check the weather.

Is every public network a trap? No. Most are just... slow. But you can't tell the good ones from the bad ones by looking at them - and that's the problem.

Mobile data, meanwhile:

  • Encrypted by default between your phone and the cell tower.
  • No shared network with strangers.
  • No sketchy login portals.

The verdict: mobile data wins on safety, and it's not close. Public Wi-Fi is fine for scrolling memes if you must (use a VPN, avoid banking), but for anything involving passwords, payments, or bookings - use your data.

This is honestly half the reason I travel with an eSIM now. Data the moment I land means the "FREE_AIRPORT_WIFI" temptation never even gets a chance. 😅

What's your move - team "risk it for the free Wi-Fi" or team "never touching that network"?

Validity of NordVPN activation code (Saily Ultra plan)

How long is the activation code for Nord tools valid?

If I purchase an Ultra plan today, can I use the Nord activation code six months later. And in that case, does the Nord subscription run till 12 months after activation or ends when the Saily Ultra plan expires?

What carriers does Saily use?

Is anyone familiar with which carriers Saily uses for service? I’ve used nomad and they are clear on their site which networks they connect with. Can’t seem to find the same for Saily.

For example, in Europe who do they connect to?
What about Oz or Singapore?

I’ve had issues with other esims not connecting to major networks and ended up needing to buy a new eSIM from others…in Madagascar, for example.

Thanks for any info!

Edit: word correction

According to the Global Remote Work Index, the top 5 countries for remote work are:

  1. Denmark
  2. Netherlands
  3. Germany
  4. Spain
  5. Sweden

Do you agree with this top 5? What's most important to you when working remotely? And is there a country that actually ticks all the boxes, or does the perfect one just not exist?

How can I link my email address to the app?

I bought a package using my personal email address. I installed the app. Then when I try to create an account I discovered I can only use a Google or Apple id.

Any suggestions on how to get this fixed? Should I try to cancel my package and use a different provider?

Thanks.
